  1. In my opinion, it's people prospecting rookies and grading them, hoping for a gem mint PSA 10. Let's just take Juan Soto for example. Nice, young ballplayer with his whole career ahead of him. He's "on the right path" for possible enshrinement for the Hall of Fame. His rookie card was in 2018. He was arguably the 4th best rookie that year in terms of baseball card value. Acuna Jr, Ohtani, and Torres being the other 3 big ones. A Soto BASE Topps Update rookie card sold today on ebay for $60.00. A Graded PSA 10 of the same card sold today for $232.50 A Soto 2018 Topps Chrome Update (Target Exclusive) UNGRADED card sold for $170 on ebay. That's a nice investment for a $20 box of cards. A GRADED PSA 10 of the same card has sold on ebay for $687.80. That's huge. That's just Soto for example. There are plenty of others. Everyone is prospecting for the next Trout....whose PSA 10 2011 Topps Update card just sold for $4000.......... Not to mention Target, Meijer, Walgreens, Walmart, etc have special color variations (Yellow, Red, Blue, etc) of each of the base set cards in Topps. These colored variations of these rookies go for a premium. For example, a 2019 Topps Update Hiura Walgreens Yellow Border just sold for $35. His normal base card for 2019 Topps Update sells for a few bucks. My best advice if your looking to get some cards for your kids would be to go to an actual card shop or online. I used to recommend any Topps Jumbo box as you most often get a complete set. They used to cost $100-$150 2-3+ years ago, but now cost in excess of $250.....it's just crazy.
  2. I'm sure it was partially a result of that wild card game. I believe it was actually a direct result of catching Corbin Burnes as highlighted in the Marcus Hanel interview with "Freshman Parking Lot" that Mass Haas posted on page 10 (I think) in the 2020 archived media thread. Great listen and awesome insight btw! He specifically mentions Nottingham and that game. I wonder if it's "gamekeepers" thumb or something of the sorts?
  3. He also said “Uncanny how well they read (Flaherty),” says Shildt. “To their credit, evidently." From Jeff Jones, Cardinal beat writers Twitter.
  4. Great post. Awesome topic. I loved Coop. How could you not. Totally underrated. To this day I still have a minor distaste towards Treb because he went with Brock instead of him (even though that was obviously the right choice). I've tried countless times dissecting numbers and stats trying my hardest to put him in the Hall of Fame. Every time I come to the same, hopeless conclusion that he just isn't a Hall of Famer. Love the Baines comparison, but two wrongs don't make a right. The best shot Cooper had at the Hall, in my opinion, was if Boston started him earlier. The big catch is, if he would have started putting up numbers in Boston similar to what he was going to do in Milwaukee, the Red Sox most likely do not trade him. Much less for an aging, power hitting first baseman in Scott. He possibly spends the rest of his career in Boston...has a HoF career, and this post, the memories, the hit against the Angels, and all the other Cooper fans in Milwaukee might not even exist. He obviously didn't get a fair chance in Boston and am thrilled Milwaukee gave him the opportunity to shine. Even if it was for only a "brief" time.
  5. In my opinion, Smith deserved it. He should have got in the first time. Playing for 8 different teams across both leagues hurt him. Could never hang his hat on 1 franchise. He has been passed since, but when he retired he was the all time leader in saves. Saves as a stat doesn't hold the same merit now in 2018 as it did in the 80's and 90's, but being on top of this "major" statistical category is enough for me. Baines...yikes. He was the most feared hitter in that soft, White Sox lineup of the 80's. He was the guy, when they played the Brewers, you would say to yourself "Crap. Baines is up." Jim had some great points looking at his career numbers but reilly said it best, "Really good player. NOT a hall of fame player." I'm also a little skeptical of anyone on those Baltimore Oriole teams of the early 90's in regards to enhancements.
  6. This made me laugh...hard! Just another reason why Joe Maddon is a complete whiner, crybaby, and hypocrite. https://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news/media/Cubs-Joe-Maddon-on-Friday-s-rainout-We-1335915.php I had to watch it multiple times to believe he was actually saying what he did.
