  1. While Torres is fine now, I don't like his stuff if/when the Brewers appear in the playoffs. Its too hittable, and in the playoffs it a huge bump if you have a back end pitcher with borderline unhittable stuff. See Papelbon, Rivera, K-Rod, Wainwright (filthy closer in 2006 post), or even Lidge. Obvoisly none of these options are available for the Brewers, but if they could find some alternative with nasty "playoff" stuff it would be a big bonus. Maybe Torres can deliver the goods, but I wouldn't think so. Gallardo could be that guy, but I would be surprised if he comes back this year yet after a late April ACL tear. I would maybe suggest Mota http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  2. It is apparent the moves made by Doug Melvin (Branyan, CC) jump started this team, and have so far cancelled out the ineptitude of one Mr. Yost. Good thing Ned has such an awesome GM, or he would look worse than Cecil Cooper does right now.
  3. I still get chills the day CC pitches for the Crew. I have to pinch myself a few times, just to know i'm not dreaming this all up.
  4. These guys are hilarious over there. Some really funny people.
  5. LaRussa on SportsCenter was priceless. Just going off on a reporter who asked Tony about the bullpen lately.
  6. Solid game for Rickie tonight. My Brewer Fever is so bad right now, I may just have to overpay for some Brewers/Cubs tickets.
  7. Santo is Madden-like moronic. "oh man, you don't look good when you don't score" "when nothin's happenin, you gotta make it happen" LOL
  8. Ask yourself that in about a week when the Cubs come to town. 2-1 Cubs I didn't realize I asked a question, but you better believe I'll be there.
  9. I can just imagine the atmosphere at Shea right now, lol.
  10. The Brewers have 'em right where they want 'em.
  11. Hey 2008 Kyle Lohse, 2006 Minnesota Twins Kyle Lohse called and wants his body back. Thief.
  12. Sounds like the making of a conspiracy. Maybe the Brewers are trying to get Dave Bush to shave his head again.
  13. The one Weeks swung at to start the game was a good pitch to hit. It seemed a little up and away to me, which is why he popped it to right.
  14. This trade reminds me of how happy I am at where the Brewers are this year, and hopefully years to follow. If I were an Astros fan, I would feel like a Pirates fan right about now.
  15. And for some strange reason, he's had awful results at MP (.209/.302/.295/.597) I am calling for a home/away platoon http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I understand how many people feel Weeks is going to play better than Durham down the stretch. And I do value OBP, which is one of the reasons I like Durham better than Weeks right now. About 60 points better. Also, I don't have a problem with taking one for the team once in a while. But the rate at which Weeks gets HBP sets off an alarm to me that his propensity to get hit (ala Fernando Vina style) only hides some of his inadequacies as a hitter.
  16. Giving an IBB to Pujols would not cost the Brewers anything, and set up the force at 2nd. Walking Pujols would have loaded the bases (already runners on 1st and 2nd), therefore putting the winning run on third. This would introduce a few more scenarios where the Cards could win without a hit (WP, BB, Balk). I was scared with Pujols at the plate, but I think pitching to him was the right call. edit: ollie beat me to it
  17. dea.12 PAs. What is that? 3 starts? Yost is supposed to consider that while filling out his lineup? I understand the 12 PA is very small, but Yost has considered samples of this size when making decisions before. Also the 12 PA is a disadvantage to Rickie starting, as he doesn't have the experience of facing Lohse that Durham does.
  18. He had a good game, but I can't call it solid. Judging from the box score it looks solid, but I watched the game in its entirety and saw too much to call it solid. His last 10 games have been decent (.263/.391/.368). But don't go back 12 games, or all that decency goes away with an 0-10 (.208/.321/.292). Durhams last 10 games (257/357/314) vs his last 12 games (310/400/476) is quite the difference as well - not including yesterday's 0-1. I am not meaning to hate on Weeks aftere pretty much winning the game for the Brewers yesterday, but vs. Lohse: Weeks - 273/333/273 (12 PA) Durham - 333/344/367 (32 PA) I would just go with experience over a player who is on a mild, mini roll right now.
  19. Ramirez is 1 for his last 25, 6K, and 2 GIDP the last 6 games. That is a horrible mini-slump at least.
  20. I thought you would like that. I didn't say the 3 run HR was completely negated. Rather I took some credit away from his game last night. Not sure if you agree, but I don't think Rickie had a solid game yesterday. A big hit? Definitely. edit: I love winning awards.
  21. To throw batters off, maybe the Maddux can teach Bush Dempster's "butterfly glove" trick he does during his delivery. Or maybe he can let out a Maria Sharapova sized grunt when delivering the ball. Or better yet, maybe he can have a laser implanted in his glove that zeros in on the batters eye as the ball is released. This would even out the Harden matchup for sure. I like the matchups for the Brewers. Especially with Zambrano going against Sheets. Should be a blast to watch.
  22. Hall and Durham. Weeks had a huge 3 run HR last night, and I give him credit for that. But I take credit away for flying out on the first pitch of the game, leaving a small village of runners in scoring position later in the game, and for not making plays when he should have made plays. I would give him the night off.
  23. Read the previous page to see the splits on Weeks and Durham. I looked a the previous 3 years splits again, just in case I thought I missed something, and I didn't. Durham has better overall splits against LHP and RHP in my opinion. Sure he doesn't get hit by as many pitches as Rickie (6 vs. 45 over the last 3 years), therefore a lower OBP. But looking at SLG and OPS I can see who I would play. As for defense, I don't see how Durham could be any worse than Weeks.
  24. The question was posed sometime during the broadcast as to whether the Brewers can make the playoffs this year. I'm not positive if it was Phillips that answered the question, but the answer was yes. While that really isn't too far of a stretch, there didn't seem to be any waffling on the answer.
  25. I still don't like it, but I can't argue with the result of test case #1. Now Suppan, earn your dough.
