  1. If Houston goes nuts and finishes 18-1 or something absurd like that, you gotta hand it to them that they got it done. Seeing as last year's Rockies finish is pretty much a big-time fluke event, I'll be very surprised if the 'Stros can do it the very next season. I'm not worried about any other team except the Brewers. Like someone else said, if they lose out on the playoffs they will have no one but themselves to blame for it. And I'll cry in my beer, I'm pretty sure.
  2. got it done, finally, Brian. Thanks for putting up with me the awesome site.
  3. desperate times call for desperate measures . . . . Not too excited about it. The sprinting in from the bullpen thing is something for the 90s (didn't a Brewer used to do that?) but it sure seems to tire him out, based on some of those numbers from the past. Maybe the rest of the relievers will be motivated to pitch better after seeing Doug have to dig way into the cosmos to pull a fairly cruddy pitcher out of nowhere and put him in Milwaukee.
  4. keep spoilers to a minimum, please. It's sitting on my tivo until I get a chance to watch it. But, yes, I've heard great things and am looking forward to seeing it. In general, with television shows, I think all users need to keep spoilers to themselves for the most part. Put it in the title, use different colored fonts, whatever, so others who may peruse it for discussion do not get word of spoilers if they don't want to see it. There are times that I like to read about a television show in a thread but somebody blows it without posting any warning. It's very troublesome for some people--like me--to see that. Is it the end of the world? Well, no, it's a tv show. But it would be appreciated.
  5. in the past 4 weeks, Jason Kendell (1) has more home run than Prince Fielder (0). I'd have bet my year's salary back in February that this would not occur in August/September when Prince has done a lot of damage in the past (well, last year, at least.)
  6. my vent . . . . we won't be having a 100-win season.. . . . AGAIN! Just a week and a half ago I was amazed that we were still in the mid-fifties in the loss column. Pirates are 3 easy wins? Not the way they're playing right now. They're still 2 weeks away, who knows where we'll be at that point? Besides, I'm sure a lot of people thought 4 games vs San Diego would net at least 3 wins and also 2 wins (at worst) against Cincy (who have played mighty well in the spoiler role so far this month.)
  7. How soon until they turn human waste into fuel for vehicles? Boy, gasoline would fall to about a nickel a gallon!
  8. 3 game lead or not, it's looking more and more like I won't be having $1900 charged to my credit card in a few weeks. THAT'S a huge silver lining in my household.
  9. boy, we can completely eliminate two more teams from the WC with a win tonight. Let's git 'er done!
  10. Not sure about other teams, but the D-Backs (Sutton and Grace) do this, too. In fact, they throw out their answers and the guys in the truck respond with a "buzz" (wrong) or a "ding" (right) that goes over the air so we all hear it. Don't know how many of you remember this but Jim Powell was VERY green when he first started on the radio with Uecker. He had broadcast games before but not at the major league level. Plus, he had to try to be a partner of Bob Uecker and replace an "icon" in Pat Hughes. Not sure if it was nerves, not wanting to step on toes, or what but he was very raw when he first started. I did not like him at all. But over the years, he got better. You need experience to be good at. And that goes with any job out there--teachers, construction, plumbing, computer IT guy, etc.
  11. nope, two more years. I agree that he has been less than advertised, especially for the last few weeks.
  12. I'll have to do it when I get home from work but, yeah, no problem. Any recommended amount? Last time, you guys closed it out before I had a chance to make a submission so hopefully it will still be open by this evening.
  13. I'm hosting MNF for our fantasy league tomorrow (we rotate through the season). Needless to say, they will put up with me flipping to the Brewer game during commercials. I'd do it the other way around, but there will be less grumbling this way.