  7. ^^^This.^^^ If they say he tweaked something, even if he didn't, majority of the fans would completely understand. This was all brought on by Counsell by initially saying it was a scheduled day off (at least that's what I'm understanding was the initial report).
  8. Awesome card collecting ideas guys. I have monster boxes of Brewers cards that I have doubles, triples, hundereds of. Over 40,000 (not a typo). Many are junk wax era, but some rarer, older, newer stuff. If anyone is looking for a particular card, let me know. I'd be happy to take look and see if I can help. Otherwise yes, COMC.com is the second greatest site ever. I frequent it weekly.
  9. Excellent post. I log on daily but this right here is why I don't bother posting much. This is also why Louis is one of my favorite reads. Always very well thought out posts. No disrespect intended but if you don't post much because you don't find the board to be polite enough, I'd hate to imagine what you think of the rest of the Internet. I've posted on many Brewer boards (ok, like 5) over the years, and this one is by far the most heavily moderated and least confrontational. Precisely why I still own a flip phone...

  11. Great photo! Some of those guys really get into this. Hader and Davies are hilarious. Who's the Joker? Chase Anderson? He's the only player with the the team that I can't pick out. Also, nice to see Domingo in what appears to be a wrap around his wrist and not a full-blown cast or something.
  12. Forgive me if this was brought up before, I did my best to read all 14 pages of this thread, but must admit I skimmed thru a few. Is it at all possible that there was an imminent trade or a trade that fell apart? As others have said, the timing of Brinson's exit from CS is beyond bizarre. I feel that this situation was butchered badly.
  13. This is definitely another option. Whether he deserves it or not, I'd be a bit surprised if they just jettisoned Bandy at this time. I still think there is a way that all 3 can coexist on this roster. I'd rather see Vogt being the guy getting late game pinch hitting opportunities and minimal at bats. He's a veteran guy who might be able to handle that role a little better than most. He was just DFA'd after making to consecutive ASGs, I think he'd embrace any role on a major league roster. Regardless of what happens, I'd rather have Vogt and Bandy on this roster than Franklin.
  14. I like the move. I might be all wet here, but one of the "few" reasons Franklin's still on this roster is that he can bat lefty and is the emergency catcher. Makes pinch hitting a catcher late in games less risky with a third, albeit risky, option. Vogt also bats lefty and can catch. Franklin now gets DFA'd. Vogt takes his spot as the handed version of Aguilar. Brinson and Espino go to AAA when Villar and Braun get back.
  15. Great question! I'd have to tip my hat to Erceg. Diaz is another decent choice. Peralta is one of your only, if not the only, option in regards to Bowman products released thus far.
  16. Mark me down in the "He's more valuable to us as a starter" camp, but did we just sign our closer? With 8 pitchers (Guerra, Davies, Garza, Anderson, Jungmann, Peralta, Nelson, and Milone) vying for 5 starting spots, I could see how Peralta as the closer/bullpen arm works. If he struggles early like last year, a move to the bullpen is a possibily. He fits "the mold" so to speak. Hard thrower, failed starter, to this point. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing it.
  17. Super long, true story short - Rob Derksen was a Brewers minor leaguer and rented Yount's house in the off season. When Robin retired he sold his house in Hales Corners to Rob. Rob called Yount numerous times telling him that next time he was in town that he had to stop over and get his MVP trophies out from under the bed. He said they had a quarter inch of dust on them. Yount didn't care much about his personal accomplishments. He cared more about winning.
  18. I realize that he only has 3 years of team control left, but am I the only one that would prefer Profar over Gallo? I'm not entirely in the "Gallo's a bust" bandwagon, but I feel Profar will be a very good ballplayer. He's only 23. Best prospect in baseball 3 years ago. Infielder, but has had a couple games in the outfield this year. This creates a complete logjam in our lineup but if it's about gathering the best talent available, is he an option? Besides, we could flip him at the deadline in the next couple years and go through this all over again!
  19. Brewers Team Store has presales of d'Arnaud and Nimmo shirtsies
  20. I'm sure they tried. The Miller trade was in the works while the Lucroy one was ongoing and the Tribe wanted Miller over our pieces.
