  1. This is exactly my thoughts as well. It just seems that some teams are destined to not trade with each other no matter how much sense it makes. In many different seasons of the past, I've felt that the Brewers and Twins were perfect trade partners, but nothing ever happens. I actually think that small market teams in opposite leagues SHOULD deal with each other. I'm hopeful that the Brewers and Rays can continue to work together to balance their rosters. It's way better than trading with the Dodgers.
  2. I've been concerned about the long-term value of all of Turang, Frelick, Mitchell and Wiemer, for many of the things MT stated in his article about Black. Each of them have some glaring concerns, IMO. I've been excited about all of them because I think the hardest "jump" prospects can make is to go from good prospect to every day MLB starter. I think most of them showed enough last year that I'm feeling they all can be serviceable starters. This makes me really happy! But the concern is that we have a whole team of merely serviceable players without any that are good starters for a playoff team. I don't see anything in the article that is saying anything different. With this said, I'm quite hopeful that at least one or two of these guys can make another jump in year 2. If Frelick turns himself into a .300 hitter? if Mitchell's power remains and SO% becomes reasonable? If Wiemer makes enough contact to blossom? If Turang can OPS .700? It would be great if Black can assuage those concerns and turn in a promising MLB debut season in '24.
  3. Vazquez, Polanco, Varland and Lee for Burnes and Ethan Small.
  4. Adames' defense is definitely very, very good, and part of his "package," of traits that teams would find appealing. His bat comes and goes, but his glovework is great. This is precisely why I'm concerned about losing him. Right now, the Brewers have him and Turang, but who backs up SS when Turang takes over? Just like when people say they want to get pitching back in a Burnes deal, I've been scouring good SS prospects, and I just don't see many that are likely both strong defensively and at least competent with the bat.
  5. When I saw his name today on trade rumors, I thought the Brewers should definitely be interested.
  6. While it won't happen, I wish Arnold would just say it... either we are running it back, or we're trading Burnes and Adames and perhaps others. Just so that I can stop flip-flopping my opinion on this, it's exhausting!
  7. IIRC, it has been suggested this number could be off by as many as 4 inches.
  8. Tristin English could be an interesting corner IF/OF. I'm intrigued by guys that have had MiLB success, (particularly in AAA), missed development due to Covid, so they are just a little old as a prospect, and probably just have a hard time getting an opportunity. Troy Johnston would be similar. They could platoon. Bring them to Spring Training, see how they do with an opportunity. (I'm not really advocating this, per se, I think I'd prefer using Black and Clarke in that fashion).
  9. Hmmm... that's very interesting. For those that watch regularly, is his 1B defense adequate?
  10. So long as they play well, win or lose, this game should give us a sense of the ceiling for this Badger team.
  11. Why do I have the feeling that Yelich at 1st would make Rowdy Tellez look like Keith Hernandez? I can't be the only one that feels this way.
  12. I know that different teams are in different circumstances, but would you be willing to part with Misiorowski for a player such as Burnes, with one year remaining? At first when I contemplated this, I thought "no way," but the development risk, even a guy like Painter or Tiedemann, is really really high. I think if I was a big-budget club I probably would think it was worth it due to the surety of value in that one season of Burnes, simply because you can compete for the best free agents, which can replace the value that prospects can provide (in terms of team control).
  13. I want to keep all of our best OFers and not trade any of them due to any perceived "logjam," and that includes Perkins, who according to Fangraphs, has 2 options remaining. Injuries, growing pains, platoon options, aging Yelich -- all of these are good reasons to keep all of them. Perhaps the idea of strengthening in other areas is a good thing to consider, but I think I'd prefer to fill those gaps (SP depth, Corner-IF) with short contract free agents and hope that Black, Clarke, Wilken, Brown Jr. can all contribute as MLB starters in a year or two.
  14. My guess is that if Haslam owned the Brewers, he'd run them just like Attanasio, and if Attanasio owned the Bucks, he'd run them just like Haslam.
  15. I'm not sure that either of those guys, in a blind study, would fit YOUR definition of "stud".
  16. It looks like his struggles against righties was what doomed Robles. In the last two seasons, Chourio had, wait for it... reverse splits.
  17. So baseball-wise, the worst-case scenario is that you have a cost-controlled $10M annual speedy CF who has a low average (.220) with power to all fields (15 HRs) and some stolen base ability. That's not too bad. I don't really think that his bust potential would be lower than this outcome regardless the fact prospects aren't guarantees. Obviously a best-case scenario would be more like Acuna, where the rest of the league envies the player and contract. I really love the 2 team options. As others have stated, that's the potential equivalent of signing the best FA for only a 2 year deal. I wonder what the buyout(s) are worth.
  18. In terms of the bowl season conversation, I've always felt they should have kept the traditional bowl system perfectly intact. Just add the playoff afterwards. But the kicker would be if you LOSE your bowl, you are OUT of the playoff. Michigan goes to Rose Bowl, loses to Washington? They are ineligible for the playoff.
  19. I think it stinks he won't play the bowl game. He makes them so much better. This will sound like sour grapes, but it's not... I don't think I'll miss him next season, and I don't think he'll make it in the pros. He's simply hurt too often. I think his lack of availability will also crush his draft stock. When he's 100% he's a stud, but he's NEVER 100%.
  20. I would love love love that trade, and I agree strongly with your point about a Burnes trade. I think that has been my hesitation with trading Burnes is due to the lack of depth in our MLB/AAA stable of pitchers, the team would not only lose their ace, but pitchers 2-5 all get bumped up a spot, and suddenly the team is trotting out Junk every five days. Woo has already had success in MLB, and to get near-ready Hancock as well would go a LONG way to stabalizing the starting pitching in the post-Burnes/Woodruff era I've also always preferred Frelick's floor to Mitchell's ceiling.
  21. I'm on the fence with this decision. I agree with those that don't like doing a deal like this for a player with no MLB experience. It makes me kind of nervous. With that said, I would be pretty excited to start the year with Chourio on the roster, and if he ends up being even an average player, I'll be excited to have him locked up for years. Of course if he ends up being an all-star, this will end up being a great decision.
  22. What is the "value" attached to trying to win the division? We all like to talk about maximizing "value," (myself included), but the whole point of this exercise is that the Brewers win a World Series. Having Corbin Burnes and Wily Adames and Devin Williams on the roster MUST improve the chances of said outcome, no? Can one quantify the value of a winning season? Perhaps THAT is the part of the equation we have a hard time with.
