  1. I'll just add what I wrote in the Sabathia trade rumors section earlier this afternoon: and
  2. which means that in the past, we'd likely go 1-4 against that motely crew. Now that we have Sabathia, we'll likely go 2-3. I kid, I kid! Seriously, you're right. That is pretty putrid. Mark Redman is the one that "scares" me the most because he has handled the Brewers in the past (I don't subscribe to Baseball Reference so I can't get full stats, but I did see a 6-0 shutout win in 2006 from him--checked espn, in 2005, we went 2-2 against him but the 2 losses were well-pitched, including a shutout. In 2003, he went 3-0 against us [ugh].)
  3. JJ could theoretically get put on the team if somebody gets hurt during the week. Not that I wish harm on any players.
  4. It's absolutely fine if you and others feel that it's fun to think about it. I, for one, do not think of any fun out of putting a potential future ace into dangerous situations when his health is not 100%. Heck, it won't even be 80% in October. I just have too many memories of pitchers trying to come back way too early from an injury and it backfires horribly on them. Just because an injury feels like it is healed and you are having no problems with it it doesn't mean that it IS healed. I don't know how many times I felt great after a few days of antibiotics for a chest infection, but the infection will return even worse if I don't do ALL the rehab (antibiotics). Maybe it's a bad analogy but so many physiological problems need proper and COMPLETE healing or you risk making things worse or causing incomplete healing which will, then never heal properly. Sure, it's fun to dream about but I will seriously quit this board and become a Royals fan with Ben Hendrickson's dad if Gallardo pitches at all during the 2008 regular season or post-season (winter ball is another story, although I highly doubt that, too.) edit: This thread is not for discussing Gallardo, so I'm done talking about it. If you want, we can PM about it, but otherwise, I've said my stance on the issue. You may not agree and that's fine.
  5. wow, maybe Madonna has a shot after all. I know that you're just posting baseball news, but this is not "news" to me. It belongs in People magazine not on ESPN or the sports pages.
  6. this may not be the appropriate thread for this, but I wish people would stop asking about Gallardo and his "coming back" date in the fall. It will not happen. If it does, (a) he is a modern medical miracle, a freak-of-nature, if you will, and (b) he will likely be VERY ineffective after having no real arm strength from not throwing all summer. And, I guess, © he will greatly be at risk to re-injure that knee and/or do something structurally to his arm. He will be back in full swing in the spring. End of story.
  7. I gotta be honest, I'm not liking reading articles that this is not a done deal and here we are on post #139 (or more). This could be egg-on-face.
  8. darn it, I knew I'd screw something up. Figures, it's the one trade that I didn't look up for accuracy sake.
  9. sorry, I have to do this, but no pun intended? Just made me laugh when I read that.
  10. Exactly, Russ. I like your thinking. This may very well become a trade that we talk about for years like Vuke, Fingers, and Simmons for DiPino, Bass, and Lezcano. Or it may turn into a trade that we talk about for years like Sheffield for Mieske, Valentin, and Bones or Vaughn for Newfield, Villone, and Florie. We just don't know right now, but I am so willing to take that chance. It's way better than going the "status quo" and hoping you make it while not gambling on the future. For all we know, Matt LaPorta could get to the majors and be the next Wily Mo Pena. I like to see our team's front office go on the "offensive" for once.
  11. congrats on getting it done! YAY! as per usual, we have this news up before most other news outlets. Nice.
  12. ha! that's funny, bullox! I totally forgot about that thing! Good memories!
  13. wow, those vote totals, for Brewers, are amazing! We had a top 3 guy at most every position. That either means we truly have a team that fans (not just our own) have a high opinion on or the entire NL is way down this year.
  14. keep in mind that the Japanese/foreign vote was probably counted, tabulated, and finalized over the last week-plus. Those people are baseball savvy and probably gave Braun a truckload of votes as the defending ROY, knowing that Griffey is old and sub par. Just a theory, of course.
  15. considering the winner for the last few years has received over 2 million votes, our 100K aren't going to be the difference-maker
  16. yeah, but kids relish seeing Bernie Brewer, for the most part. Showing Bernie is iconic to the team and "important" to get kids interested in the team. Sure, us adults don't care, but . . . .
  17. I'm sorry but I'm not going to bother voting. Call me unpatriotic. Call me a non-Brewer fan. But the last two times that I have voted up a storm (I'm talking a LOT of online votes) in this "Last Man" vote (Jenkins and Capuano), I just killed my hand/arm for a few weeks afterwards. It wasn't worth it. On top of that, Cappy lost the vote but still got picked due to injury replacements. Knowing my luck, I'd vote 5000 times again, Corey would lose, and then get asked to replace Soriano anyways. No thanks, not worth my time. Those of you that ARE doing it, have fun. I DID have fun those years, but I paid for it. I can't do it anymore. I'll leave it to you young 'un's.
  18. boy the Rockies sure have had some bad luck the last few years with some very promising shortstops. First, Clint Barmes and the deer meat episode. Now Tulo and the broken bat.
  19. as promised, here are a select few shots that I or my wife took this week down in Phoenix. I had to cut it down a bit (we took over 400 pictures!) so these are what we liked best. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1580.jpg Obviously, this is Capuano being interviewed by Craig C. on Monday night, about 10 feet from us. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1663.jpg this is a nice shot of Weeks playing second. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1610.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1597.jpg these two were for hawing http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1846.jpg I liked Braun doing his best Hideo Nomo impersonation during warmups before the first inning on Tuesday. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1872.jpg My wife took this one. I like it. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1877.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1878.jpg Pre-game stretching. Note the bandage on Braun's wrist. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1883.jpg Yount in the dugout prior to the game. My wife took this one. She wasn't quite tall enough to get the dugout all the way out of the shot. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1913.jpg Seth McClung http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1906.jpg Corey Hart on Wednesday night. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1921.jpg Gee, I wonder who this is? http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1937.jpg Gabe Kapler http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1946.jpg Mike Cameron http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1930.jpg Here's the weakest hit ball of Russell Branyan's career. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1978.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1979.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1980.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1981.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1982.jpg here's a series of shots from a Branyan swing. Shock waves from the mighty swath of air followed. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/IMG_1990-1.jpg My wife is very fond of this shot she took of Webb prior to Thursday's game.
  20. it's funny, I am literally refreshing ESPN and this site every five minutes in anticipation. It seems so imminent . . . . but will probably not go down at all, knowing my luck. It's like watching a woot-off and no bag of crap ever shows up.
  21. wow, dhonks, that is a spot-on comparison of Weeks and Patterson. Bravo! I hadn't thought of that but you're right!
  22. D-Backs are doing a great thing with their broadcast tonight. They have satellite feed in Iraq and are letting families talk to each other during the broadcast. Brilliant idea--bad execution, as most wives and husbands have had nothing to say to each other, because they're embarrassed to be doing their talking on television. Very awkward stuff. Oh, and the D-backs are "not doing well."
  23. what do you mean "almost"? If that was you, I saw you being escorted out of your seat and up onto the concourse. They actually showed it on TV; I was pretty impressed that they'd show it.
  24. I'd at least be tempted to take a flyer on him. It's been a few years since he pitched in the NL so hitters might not be so ready for him. Can't be any worse than Tavarez, can it?
  25. yep, 2 straight wins for Chestnut over Kobiyashi. We're having hot dogs for lunch in his honor. Plus, it's the American thing to do. Baseball, beer, hot dogs.
