  1. C- Pina 1B: Thames/Aguilar combo 2B: Villar? 3B: Shaw SS: Arcia LF: Braun CF: Phillips - Broxton/Brinson RF: Santana Out of our starters there, who CAN you move and who would replace them? I'm just not seeing a bunch of wiggle room with the starting 9 next season other than second base. And even that may not change as Villar might be given another opportunity there.
  2. Seeing a guy as the potential best trade chip in the organization for a possible high end rotation piece is not nearly the same thing as 'writing off' a player. Right on Adam. My reason to trade him has everything to do with his past history of being injured. He's never played a full season in his minor league career. He's been hurt for a good chunk of seasons the past four years in a row. To me, that is enough of a red flag that if you get a team that is drooling over him, you take their best prospects and move on with Phillips and Broxton. I like Brinson as a player and I get the high ranking. He should be a good player but the injuries really scare me for his future. Has nothing to do with writing him off.
  3. Wily Peralta elected free agency. So there's that.
  4. If we are going down that road we might as well go and sign Walker then. At least his track record shows more consistency, plays more positions, and brings us a left-handed bat.
  5. Can't Knebel just become our Mariano for the next 15 years? Is that too much to ask?
  6. Ever heard of money? It's this crazy thing that is #1 on every players list. You think he cares about playing SS that much? Don't think so. I don't think it is even possible, but it would make a ton of sense for Milwaukee. Condescending remarks don't help your stance. All MLB teams have money. And pretty much all of them have more than Milwaukee to burn if they want to buy in on a guy that had a career year at age 32. And when he comes in and puts up a line close to what Perez gives us, how great is that going to be for Milwaukee? He has a career .254 BA/.305 OBP/.716 OPS line. Last year he had a monster season posting a .930 OPS but the previous two seasons his OPS was .769 and .732. Hard pass. Especially for the money. Hard, hard pass.
  7. I don’t understand the Cozart to 2B posts? He’s not a two-bagger and he’s coming off a huge year offensively. Why would he do that for Milwaukee?
  8. Knapp is 25. He’s young and bats left handed. Both things that Pina are not.
  9. Hosmer’s career OPS vs. LHP is under .700
  10. I like Pina a lot. I just think there’s always ways to upgrade. Knapp feels like a perfect opportunity to do so if it were possible. That gives you Pina to basically split duties with Knapp.
  11. Keon Broxton's career slash line vs LHP: .251/.364/.465/.829 I think we could live with that against lefties. If we moved Brinson we could add another OF as well that maybe fits getting on base a bit more or that gives you a good at-bat later in games. Not sure who else is out there but that could be a possibility.
  12. Okay take Nola out, what can we do to just get the catcher and two-bagger.
  13. What would it take to get the following from the Phillies: -Aaron Nola -Andrew Knapp -Caesar Hernandez Does Villar, Luis Ortiz, Brinson do the trick or does more have to be included? Those three solve much of our issues. Pina can be a guy that starts 2 days a week so he stays healthier and comes in for defense. Knapp gets on base and seems to be a pretty good catcher, plus young controllable. Hernandez plays 2B pretty well and has experience around the diamond. We may lose a bit of power but he could be a good table setter. And Nola solves missing Nelson next season and also is young and controllable. Maybe I'm way off but just thought these three players are very interesting.
  14. SP: (Jimmy Nelson begins season on DL) 1. Chase Anderson 2. Zach Davies 3. Aaron Nola (*trade w/Phillies) 4. Josh Hader 5. Brandon Woodruff BP: Long- Brent Suter Long- Jeremy Jeffress Mid- Jacob Barnes Mid- Taylor Williams Setup- Pat Neshek Setup- Anthony Swarzak Closer- Corey Knebel Starters: 2B- Caesar Hernandez (*trade w/Phillies) CF- Brett Phillips LF- Ryan Braun 3B- Travis Shaw RF- Domingo Santana 1B- Eric Thames C- Andrew Knapp (*trade w/Phillies) SS- Orlando Arcia Bench: Hernan Perez- Super Utility (can't see Counsell letting him go) Many Pina- C (vs. LHP) Jesus Aguilar- 1B (All starts vs. LHP) Keon Broxton- OF (some starts vs. LHP) *Brewers package Jonathan Villar, Lewis Brinson, Luis Ortiz and another pitcher for Andrew Knapp, Caesar Hernandez and Aaron Nola of the Phillies.
