  1. Couple errors in the first couple of games there but this report is very encouraging. Now, dump Sogard and let it begin.
  2. Doesn’t mean you just trade them away for a pitcher that is on his last legs and might not even change our rotation much. Oh and then you lose that pitcher after the year anyways. Seems like a really dumb use of currency IMO.
  3. Giving up quality arms in their mid 20’s for an arm in his mid 30’s is the exact opposite of what we should be doing.
  4. Eh I don’t know. Loss of grit might be hard to overcome. (Shoutout to Plush)
  5. I just don't think it wise to rely on two rookies, one with zero MLB experience, one with 2 very good MLB starts (and 1 not-so-good), and a guy that isn't really throwing yet. I think the depth is somewhat smoke-and-mirrors. Anderson is pitching worse than last year, Davies has been hurt/ineffective, and we're lucky if we're getting QS out of the likes of Woodruff/Peralta/Suter/insert name here. Chacin and the re-emergence of Guerra have been bright spots in an otherwise fairly dismal rotation so far this year. They're doing enough to win, which has largely been a product of the bullpen eating 3-4 innings every single night, which has worked well so far, but that HAS to start catching up to them. I don't think we have the luxury to let a guy like Burnes adjust to the majors in the middle of a playoff race. I should clarify -- I think between Nelson, Peralta, and Burnes, our options are likely in-house long-term -- not necessarily this season. I'm ok with selling off decent prospects that are potentially part of the roster crunch anyway, for upgrades anywhere, not necessarily starters. I don't think it would be wise to sell off major assets because of not wanting to count on Peralta, Nelson, and Burnes for postseason 2018. We're not as good as the Cubs are yet, and someone like Happ doesn't change that. This could be a wild card team, but I'd rather roll with who we got and see what happens rather than invest significantly in a 1 game playoff. If you want to sell off guys out of roster crunch guys to give us a little better shot this year, sure. But this team should still be looking at the big picture. Bingo.
  6. Yeah, we made a couple key pickups this offseason. One in which we sent some quality prospects but none were from our pitching depth. I really hope that continues. I really hope we use these arms that we are bringing along. Look at what Freddy Peralta has done in just three starts. I would rather we let these young guys take the reign than to overpay for a Thor or deGrom. Let the dust settle on these arms. If we end up having too many major leaguers for that rotation, then move one. Right now, we don’t really know what they are just yet but they have shined in the minors. And he shouldn’t be using Hiura to acquire anything. Look at what that little guy in Houston has done for that franchise. Hiura could be that impactful for us. I’d hate to miss out on that. We have a real opportunity in front of us for an extended window. I really hope a good start to our season doesn’t cloud the judgement of our front office. So like I said, stay the course.
  7. Yet another opportunity to use the 10-day DL instead of Braun sitting unavailable on the bench for 7 days. ..he may play tonight. So far, hasn’t missed a game.
  8. Then who do you trade? To get any of the big guns, they are going to have to pay up. Not gonna get a stud pitcher, catcher or infielder without giving up some of our top prospects. Stay the course.
  9. My thoughts were that you’re catching a guy before he hits his prime. It wasn’t a knock on Aguilar or Thames but achieving that young controlled talent. Nice idea, but we aren't in the position to be trading away important major league talent when we are in first place. Yeah in no way do I think it happens or maybe even should with our current situation or heck, that the Pirates would even do it. But maybe this is how you keep extending that window.
  10. My thoughts were that you’re catching a guy before he hits his prime. It wasn’t a knock on Aguilar or Thames but achieving that young controlled talent.
  11. No. Because you’re already doing them a favor by taking Castro. It should lessen the sting.
  12. Thought this might be a fun thread if anyone has any good “proposals” that pop in their minds. They don’t have to be ones that you hope they do or that even really happen in the MLB but everyone has random thoughts here and there with players. Mine tonight was... Thames & Aguilar for Josh Bell Would you do it? Why, or why not?
  13. Arcia is showing signs of coming out of it. Hitting it with a bit more authority.
  14. Even with both performing near the highest end of reasonable expectations (before Thor strained a ligament in his finger) the Mets are a fourth place club both now & in future outlook within their division. At any moment deGrom's currently higher than it will ever be trade value could suffer a similar hit, so sell high since you aren't winning anything anyway. Thor has an extra year of control, is five years younger & currently hurt. Hold. Then try signing Machado, Harper in the offseason. It’s not like they don’t have the resources.
  15. He smoked two balls yesterday as well. Hope is still there for me. It’s been hard but I really want that guy to succeed. Defense is a game changer.
  16. Up until the last few at bats, he was slumping. It’s the last I’ll say of it because it’s like talking to a wall. He was in the low .200’s all of June. It’s really okay. Even the best hitters of all time go through slumps. Using RBIs is not a great stat to use sometimes FYI.
  17. Too bad he wasn’t out there playing RF for that ball. Seriously though, as long as he's got the arm for it I don't mind Thames in RF as a way of getting him and Aguilar both in. It's not like you're losing good D from the guy who started the year there. At some point if they want to jumpstart this offense they'll need to decide how much defense they're willing to sacrifice and get their best bats in there. Yeah I don’t mind it either. And if Thames is just “meh” in LF and RF, you might as well play Yelich in LF where he won a gold glove. Santana must not be sleeping well these days.
  18. Because you hit 3 in the order and Cain and Yelich are always on base. That’s how. Plus a couple of the few hits he had were dingers. That helps. It’s also great to see that even in a slump, he was able to help produce.
