  1. anybody know if the ticket offices will be open tomorrow (Veteran's Day)? I'm off from school tomorrow (AZ celebrates it) so I was going to try to call my ticket rep with some questions.
  2. I don't understand this statement. Based on your graph, he had a better than league average BABIP in four of the last five seasons, with 2007 being the lone year above the average. Looks like a fine #3 man in a rotation. I would expect him to have a decent WHIP and ERA. Maybe not Carpenter-good, but decent enough for our rotation.

Florida was a Disney trip in college, New York was a spring break trip to Cooperstown. That's it. If the question is "states you visited" instead of "states you spent the night in" my map fills up quickly to almost every state.
  4. is it states that you've visited or states that you've spent at least one night in (I'm assuming you mean sleep)? I'm confused because so many have "visited XX states (XX%)". I'll have to do this when I get home. Do they have this for a world map?
  5. all reasons that you issue is the number one reason that I don't play my videogames online, unless it's with someone that I know. There is absolutely no fun involved if you're playing a game in which half of the opponents (or more) are cheating.
  6. "Dang you, Creed! I've been up since Four!" Classic.
  7. So, I'm marking my calender for the 2033 season for the Tampa Bay Rays 25th Anniversary AL Champs Reunion and Throwback Fridays. As for Phillie fans, the moment they won the title tonight, there were probably at least 200 fans in the ballpark that were happy that they won but strongly disappointed that it wasn't in a sweep. And another 500 fans that were booing next year's squad as they exited the stadium gates.
  8. he just about beat Ryan Howard to the mound for the celebration. I wish they had a camera on him as he stormed out of the dugout. Congrats Geoff!
  9. my wife is working on creating a powerpoint presentation for school but every 3 or 4 minutes, the program stops responding and she has to close the application. Sometimes she gets a save or two in, sometimes she does work and it freezes up on her. It usually tends to happen when she wants to change fonts or font size (or pretty much any button on the toolbar) but sometimes happens unrelated to that. Anybody have any suggestions, short of saying "upgrade to Open Office" or something along those lines? She's using Windows XP, has 2 GB of RAM, and it's from Office 2000. There is plenty of open memory, no processes using more memory than necessary, and she's not online. She's frustrated that her project is taking probably 4 times longer than it should be and I'm totally lost on why it would be not responding at odd intervals.
  10. man, 108 days (approximately) before Pitchers and Molinas report. Bummer.
  11. I can understand using Balfour in one way only: the fact that Balfour had a day off to rest and Maddon didn't want to not have him available. So he "started" him tonight, fully rested. Right decision? Probably not. But I can understand his reasoning, even if it was illogical.
  12. how did you post the fancy smancy pic of your results? I didn't see a link to post it or maybe I did it wrong.
  13. there was a really good thread about a year or year and half ago about believing in ghosts but darned if I can't find that thread in the off-topic archives. There is still a "I think there's a ghost in my house" thread around someplace from earlier this year, I believe.
  14. darn it, hawing! I was listening to the rain delay and the debate about it on the radio on my way home tonight and was all set to post that!
  15. why don't they make 2 flags to put up with the '82 one: one says "1981 AL Post-season" and the other says "2008 Post-season"? Or make one of those all inclusive signs like Cleveland (I think?) did that said "Post-season appearances:" and then you add the years and leave plenty of room to add more years? Then, save the actual "flags" or whatever for Division titles/League titles/WS titles? Or is that too "high school-ish"?
  16. Man, another fabulous game tonight! Too bad no one is watching. The way the Rays have turned the momentum around just by using speed on the bases (not to mention some more small ball RBI ground balls--although Howard made an unbelievable play [for him] on Gross' shot down the line) and then picking Werth off 2nd with your big bats at the plate. Going to the 9th, tied at 4-4. Great game!
  17. when I first saw the sign, I wondered why a church was putting lineups on it's marquee.
  18. turning the microphone dials "off", Phylis' tires, and Jim's winning bid (and all of Darryl's lines) were the only things that had me laughing tonight. Totally meh episode, otherwise. And what's the deal with NBC's fascination with Huey Lewis and the News this season? Just about every episode of "Chuck" has had a Huey Lewis number ("Hip to be Square" and "Do You Believe in Love" that I can remember. I think they did "Power of Love" in another episode.) And then tonight's episode of "The Office." What dirt does he have on NBC that they are playing all his tunes?
  19. The only problem with this idea is, what do the teams that are knocked out of the tournament do? They can't really schedule any other games because if they win a matchup they were "supposed" to lose, a scheduled game would have to be canceled. So, do teams that lose their first round game get a week off or something? Doesn't that almost make you a "winner" in the MLB regular season (owing to getting a week off for your players to get rested, healthy, etc.)?
  20. and, again, there's Jenkins getting the screen time, fist-bumping Lidge following the contest. He's been a pretty big cheerleader this October.
  21. but Howard caught the ball in the field of play, if I remember correctly. He was against the wall, sure, but wasn't leaning into the stands. So, if a fan had interfered, it would have been an out anyways (well, likely at least, since the ump was right there on top of things). I understand what you are saying but I think it would have been called an out anyways. By the way, the reason you are the only one posting here is because there is already a thread about the post-season that has been used for all games since the Crew was eliminated, and pretty much everybody has posted there about the games. I agree that a separate World Series thread is warranted, however. link to other post-season thread.
  22. thanks for the info. I do remember seeing those valves in the basement wall now that you mentioned it. Not that I'd need it here (although, it does get below freezing on many nights in the "winter" here), but I wonder how I'd turn them off in our house since we don't have a basement and I've never seen any valves to turn off anywhere. I realize that 96% of the time in AZ, I don't need it. I'd hate for pipes to bust though and there's nothing that I could do to prevent it. I'd assume the pipes are insulated to prevent a freak freeze?
  23. how does one "turn off" their outside faucets? Keep in mind that I live in AZ and have never had to do this, nor do I remember my father doing so in Wisconsin when I was a kid. (He probably did do it, I just never saw him do it.) Since I don't know how, perhaps others do not either--just trying to offer a little public service request.
  24. I appreciate the effort that you took, katuluu
  25. I wish I could get an mp3 of the theme song from the show, but any searching I have done comes up empty. It was a pretty catchy tune (especially when you're 8-years old).