  15. Ryan Braun had 99 starts last season and he played a huge chunk of that injured. Your plan would have had him at like 60 games started. And the three seasons before that he played 135, 140, and 135 games. I think KeithStone's more on track than your rhetoric. Heck, even the fact that you won't give him his 104 games that he started because for some reason you won't count the DH makes me giggle. Because those games don't count...
  16. I think next year should be a wait and see type of a year. Let's see what Hader, Woodruff, Burnes, and co have before we go sign a league average/maybe slightly better pitcher to a 3-5 year deal. We could have everything we'd ever asked for with many of the pitchers in the pipeline right now. Signing a pitcher like that just blocks those guys from the opportunity to show us. If anything we should be looking at the 1-year type of deal guys that are looking to rebound and hopefully we catch lightning in a bottle. Otherwise, let the youth do what they have been doing and that is getting people out. With the pen. A guy like Swarzak just has to be retained if the idea of Hader moving to the rotation is realistic. You just have to get people out on the back end of games. We saw too many times how that blew up on us in the first few months of the season. I'd love a Neshek - Swarzak combo in the 7th and 8th along with a mixture of Barnes and Jeffress to get us to our stud closer in Knebel. If you mix that with a long man like Suter, a ground ball guy like Hughes and a stud arm like Williams. All of a sudden you may just have something out there.
  17. I just don't know how we go into a season and say okay Brinson, you're only going to see lefties. How does that help him as a player? He'll never grow to the potential the pundits say he does. Either he has to play 120ish games, or we have to shop him around to a suiter. Because if the plan is only lefties, you'll destroy him as an overall player anyways with platooning him.
  18. Selfish people.
  19. In order to do anything to first base for next season, it would take having another team to really want Thames. I doubt they move on from him unless they can get something nice for him.
  20. Yes. I agree here. Move Brinson for prospects or possibly a pitcher and let Phillips be the main guy out in CF. Broxton can cover us as a 4th OF too. He's good enough to fill in for stretches if someone does get hurt. I doubt Perez is going anywhere so he is your defacto 4th/5th outfielder so to me, that covers us.
  21. -Which an OPS of .900 this season would have put him in the top 8 of that category for outfielders. I think we all would accept that from any of our players. -Playing 135 games puts him around the top 30 this season as well for outfielders. Again, probably acceptable to each of our standards. I just don't feel that these two stats are out of his reach quite yet. We want to cite his injuries and that he played 104 games this past season but we never want to include that it was 135, 140, 135 the three seasons before that. We also only want to use advanced stats when it fits our narrative. He was smoking the ball this season. Absolutely crushing it when he was healthy. A string of bad luck and the stat line plummeted. Could he have played better in stretches? Of course. But we definitely hold him a higher standard (and maybe we should) than we do of a lot of other ballplayers. And I've been on record saying that a lot of that stems from his past mistakes and how he handled himself and will stick by that for a lot of people that discuss Braun. He's an easy guy to dislike because of his actions five seasons ago. Either way, I just wouldn't write him off quite yet.
  22. Spending money just because you have it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. I’d rather they wait one more season, sign Machado and move Shaw to 1B at that time. If you’re going to spend, go after a premium talent.
  23. I think he plays closer to 140 games next season than the 95-100 some are trying to spin this as. I’d also say he’s closer to the .900 OPS range than the .800 range as well. Again it’s all opinion as no one knows. Some are trying to state their opinion as fact here. All I know is some people here better hope it’s closer to what I’m guessing because it will only help the Brewers wins games, he still might be able to be traded and Brinson has been more injury prone in his youth than Braun has ever been in his career. That’s downright scary.
  24. Again, Braun will be fine in the mix because Brinson can't stay healthy either. He won't be a 162 games type of a guy and probably won't even be reliable as Braun has been for most of his career. Brinson's Injuries: -26 days on the minor league DL in May 2014 -36 days in May-June 2015 -34 days between two stints in 2016 -30+ days in 2017. Brinson has played over 100 games three times (120 being the most) in six MILB seasons. If we are talking about windows to trade someone, now might be the time on Lewis Brinson as he still has that Top prospect status.
  25. I want nothing to do with the bidding war on Hosmer. We would be paying top dollar for that one because his career year, of course, comes in his contract season.