  14. Yeah, just look at us on this board. We "see" each other every day and find things to "pick on" all the time. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif On topic, I've said it once, and I'll say it again: for those people that complain about our announcers, I defy you to watch an entire television (or listen to an entire radio) broadcast of the Pittsburgh Pirates and not turn the channel or do anything else but watch the game. Seriously. It is impossible unless you are a Bucco homer. The "highlights" that they played last Sunday morning on XM's recap of the Brewers victory last Saturday were "hilarious" in how bad they were. This "challenge" also applies to the following teams: Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, Oakland Athletics, Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Rays, and several others, I'm sure. Brian Anderson is a homer, to be sure. But he's not as much as Ron Santo, the White Sox knuckleheads (Hawk especially). Another cool thing to try sometime is set up a karaoke machine by your television one night and--no drinking allowed--do the play-by-play and/or color commentary (even better if you do this with a buddie) with the television muted. Oh, and record it, too--either audio tape (some karaoke machines do this) or video tape. Then, take a listen/look at it a few days later. You'll be amazed at some of the dumb things you will say while trying this art out. Oh, and if you are a big Brewer fan (you're on this site, so I would assume that you are) you'll be doubly amazed at how many "homer-ish" things you say--especially in a particularly exciting point of the game. It's not easy, folks. Sincerely, A former PBP guy No, really.
  15. hey, but Trevor Hoffman has been very hittable this year.
  16. well, there's a start. Nice job JJ
  17. 3 more left on base. I see everybody decided to go home a month early. 20-7 August, 0-for September. Pretty frustrating, but at least we're "hitting" Estes. Sooner or later we'll break through again.
  18. this statement I will agree with completely 100%. The brats at County Stadium were to die for. I don't know what they did--maybe it was the years and years of grease and sausage residue on the grills--but they were awesome. The few times that I have been privileged to go to Miller Park (remember, I live in AZ) the sausages are those darn white "stadium-style" brats. Come on! EVERY park does those. Maybe it's because County Stadium, for the most part, used Johnsonville Brats? There's got to be a reason that Bob Costas would always reveal his brat-intake during the Saturday Game of the Week on NBC whenever he was in Milwaukee. Because now when he visits Miller Park (in the booth with Ueck or wherever) you never hear it anymore. As for taking in food, I still remember the afternoons and evenings popping popcorn at my cousin's house in Brookfield and filling paper grocery bags with it. And making some kool-aid in some nice big camping thermos. Man, those were the days. I think it's a mistake. Even the D-Backs have started to allow some things to be taken into the ballpark. There are restrictions, of course, but you can bring stuff in.
  19. I wore one of my Peanuts ties today to commemorate the occasion. Snoopy's "voice" always made me laugh.
  20. man, facing another lefty. I know our record vs. left-handed starters is outstanding but, jeepers, we sure didn't look it (at times) against the Mets. Hope Suppan keeps up his winning ways.
  21. Toronto picked "Raptors" because when they came into existance, dinosaurs were even more of a cool thing than normal, thanks to Jurassic Park and the sequels. Just like their purple color scheme. I agree it should be something better but what? Toronto Mounties? Toronto Freeze (tribute to the Great White North, like Miami to it's sunshine)? Toronto Maple Syrups?
  22. I'm sure Russ will chime in here soon, but I will preemptively agree with him. Yes, they have a chance. But, no, I'm not worried about them They still have to jump the Cards and the Mets/Phillies. Not to mention that 6 or 7 games is a pretty large deficit with 23 games to play. Is it possible that they make a huge run like the Rockies last year? Sure, its "possible." Likely? No. It would have to take phenominal play from them while the Crew has a tremendous belly flop against some pretty weak teams (minus the Phillies and Cubs, of course).
  23. I have noticed that clicking the baseball logo will sometimes bring me to the first unread message and sometimes not. Especially if it is (the horror!) perhaps a few days in between visits to the site. So, even when I click the baseball, I still have to scroll up to make sure I didn't miss any.
  24. listening to the game today on gameday audio, it sounds so much like a game out of the Bad News Bears--even if it really isn't. Start off in a huge hole. Start to claw back but give runs right back. Walking the ballpark. Hits galore for the opponents. I will forgive all if the Crew can score 6 or more right now, though.
  25. at least it's a month late this year
