  1. we caught the lizard on Sunday morning before church. Here's a few pictures: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_2018.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_2019.jpg he ran pretty much all around the house for a good 5 days.
  2. I'll agree that it's the Stanley Cup. Not only is it big, has everybody's name on it, and looks really cool, but it's the only championship trophy that the winners actually run (skate) around with after they win it. I've never seen any other sports trophy being run around the arena/playing field after the title (exception: I guess I do remember Reggie White doing it with the Lombardi Trophy.) Plus, every member of the winning team, from the players to the coaching staff to the front office (maybe even the middling staff, like ushers, ticket sales, etc. but I'm not sure) gets to take the trophy home with them and, basically, do whatever they want with it. Want to eat breakfast cereal out of it? You bet! How about take it to a strip club? Bingo! Pretty much anything goes. Of course, I am particularly partial to this trophy: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_2020.jpg the P.I.T.C.H. League Championship Trophy.
  3. yeah, the Cards defense kinda shut the lights out and went to bed once Carpenter left the mound. At least he didn't look in agony. Maybe he just broke some scar tissue and it "scared" him a bit and they took him out for precaution. Oh, well, we gained a game on the Cards. Woulda been nice to see the Cubs lose.
  4. I can see the White Sox seriously going hard after Jerrod Washburn now. Too bad for Contreras. He really had turned things around from last season's disappointment.
  5. they get plenty of press here and the media is trying to have faith that they can hold on to the division lead for the last 6 weeks. The fans, on the other hand, seem very apathetic about it. Except for the die-hards (and there are some here), many fans really don't care what the team does until September or even October. I've spoken with many fans and, by far, the majority of them are just at the game to be "seen" by others and/or meet up with friends to go clubbing afterward (it's a very popular meeting place, this Chase Field and it's Diamond Club bar thingy in right-centerfield.) It's pretty pathetic.
  6. okay, here's another clue: video game
  7. I think the world is coming to an end. . . . . Winning Pitcher: Mota
  8. I like that the strike zone has been very fair today for both sides, despite the relatively low strike called and the high strike not. Good game, though. But very frustrating when you score 4 runs on 19 baserunners. Gagne didn't help, but he was due (although, I would have had the pen throwing after the Zimmerman double).
  9. This statement is right on the money, ESPECIALLY in Arizona as I witnessed that first hand. I know I was that way last year during the post-season (I was holding out for World Series tickets, FWIW). However, driving 4 hours there and 4 hours back is not that appetizing for me. But the locals sure stayed away in droves all season last year and, for the most part, this season too.
  10. ah, I totally missed that one. Thanks, Brian.
  11. I'm actually kind of disappointed that there was no "Summer is Back" thread to go with last year's awesome "Winter is Back" thread. Edit: I believe that Jerry (Tailgate Tips) Garcia would put Gorgonzola cheese in his breakfast cereal if he could.
  12. Winning baseball begats butts in seats. Cleveland had some astounding sellout streak (into the 100s, I think) when they played well, but the minute they were a second-division team (that's a very old saying now; look it up if you don't understand it) the crowds stayed away. Believe it--it would be the exact same thing in Boston if they suddenly had a really lousy season (maybe not right away, but definitely during a second consecutive season of crappy baseball). It won't happen in New York until 2010 at the earliest, however, due to old ballparks closing and new parks opening next year (the "novelty" effect.) The Brewers will continue to put people in their park as long as they are a winning, contending ballclub. And will likely sellout every home game from July-September every season that they are a winning, contending ballclub.
  13. Do you think any team, but particularly the Brewers, could have interest in this guy? He was released by Washington last week and apologized profusely to the team and it's fans for his play this year. Maybe he'd be motivated to play a little better and it could give a team a needed boost at backup catcher. Not that we need a backup catcher since Kendell is obviously shooting for 145-150 games started this season.
  14. I would think that calling some of those guys up, even if their not going to get any playing time (except mop up work or appearing as a pinch-runner/ defensive replacements), is a great idea because they will gain the experience of being in the big leagues. They'd be able to soak it all in. Maybe, it would ease their nerves a little bit in advance of their real opportunity in 2009, 2010, or whenever. Depth is never a problem. In years past, we hardly called up guys in September because the team was trying to save money. I don't think Mark A. cares about money this year. He just wants to win and depth in September can help out.
  15. I'll give some people a bit more time before I give another clue. Probably tomorrow evening.
  16. man, either this one was way too difficult or everybody's busy this weekend. I mean, not even the requisite "Taint McFadden" guess? C'mon! I suppose you'll need another clue: singer
  17. nice stat screen during the pre-game show: "Bullpen Innings Leaders in NL: Brewers 326.0 Diamondbacks 331.2 Phillies 342.0 Giants 352.2 Cubs 353.1 Brewers Starters 710.0 IP (Leads NL)" Gee, ya think? Who's the brainiac that decided to add that last line?
  18. well, let's say CC does have 9 starts remaining. And then let's say he wins 8 of those with a no-decision thrown in. And let's say 4 of those are complete games and 2 of them shutouts. And he strikes out 10 batters or more in 3 of those starts. And the other games he allows only 1, 2, or 3 earned runs. Oh, and the Brewers make the playoffs. Hmmmm. Sabathia ends up 14-0 with the Crew, with 8 CG, 4 shutouts, at least 100 k, and an ERA around 2.00 (at worst). That sounds like a Cy Young Award winner if I've ever heard of one.
  19. wow, pneumonia in the summertime. Didn't somebody mention in the "What's Bugging You?" thread about getting pneumonia in the summertime and how weird that is? Too sad to see him go at age 50. I was never a big fan (I saw Mr. 3000 one time) but he seemed to be a pretty funny guy. I never knew he made it out of the projects.
  20. Looks more like ESPN's Neil Everett if you ask me.
  21. yeah, the Rays are the "early" leaders in the clubhouse on those two trades: they got Balfour and Gross (who, although his total numbers don't indicate so, he has been a great addition to their club and has at least 2 or 3 walk-off or game-tying hits in late innings.) We got McClung, who has had his share of ups and downs, and a minor leaguer. We can't say that the Rays completely won those trades but they look good for now. The entire Rays pen is pretty miraculous if I may so. In addition to Balfour, you've got Percival (1.06 whip, 24 saves), Wheeler (0.90 whip!), Howell (1.19 whip), and then Trevor Miller and Al Reyes, who, stats be darned, are no slouches. (these stats are not completely up-to-date, as I took them out of this week's Baseball Weekly.)
  22. my wife said that an entire team entered the Olympic Stadium wearing Croc's. I don't know if that's true or not--didn't see it.
  23. I bet I could guess my wife's perfect board: Cross-stitching Egytology The Animal Kingdom Starbucks Coffee Flavors Sixteen Candles Duran Duran
  24. wow, it looks like some people need clues! (good, I picked a HARD one!) Clue #1: Cars
  25. yes, I just read somewhere that some Greek team is contemplating offering LeBron a $50 million/year contract to come play for them.
