  1. Long leash for a roster spot but not necessarily for the setup role. I think he and Strzelecki might flip roles sooner than later but they aren't going to replace Bush with a AAA guy any time soon.
  2. I'm not a s confident as you are about Cousins. Baseball is littered with guys who go from obscurity to great season then back to obscurity again. I hope I'm wrong because I root for guys like him but I hope we don't have to rely on him returning to form for the team to succeed. If he continues to lead the team in saves the way he's doing it now this will be a tremendous season indeed.
  3. We started out hot last season and we all know how that ended so it's kind of hard to give a realistic report. The one thing you can see right away is it's the most athletic bunch we've had in a long time. There will be hitting slumps and the freshmen will need to make adjustments as opposing teams get a book on them but the overall athleticism is noticeable. The defense could be outstanding with a pretty high floor. Pitching wise, three shutouts already tells you all you need to know. The pen has a lot of question marks but we've upgraded the power in the pen and so far so good.
  4. That assumes keeping him and letting him walk isn't an option. I could see the front office seeing that as a legitimate option even if I don't agree. I think Turang showing he can handle the job makes the chances of keeping Adames then letting him walk is less.
  5. The thing I like about him is he helps in so many different ways. It's so refreshing so see someone who can do more than one thing well while doing so few things poorly.
  6. Yes, it is cheesy. Yes, I do love it. Then again I live in Wisconsin where cheese is king.
  7. I'm happy he's back. If he wants to have a major league career it has to start now. I hope he doesn't just go to AAA and do the same as he's always done. Even if his production goes down because he's working on a new approach it's not as much of a problem as if he goes down and rakes but not change a thing.
  8. I doubt it would happen this summer after last year's Hader debacle but it sure would help get him acclimated to a starting role for next season. This is a bit of a transition season and the way the roster is filling out shows that IMHO. The roster is going to turn over in a major way next winter and it appears the team is getting the next group some experience so they're ready to hit the ground running next year. Just a guess on my part but I think we'll see several of our young guys go up and down throughout the year. They'll get enough time to get experience without losing a year of service time. It makes sense to have one or two make the opening day roster if viewed from that perspective.
  9. I actually looked it up before I posted. Just in case.😉
  10. I get why you'd have blocked out they lost to the Cardinals that year, but they lost to the Cardinals that year.
  11. AM I the only one who just doesn't care about the NCAA basketball tournament?
  12. Being the oldest he's also more likely to want a large contract as it may be his last chance to get one. Not to mention with age comes risk.
  13. I get it has to be done but it is annoying to have the house shake every morning at 8am as they tear down the old school across the street.
  14. I took an order to do a delivery to a kid in the stands at a hockey game. This is the conversation that followed. Mom: How will you know where we're sitting. ME: When I get there I'll text you so you can show me where she's sitting Mom: How will I know who you are? Me: (after a bit of a pause) I'll be the unicorn holding balloons.
  15. This falls in the category of not learning from experience. A team like ours should hardly ever sign players to long, pricey contracts. Certainly not more than one at a time. We'd have to fill the roster full of minimum wage guys just to field a team around Yelich and Adames.
  16. IIRC Turang played some center last season. They could move Anderson to right, Urias to third and have Turang play 2nd and have him backup center field. He might not be great in center but he's a gifted athlete and probably better than any of the other veterans we could put there.
  17. One of my problems with WAR is people don't use it that way. I think it's better than it used to be because the defensive metrics have improved enough to make the sample size used in WAR functional.
  18. If the batter takes to long to get set he's taking time away from the pitcher. Having the pitcher just throw the ball without the catcher, batter, and umpire knowing what's being thrown, or where it's being thrown in the case of the catcher, is a recipe for missed strike calls, passed balls, wild pitches and hit batters. Not the way to penalize the batter.
  19. Keep in mind none of these guys have billions of cash in the bank. It's based on the value of assets they hold. As many investors discovered in 2008 those values don't always fluctuate upward. Even sports franchises are subject to downward pressures.
  20. I agree the service time thing may be getting overdone. Arcia was brought up before he was truly ready IMHO and he wasn't being brought up because they needed him to compete for a playoff spot. If they were going to manipulate service time he would have been a prime candidate to keep in the minors for at least another year. I think Arcia is also a good example of what can happen if you rush a player up too fast.
  21. You could not have a better hero than Ben Sheets. Major respect for you becoming a fan during the dark years. Nobody can accuse you of being a bandwagon fan.🙂 I'm probably in the minority on this but I think Frelick is going to spend at least half the season in AAA. As has been mentioned he has some things to work on and he isn't yet on the 40 man roster. I think they'd rather keep him on an everyday schedule than have him use a 40 man roster spot to share time. I think they'll want him to be ready to play every day when he gets up here.
  22. Now we know what they planned on doing with the cash saved from the Burnes contract. Seriously though we could use another lefty in the pen, if he's healthy he's not a bad option for that price.
  23. It doesn't appear they said he was the only problem but when the best player doesn't perform up to expectations then he is going to be one of the main reasons the team didn't meet expectations. When your one of the best it comes with the territory.
  24. I think your missing the point of these hearings. They were trying to figure out how much value he provided compared to others asking for that much in arbitration not how valuable he was to the team. If for example, Lauer was the best pitcher we had he would have been responsible for more wins than any other pitcher. That wouldn't mean he's worth the same in ararbitration as Burnes.
