  1. so, if I bid on this and won and he did put a Brewers tattoo on his ankle and cheer for the Brewers and all related to that, would I then be able to sue him for my $10k (plus interest) if I found out and had proof that at some point later in his life that he did cheer for the Cubs just a die-hard like as he was? I mean, if I'm going to invest that much coin in him to change his loyalties, I would need one heck of a guarantee that he's not going to "change his mind" once the Cubs actually do win the World Series. I like the Lions sentiments. Or the Clippers.
  2. I've been to Bank One, er Chase Field many times in my life and this year, with the new board, it is an improvement in clarity, but man, it was just too busy for me. Almost a sensory overload of information that you start reading all the stuff and the next thing you know, you've missed 2 or 3 pitches. I liked the old board better.
  3. I would venture a guess that if the Crew makes the playoffs in 2009 they'll be a little more "ready" for the experience. But it's not something you can really quantify and put statistics to. A lot of the post-season is also luck (just like the regular season) with some experience, talent, and "intangibles" thrown into the pot. The Phillies from last year were a good example. Not many of them had playoff experience in 2007. They made it and got swept out by a white-hot Rockies team. Was Colorado really that much better? I don't know--were the Dodgers that much better than the Cubs this year? But the Phillies took the bitter sweep pill and swallowed hard, came back this year, played well, made the post-season again (with grateful thanks to the Mets for the second consecutive year), and this time were able to win a series. Who knows how they'll do against the Dodgers, though? The Brewers could be in the same boat next year. Or the Brewers could be like the 2007 Indians and fall completely apart next season. Time will tell. I'll enjoy the ride regardless.
  4. yeah, this winter will definitely go a bit faster knowing that we are coming off a playoff season, will be making plenty of moves/upgrades to the team, and will likely be a top contender again heading into spring training. Can't wait for 2009! Thanks to everyone for a great 2008.
  5. I would definitely keep Suppan around as a #5 pitcher. I just wish his salary wasn't so high. The guy makes 30+ starts for 10 years in a row--that's one thing you look for in a pitcher, a guy that can go every day. Sure he has his ups and his downs and his pretty mediocre numbers, but it's a rubber arm pitcher that is good for a 5th spot in the rotation. I highly doubt that he's going anywhere as his salary will scare everyone away. I'll take him every 5th day with the occasional skipped start and pray that those are the days that the offense will go off against other teams' #5 starters.
  6. boy out number one in the 9th was pretty darn easy. Wow. See ya' next year, Cubbies.
  7. there's two and a half minutes of my life that I'll never get back.
  8. preseason statistical predictions, such as PECOTA, are something that I never ever really paid much attention to, until this year. As you pointed out, a lot of the players stats are pretty darn close. Could you find some (doesn't even have to be Brewers) that are way off, though? I guess off the top of my head I could think of Milton Bradley.
  9. of course, I could see the Rich Dubee (Phillies pitching coach) completely changing the game plan for Moyer, since he knows the Brewers will be looking to take the outside off-speed stuff to right field. Instead, Moyer will load up on the inside corner, busting off the hitters and breaking bats. Coaching (either in the dugout or here on a message board) is real simple to do but the players have to adjust themselves and stay disciplined. I'm just hoping for a good game. We're still playing more "competitive" baseball right now than the Cubs have been.
  10. not on Opening Day, no.
  11. the real question is, will it be like Opening Day and only half the crowd is inside the stadium for the player introductions? Or will they actually get away from their tailgate in time for first pitch. Seriously, Milwaukee crowds are the only one's in baseball that only half the stadium is filled at first pitch on Opening Day. But that's a discussion for April, I suppose.
  12. I'll throw a few silver linings out there this evening. 1) The Brewers bullpen did a fantastic job today 2) Gallardo looked good for the most part, even in the 3rd inning when the Phillies somehow laid off some very tough pitches. 3) It's only one game. But I'm watching the games and am just going to enjoy the ride instead of bemoaning everything. So take this one for what it's worth. 4) The Brewers put themselves in position to tie or win the game in the ninth inning against the top closer in the league. Oh, and on the road. What more can you really ask for. It reminds me a lot of how the Diamondbacks kind of got Mariano Rivera to work and work in his early outings during the 2001 World Series and although it didn't pay immediate dividends it ended up paying off in the end.
  13. I'll actually give a sincere message: I actually wish you luck. The Brewers vs. the Cubs in the NLCS would be a phenominal series. It would give the rest of the country (since the series would be on FOX) to see how big the Cubs-Brewers rivalry really is. After today's games, we both need some help to get there. If neither of us make it, we both deserve it. If both of us make it, that would be stinking awesome and an awful lotta fun. If only one of us make it, it better be the Brewers. But if it is the Cubs, good luck to you. Thanks to those of you on this site who are well-to-do Cubs fans and baseball-educated as well. I enjoy reading your posts that don't reek of smugness and attitude.
