  1. I'm looking around other game threads... am I the only one that thought this game was officiated really well by a couple of disciplined defenses?
  2. Max is awesome, no one has said otherwise. But he's gunna need to continue to take advantage of being the 4th defensive priority for the Badgers to keep winning these games. He's like all of those Purdue guys who are clearly down the pecking order, but end up their 2nd leading scorer. He'll be All-B1G defensive team. Is that enough credit?
  3. We, as fans, may need to either just accept that he'll be on the team at least until the deadline, or the Brewers will get back a package that we don't really like.
  4. The other thing with Burnes is that the teams that would be trading for him know that there is little hope/expectation that he would sign an extension. I see in all of these team-specific threads on Burnes that it's hard to find an acceptable trade for both sides. In the Yankees thread, for instance, even the fanbases can't find a trade that they both like.
  5. I still respect Clancy for these efforts... although if everyone did it, it wouldn't work. When was the first Brewerfan top lists? Like 2004? Toby's Top 40 or something like that? Or does it go back even further?
  6. I'm guessing Vegas is already aware of all this?
  7. I agree with the last few posts... My guess is that teams believe that, in terms of trade value, Cease>Burnes primarily due to the extra year of control. Perhaps teams are slowly ramping up to an offer for Cease, and then the losers of that auction will then turn their attention to Burnes(?)
  8. MLB made a lot of big changes to the player development schedule in recent years. I can imagine them changing things up with the off-season schedule in order to draw interest from fans. I would imagine it would have a lot to do with the NBA and NFL schedules and being able to provide headlines for media outlets (and therefore, we consumers). I think it's good to start everything immediately following the World Series, though. It prevents issues with "tampering," and other shenanigans.
  9. I think, if anything, MA would want to keep the Cubs down EVERY year. If the Cubs win in 2024, only to have the Brewers win again in '25, '26, and '27, I think he'd be fine.
  10. Oh, certainly, they are perhaps the two most important pillars of the program, so poor choice of words on my part. I just meant -- like you mentioned -- that he may look at the tradeoff with Essegian and believe it's worth it. I'm also not sold on Gard's explanation that Conner has suddenly turned into Gary Payton in practice.
  11. Gard is a smart coach. There are a lot of ways to win basketball games. It's possible that while Gard will always pay lip service to defense and practicing, that he senses that this team may win by being really good offensively and outscoring teams, and living with less than stellar defense.
  12. This might be the key question in this thread. I might say... "yes?" (Of course, 1/100 is probably a 'no,' but maybe 1/50? 1/75?). Miracles are fun. Miracles are forever. The game is about glory.
  13. I'm sure casual fans will say, "It was just Nebraska at home, who cares?" But I've seen enough... The Badgers are Final Four-good.
  14. I prefer to wait until after players do things stateside before getting too excited, but it's hard not to like the profiles of these players. Quintana, Made, and Peña all profile as "stars," rather than "regulars," (who are also valuable!). Two switch hitters with power and a guy with plus-plus speed is fun to dream on. I maintain that the comparison to Quero sounds fun, but my guess is that Corobo is a defense-first catcher from Venezuela... and that's where the comparison ends. I'd love to be wrong, and I LOVE defense-first catchers, so I'll still be watching.
  15. Every single rotation player has had one or two signature moments this game. And what I continue to marvel at, is that they STILL have lots of room to improve.
  16. They really do. Just no consistency.
  17. As hypothetical trades go, I like this one.
  18. I agree with this. I have this feeling like some team will give him a four year deal with an opt-out.
  19. Just a note to say that teams can't MAKE a guy sign in January. Lots of players wait to sign because their agents recommend waiting for bigger and better contracts/situations. For all we know, the Brewers currently have the best offer on the table for any number of guys, but those guys are hoping some other team offers a bigger deal, or another team is closer to family, or closer to the beach, or the nightclubs. It bothers me when people act like these players are just playing cards that one needs to purchase and take home. The players decide when to sign, not the teams.
  20. I'm not too worried about the leadership part, as Wahl, Chucky, Max and the coaching staff I believe can keep the team focused as needed. I agree about the consistency part, but I think that is coming. I think tomorrow's game will be a good test for this, as well. They are good enough to beat Nebraska by double-digits, but Nebraska has been tough at times this season. A loss or a close win, and I too, will be concerned about consistency, but I'm feeling more of a 78-65 victory, with a pretty decent lead for much of the 2nd half.
  21. I agree that the acronym is kind of silly. I was just trying to say that if Misiorowski isn't a prospect that fits your projection as a TOR arm, there must not be many (any?) prospects across all of MLB that do.
  22. If MLB can't sell hope to fans, the small-revenue teams have to move to a larger revenue-generating situation. It behooves Brewer fans to be concerned about competitive balance, because without it, they would ultimately leave because the Brewers wouldn't sell enough tickets.
  23. I think the competitive balance in baseball has been pretty good in my lifetime. I happen to believe it is better for the sport if the Yankees and the Dodgers are perennially contenders. But I'm also of the opinion that this level of competitive balance is not assured to continue. As Oxy mentioned, comparing two sports can lead to false equivalencies, but ONE of the reasons the NASL failed was due to the little teams going bankrupt trying to keep up with the New York Cosmos. One could say that was simply bad management, but if you aren't competitive, it is far more difficult to sell tickets. And in baseball, the turnstiles drive revenue more than TV contracts, at least in smaller markets. There's lots of good articles about the demise of the NASL, if you are interested, just Google them.
  24. And sure... the little guys may not care about it either, so long as they are making money. But the issue that could happen is small-revenue teams losing fan interest to the degree that they are no longer making money... THAT'S why the small-revenue clubs need to be able to at least "look" like they can compete.
  25. This won't happen in my lifetime, but I've long wondered about this before. I think I would enjoy a tiered system that included promotion/relegation like International soccer. MLB could even expand to say, 45 markets. Add Las Vegas, add Charlotte and Nashville, add two more teams to New York and LA. Bring back Montreal! With this said, this would be a bad deal for the big hitters, who end up subsidizing the sport. This is why soccer clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid are trying to form a "Super League" that would not include past performance as criteria for future participation. I didn't follow the last negotiations, but I'm presuming that the "give" on the part of MLB was higher pay/accommodations for minor leaguers and probably a raise to the minimum salaries(?) But yeah, the players couldn't care less about competitive balance, and neither do the big spenders. In the next CBA the small-revenue teams will need to stick together to avoid losing a year of team control without some other form of "competitive balancing" measures.
