  1. Bank One Ballpark (Chase Field) had that policy for years. The ushers at the top of each section held a sign up during pitches and plays, which stated that fans were not allowed to return to their seats until a stoppage in play. It worked really well, at least I thought. Unfortunately, they got rid of it this season. I asked one of the ushers about it when we were there for the Brewers series and she said that many fans complained, mostly about their food getting cold while they had to wait for a stoppage in play. So they got rid of it. It used to be nice, with hardly anybody getting in your way during game action. Now, it's just like any ballpark--pretty terrible with nearly constant interruptions.
  2. Most fans that are actually watching the game and paying close attention to the details (Doorman does it, I do it, many others do it) will always jump up at the crack of the bat on good solid hits like homers. Most of the rest of the section probably missed the swing and that's why they're a second (or more) late. The Doorman and other fans like him are not monkeying around with other stuff. He's watching the game intently.
  3. I think David Price has it locked up, personally. And Wieters is an animal. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Gamel won.
  4. hopefully it will be one of those situations, as wibadgers spoke of. Then, I think it would be AWESOME if, just as the Cubs begin celebrating, all the Brewers come storming out of the dugout and make their own "dogpile" right next to the Cubs guys. That would be quite a sight--something that you'd likely never see again!
  5. I'm glad to see that most of us here on this site are in the 10% side of that statistic.
  6. back in the days of "fans storming the field" the teams only cared about the field condition (and, evidently, not that much anyways.) But now, you have people looking at the potential of lawsuits and a lack of general safety and security and that's why teams have really stepped it up when it comes to on-field security. Not to mention the terrorist threats inherent. I think it would be great if the Brewers were able to do like the Tigers did a couple years back and really celebrate with the fans (high fives, champagne baths, etc.) near the stands. Besides, the grass at Miller Park is already not the greatest. The last thing they need is 10,000 people stomping all over it and tearing it apart days before the World Series.
  7. in Phoenix, they have $1 seats and they did not offer them for $1 for the World Series games. They sold for mucho dollars, too. So, I doubt that MLB will allow the Brewers to do it, either.
  8. Oh, come on now! Ya' gotta love the sportcoats! Don't taunt the sportcoats! And those caps! WOW!http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/sgt56.jpg (sorry, that's the best photo I can find)
  9. The problem with this thinking is not all students at private schools are "rich kids". I went to Luther College ('95) which is #188 on the list. Tuition now is almost double what I paid in the early nineties. But there is no way you could even come close to calling me a rich kid. I went there because that's where I wanted to go, not what I could afford, and the financial aid came to my rescue, thanks in part to myself obtaining grants and scholarships up the ying-yang. It REALLY helped that I was a good student. Sure there were a lot of rich kids there. But not all of the students are rich. Some scratch and claw their way through and pay for it with loans. Mine are paid off because I worked hard and was successful doing so. My parents didn't pay a dime. They're not rich--FAR from it (my inheritance is going to taking on their credit debt). Just because I went to a private school people assume that I'm "rich." Did I feel really out of place at times? Sure did. Many times I couldn't do much in terms of "entertainment" besides stuff that was pre-paid/free. Any spending money that I happened to have on hand was from bartending the summer before (once it ran out, I was out of money. Period.) Some people thought I got money from "work-study" programs in the field house. But I never saw a penny of it. Every pay check was automatically put into my financial aid account to pay off my tuition. Sorry for the blather, but it's the one thing about college that bugs me. Well, that and all the brown-nosers who slip into cushy jobs because they were VERY chummy with the professors and/or personally know the CEO of some company and get the job (ala "Tommy Boy"). Ugh, sometimes I wish our country just had a "national" university system so everyone pays the same and gets the same education out of it. Oh, and edod, I don't have any problem with you, personally, about your post. Your comment is fine. I just wanted to put my 2 cents into it. Don't think that I think anything "bad" about you.
  10. it is a waiting game indeed. You must show patience with that site and camera. Just when you want to give up, something interesting does show up and you'll kick yourself for missing it. It's kind of like staying up really late during a woot-off. You know you want to go to sleep, but the minute you go to bed, a BOC or something really cool shows up and you miss it, so you stay up even longer. Or like playing any of the Civilization games. Oh, and by the way, thanks for reminding my wife about the Africam. She hadn't visited in nearly 6 months and was actually starting to show signs of productivity. That's shot now. Maybe she'll get off her "webkins" habit now. I can only hope.