  14. well, day one was a success for this thread. I turned off the classroom computer at noon (just prior to first pitch) and stayed away from caring all afternoon. But as soon as my after-school group was over, the wife and I bolted home to watch the game. Tivo is a glorious thing. Took us less than 2 hours to watch the whole thing. Same thing is planned for tomorrow. Except for the result of the game, of course. Oh, and I almost lost it (became verklempt) while talking about waiting 26 years for today at the morning staff meeting and letting them know we didn't want to know the score or anything. I'm still kind of amazed that something as "petty" as the Brewers making the playoffs can make me almost bust out in tears in public.
  15. well, here it is, my last non-playoff post on Brewerfan.net. I won't be checking in again for another 8 hours or so. Go Brewers! May you play well and without hesitation. Go Brewerfan.net! May you cheer heartily and resist the urge to visit the vent thread. Go Me! May you have the will power to make it until you get home from work today to know anything about the game.
  16. I think I have decided to NOT watch the game at school, NOT check gameday OR Brewerfan.net (sorry, Brian) during the afternoon or anything. I'll wait until I get home. The only thing that I am going to do is put a message on the workroom white board warning that nobody better blurt out the score with me anywhere in the vicinity or tell it to their students (because you just KNOW they will blab it to me. . . .they're kids.. . . that's what they do!) under the threat of death. okay, maybe not "death" but gosh darn it all I will NOT be happy. Payback is a you-know-what and they WILL get their comeuppance.
  17. in regards to the TNT overlap question, I am 99.99% sure that they will not take the Brewers-Phillies off of TBS until the game has concluded. Dodgers-Cubs would be the game that goes to TNT if the Brewer game is not finished yet. That's what they have done in the past.
  18. What do you teach? Maybe you can make the game a "lab" session. Psychology? What effect did that high and tight fastball have on the hitter? Physical Therapy? See how a 22 year old can recover from a serious knee injury faster than older athletes Business? See how someone with resources ($$) taking chances (CC trade) can succeed, where someone who doesn't take chances will never succeed. Language? See how players fro multiple nations can all cuss out the umpire! I'm a music teacher. I would have Kindergarteners, first graders, and second graders in my afternoon classes. About the only thing that I could do would be clapping patterns with the fans or something (steady beat) or some chanting (Here we go, Brewers, Here we go!) and that would get old real quick with little ones.
  19. It's still way better than having to wait approximately 3,672 hours before the first spring training games!
  20. So, I see there are threads about Milwaukee and Madison folks getting together to watch the games. Just thought I'd ask for a little advice and get a collective feel about what others are doing on Wednesday and Thursday. If you are at work, are you going to try to watch the game/listen to the game while at work? Are you also DVRing the game to watch it later? I am in that dilemma. The game on Wed. starts around noon, local time, and I won't be getting home until 5 pm or so. I can't decide whether or not to turn on the tube in my classroom (I'm a teacher) and "watch" while I'm teaching or try to shelter myself as best as possible from the score until I get home. It's going to be tough either way. A big part of me wants to just take two half-days from school, but that's really not fair to my students or my after-school choir group that just happens to meet on Wed. and Thur. every week. What about others in this situation? Will you wait to actually be able to SEE and intently WATCH the first playoff game in 26 years until you get home? Or will it drive you nuts that you must find out NOW, even though your work productivity suffers greatly? It will be very difficult for me to teach and watch so I'm leaning toward trying to wait until I get home, but, jeez, I don't want to miss it.
  21. I'll be sitting at home here in Arizona, watching with the wife. I just Fed-Ex overnight shipped the tickets back to Wisconsin to the in-laws, who will be using the LDS and LCS tickets. I bought my plane tickets for the World Series, though. I never knew refundable plane tickets were so expensive. $1100 EACH!!!! But it will be SOOOOOOOOOO worth it if I get to use them. Oh, seats are Terrace Box 426 Row 5 Seats 11-12. (kind of a slight downgrade from the regular 20-pack seats of 421 row 6)
  22. my broker left an answering machine message to congratulate me for the Brewers making the playoffs and gave me some good ideas to think about for the next month. I'm not at liberty to discuss these, but I did think it was nice that he thought of my wife and I and had the kindness to let me know about some stuff that would be upcoming, especially when so many people are trying to get out. Plus, he's a Cubs fan, so it's doubly appreciated to hear a congratulatory message.
  23. I just got my quarterly and annual statement just last week. It wasn't pretty. I'll stick with it because, for the most part, that's what you're supposed to do. But it is very rough seeing a ton of money that you have invested over several years being wiped away in a couple of months.
  24. yep, SUN network is on 669 right now. figures. stupid DTV.
