  1. I'll probably get laughed off the board for this, but, in a way, I wouldn't mind seeing Eric Gagne coming full-circle and reclaiming the closer role in today's game and throughout the playoffs. Well, at least today. Otherwise, yes, I like the idea of McClung. He's definitely got the fastball (NOW with movement!), hammer curveball, and the confidence to do just about anything.
  2. I'm very optimistic about tomorrow but also scared to death (pessimistic, I suppose). However, I'm looking at it like this: last year, it took the penultimate game (#161) for us to achieve a "goal" of ensuring a winning season. This year, it will take us to the finale (#162) for us to achieve a "goal" of at the least tying for a playoff spot. So, that means next year should be an automatic playoff berth, right?
  3. and then we hit two fairly weak ground balls to let the Cubs out of the jam. LAME!!!!!
  4. I don't understand the claims of Ted Lilly not being that good. The guys got 180+ K's, 16 wins, an ERA slightly above 4.00, a BAA of .240 something, has a 3:1 K-BB ratio, and he's left-handed. I'd take that any day. And these aren't even his sabermetric stats.
  5. I hope there is NO laughter in your house right now.
  6. three pitches= 2 outs in top of the 8th. way to go Marlins
  7. not what I expected from Santana today. It thought he'd give up a few runs, not 7 shutout on 98 pitches and only 2 hits allowed.
  8. way to go Scott McClung!!!! FOX is so bad. ESPN is, too, though. So maybe it is just national television personalities in general.
  9. that beautiful lineup (or something like it) took 2 games in New York earlier this week. This is no cake walk, folks. On paper, sure, it looks great, but . . . that's why they play the games. Come on, Brewers! Can't believe it's still 45 minutes away. Anybody have any word on what games the Los Angeles FOX station will broadcast? The New York station is showing Yanks-Red Sox but the LA channel guide still just lists "Baseball" on the Directv Guide.
  10. I started to read the first post in this thread and was about to go balistic, "WHY IN THE HECK ARE WE MAKING A THREAD ABOUT PLAYOFF PITCHING MATCHUPS NOW?????" until I checked out the date of that post. Oops. Yeah, I would definitely say that this is the biggest series in, well, at least a very long time. Hopefully, we can have this discussion three more times this year.
  11. jeez, no wonder Hardy hurt his hand!!! Look who he's touching in picture number three (post #688)!!!!!
  12. VERY interesting article. However, it's just talk. I'd love to see Mr. Sabathia back with the team but it's going to take a lot of coin to do so. If he likes the team, the make-up of the clubhouse, and other intangibles, I guess it COULD happen. Anything's possible. Nice to read that the agent is not saying, "no stinking way" to playing in Milwaukee after this year. But, again, he's an agent and you can't believe anything they say until the ink is dry on the new contract.
  13. aw, that means no more of those funny commercials with those old guys. Sad, the Wall Street that we have now.
  14. this is probably one of the main reasons that the MLB strikeout record by Walter Johnson lasted all the way up until the mid-1980s. Of course, it doesn't explain Nolan Ryan and his K and BB records and all his innings. Maybe because he started out as a reliever?
  15. it's just my personal opinion. If the team doctors say he's good to go, great. I, on the other hand, would rather have said "no" and waited until next season when his chances of re-injuring the same knee was next to nil. I guess 30-some years of having to be pessimistic about this team will do it for you. If anybody, however, wants to give me an absolute 100% money-back guarantee that he will absolutely not re-injure that knee in 2008, I will listen with all earnestness as a Kindergartener hearing a Curious George story. If not, please allow me to be less than thrilled with the decision.
  16. but Channel 4 was also not saying, "brewerjamie" every other sentence. Nor was it saying, "brewerfan.net" every other sentence. It was an actual interview that was well done. I appreciate the scoop (not the result--I am strongly opposed to Gallardo getting the start or any appearances, for that matter), but I totally understand the displeasure others have stated in having to read "Scott Bartell" as if he is as good a reporter as Peter Gammons. By post #295 or so, we all figured out the guy's name. You could have just said "Scott" or "Mr. Bartell." Having to read "Scott Bartell" every other sentence just screams 6th grade writing assignment--and I know as I'm a teacher. BIG turn off from what is trying to get it's name out there as a reputable source in the media. Again, congrats on the scoop, but at the same time, big whoop that you were "first."
  17. Ramon Vazquez was very one-sided this year, like Hall. I'll agree, I think it was career-year-ish for him. I'd let Gamel at least go at it in Spring Training against Hall and whoever else they have (Dillon, etc.) and see what comes out. What have they got to lose, really? They played Braun and his atrocious defense for 3/4 of a season at the hot corner, so why not Gamel?
  18. if you can wait until 2009 (late 2009, I think), Directv is coming out with an HD receiver with Tivo technology, rather than their Directv brand DVR. I can't wait because that's my target date to get the whole rigamarole of HD stuff (TV, HD receiver, etc.) and replace my old stuff.
  19. BURN HIM ANYWAY!!!!! http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/images.jpg http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  20. I'm sure that a lot of it is unfamiliarity with the players and their speed. Iorg sees a ball hit to the gap and assumes that just about any runner should score so he waves them in, regardless of who it is. It's what you'd expect when the guy takes over the job with 2 weeks remaining in the season.
  21. hey, that would be me (I think). Although, if things continue as they did tonight, there is no way in you know where that Gallardo should be used. Will he be used? That's still possible, but he shouldn't be used if things stay the same. Anyways, nice knowing you, BrewCityUnit!