  11. to be fair, I never said that CC and/or Braun would win their respective awards. I only said that they would get votes. And they WILL get some votes. I'll bet my year's salary on that.
  12. I will assume that, heaven's to Betsy, the "unused" tickets in any series will be credited to our 2009 account. It was hard paying all that money last September, but nice as heck paying only $40 to renew for 2008 when the bill came in December.
  13. he's definitely going to get some votes, as Braun will for MVP. But you said it yourself. He's got 7-8 more starts left. Let's see what happens after that. We're going to need something to talk about on that Monday off-day on October 1st anyways, right?
  14. boy, that trade keeps getting better and better!!!! seriously, I hope he's okay for the Tribe. Sounds like an interesting game.
  15. advertisements and sponsorships help pay the bills. I'm all for it. At least our outfield wall doesn't look completely covered with ads like I've seen in some stadiums.
  16. I just happened to turn the channel just as the 100m race started. Pretty amazing stuff that he won easily, despite pulling up with 20% of the race remaining and even looking to his side to see there were any competitors around. Oh, and Michael Phelps. Bravo!
  17. well, the way things are going lately with the other teams, I fully expect Henry Blanco so hit a pinch-hit 3-run triple to pull it out for the Cubs tonight. Or, even worse, a pitcher doing it (not named Zambrano).
  18. when will Jim Powell get his due?
  19. still, a scoop shouldn't have even been necessary with a good throw. Yeah, Martin would likely have been safe, but the trepidation on every ground ball DP chance that Weeks has to make the turn is confounding. Plus, this is the vent thread. Let me vent without proving me wrong--even if you are right.
  20. areacodes, I think I got drunker just reading your post. Yeah, I've been dilly-dallying in rum-n-cokes all night long. First 2 days of school= done. 182 days remaining= I need a drink. Brewers have still had a heck of a season, so far. Hard to believe that it's August 15th (16th, depending on where you live) and they only have 53 losses! Wow!
  21. two straight days of Brewer losses partnered up with everybody else that we needed to lose, winning instead. Semi-depressing, but gotta stay positive. Well, I do, anyways.
  22. I'm venting that there were no vents about tonight's game. You guys (and gals) must've fallen asleep on your couches or something! Okay, my real vent is that I'm pretty tired of Rickie Weeks' defense on potential double plays. In the first inning, Jeff Kent hits a hard ground ball to the right of second base, where Weeks is shaded(!) and he still tries his ole! backhand play and let's it get through. A Manny Ramirez base hit later and the Dodgers get a run. Seriously, he's shaded towards the bag. He almost literally had to take one or two steps to his right to come up with the ball. But, NO, he has to try to backhand the darned ball. Not to mention the "trademarked" side-armed throw later in the game that he threw away, right before Blake's homer. Yeah, he successfully turned the twin-killing with the side-arm throw later in the game, but it's so frustrating. He's "worked so hard" in pre-game with the coaches, etc. etc. ad nauseum. We've heard this for years. But for some reason, in actual games, he turns into Shaquille O'Neal at the free-throw line, with a serious case of the yips. End of vent.
  23. my problem is that we will likely buy the entire ticket strip. Okay, that's not a problem, but my in-laws will take any playoff games that they can go to but those they don't I'll have to offer here or on stubhub or something. With me being in AZ, I'll have to overnight any tickets, likely, and that will make me take a "hit" on the ticket price, if I'm being honest about it. Maybe, somebody will be willing to take on the shipping price, but it will possibly make potential suitors "uneasy" about buying from me because they "might" not get the tickets on time if UPS has a snafu, even on an overnight delivery.
  24. I tip my beer vendor at the stadium every time. A) They deserve it, as it's very hard work. B) I used to tend bar so I know what tips are all about. C) If you tip enough and often, they'll be back to your section and will "cater" to you a bit more and more often as the game progresses, which is nice.
  25. I use an external hard drive with my laptop. Works great. You can find decent-capacity externals for really decent prices if you look around. The transfers are a snap. I've always thought of re-formatting my laptop. Is there any special benefits to doing this regularly, especially if you're not having any real problems?
