Even if Parra were in the lineup.
  2. Quad's still not right enough. Would rather see Herrera in the lineup than Weeks though, he's been playing fairly well.
  3. Kintzler / Wooten are fine if one is the last reliever in the pen. Just not so good when you have only one other right-handed option in middle relief.
  4. The Beginner's Guide to Managing says he needs to make it to 100 pitches. Ron has his nose in it now, looking for any exceptions he may have missed the first 157 times he read it.
  5. Phew. Good thing we don't have Hunter Pence signs to provoke him like the Mets. Always get a kick out of his caffeine jitters batting stance - dude is moving constantly.
  6. Fiers is watching eagerly. Estrada is looking for a place to hide when the phone rings in the pen...and comes up empty.
  7. Was half expecting the South Park replacement refs style and for it to be ruled a home run. Such a coin flip it's turned out to be most times.
  8. Let's find out. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=reynoma01&year=2014&t=b 3 for 15, with 9 RBI. Must have had a homerun at some point there with men on. But yeah. Small sample size. Cool, thanks. Also 3 Sacs and 2 BB in the 20 PAs.
  9. Reynolds seems to be the worst runner on third less than two outs guy. Drives me nuts how a power guy can't just hit a fly ball.
  10. Hopefully Jimmy learns to shed the Dave Bush Big Inning. Been really good until he hits the wall.
  11. Are basketball "three goggles" our new thing this year? Hitting goggles?
  12. Todd Rosiak @Todd_Rosiak · 2h Marco Estrada and Mike Fiers being talked about for Garza's spot in the rotation. No decision made yet on Saturday. Nothing final yet...
  13. Or neither...always wondered what Ben Sheets' career numbers would have looked like if he didn't sit around biting his nails between starts / DL stints.
  14. This move would be fine if Wooten is optioned back for Fiers on Saturday - utilize the roster spot for four days. Will keep my fingers crossed until Saturday's pitcher is announced, though I have no confidence in them to make a good move of it.
  15. Considering the schedule lines up so a DL move could mean as little as two starts with off days, I go with the DL even if Garza only needs to miss one start; give him the extra rest time and let Fiers go at Wrigley and at LA. If it's one start it's all about what needs to be done to get the roster spot and it's a tough call on how to get it. Kintzler and Jeffress are needed in the pen, and Herrera has been playing well filling for Scooter and Segura. Don't really want any of them replaced for 10 days.
  16. Garza doesn't think it's as bad as the left oblique strain he had in spring training last year...which means not as bad as one that kept him out seven weeks. If Garza can't go Saturday not sure what roster move would be made to get Fiers up instead of going to Estrada. If it's a two start thing then it's the DL and off days mean Fiers could start Saturday vs. LAD and 8/14 @ CHC and the next need for a fifth starter could be delayed as long as the 26th.
  17. A sample size of 1 on some of those Canadian choices? Unless all dozen people in the Northwest Territories have some strange hatred of the Padres and the same with Nunavut and the White Sox.
  18. At least he should be ready to pitch if he's the scheduled starter...since according to RRR it takes him until the 6th to be ready out of the pen if the starter blows up in the 2nd.
  19. Don't mind pulling back when the third baseman is 10 feet away, but you're supposed to slap it over his head, not go the other way
