  1. like someone else said, I truly appreciate his hustle and his arm behind the plate. Veteran leadership helps too although the team slump can't be his fault, can it? After so many years of slow-footed catchers with noodles for arms (although Henry Blanco has a cannon), it's nice to see a ground ball by our catcher actually turn into a fairly close play at first.
  2. I understand the function of GPA, but what do the letters stand for? I can't figure that one out. I also don't understand how a pitcher is struggling in a 7-1 game that the Brewers are leading (as in jazzytrav's post). Unless you meant it's a 7-1 game but the starter is constantly walking guys and leaving them on base in addition to a very high pitch count, which constitutes a lot of luck to still be leading 7-1. Is that what you meant?

  4. That is exactly what camera I bought! A school photographer actually suggested it to me in the fall and we bought it for Christmas. LOVE IT! I just bought my zoom lens (75-300) about a month ago and I'm eager to try it out. And yeah, the "action" setting is awesome with the high shots per second.
  5. man, I can't wait to get to Chase to take some good action shots with my camera setup this summer. I've seen what you have (on tv, of course) and mine is very similar. One of the main reasons I bought the camera.
  6. I find it interesting that this is the 2nd year in a row that the "strength" of the team has disappointed. Last year, our pitching staff was supposedly our strong spot (yes, I realize this could be argued, too, but I recall many writers, bloggers, posters, etc. stating how much they liked the rotation, pen, and closer for last year's team). To me, they disappointed once you got past the 24-10 start to the year. This year, our offense was supposed to "carry" this team and, as you noted above, they haven't done even 20% of what we expected of them. Meanwhile the pitching and defense have been "steady" (again, this could be argued, but I'm going to bed.)
  7. New one up tonight!!! No sleep tonight, darn it all!
  8. Tomorrow they'll probably edit their article and add the 2008 entry to the list.
  9. we need to have a dugout fight between our hothead pitcher (if we have one) and our catcher (Kendell). Then Ned Yost needs to vehemently argue a play at third and get tossed and making a spectacle of himself. This will guarantee a change in the team's attitude that will easily carry over to a complete turn around in our season. Division title here we come!
  10. I was reading through my media guide some more this morning during breakfast and I totally had forgotten that the 1992 Brewers had 250-ish stolen bases as a team that year. I can't check at work but that has got to be one of the last pure basestealing teams in baseball that finished with 200+ team steals. I can't think of any since, off the top of my head.
  11. Looked pretty good to me. Just off the inside corner, at worst.
  12. that's pretty neat. I always wondered how they managed to "pick" their recipients. I'll let my wife know about this thread since she's huge into that show. Me, not so much.
  13. Congrats! Make sure you put the ball in his left hand. And the toys, pacifier, bottle, everything in the left hand.
  14. logan kind of stated what I would have had I seen this earlier. Yeah only four runs are charged to him but to allow that many baserunners will eventually catch up to him. I know that several times this season I have stated out loud, "now I know why Mets fans didn't like this guy." He definitely is not the same guy that pitched for the Dodgers (kind of like Gagne) just a few seasons ago. Man, I really hope that the pen could pull off one of those semi-epic 10-20 inning shutout streak one of these weeks.
  15. I knew it had been a while but not that long! Wow. The offense will pick up at some point. It has to, based on the law of averages. They were just plain mashing in spring training (albeit against sub-par pitchers for the most part) and it will happen again for a stretch. The question is when? I still say that all these close games and extra inning affairs can only help the team if and when they do make the playoffs and every game is likely a tight one.
  16. It's real early, but I would not be surprised at all to see him in the starting lineup of the All Star game, what with Cub fans stuffing the ballot box for their new hero and the Japanese fans voting online. He was never a "big name" guy in Japan, like Ichiro, but he was pretty darn good over there and probably has a rather large fan base, too. Assuming that he continues playing this year as he has started and his career continues to be good, I can definitely see him being a perennial All Star.
  17. The perfect ending to the not-so-perfect day. What a buzz kill from yesterday.
  18. been a while since I've seen back-to-back-to-back shots live. Usually only see that on BBTN or something like that.
  19. it's really sad that every time a ball is hit, I feel the need to yell, "Don't tear your ACL!" CV sliding for that bunt made me do it real loud; made my wife laugh.
  20. the thing is, we're already having trouble with the grass at Miller Park with 81 games as it is. If we add 81 more, they'd be playing on either dead grass or fresh sod that hasn't had a chance to root, resulting in more torn ACLs and other assorted injuries. No thanks. (yeah, I might be bitter about the ACL thing, but even without that comment, my point about the grass problems is spot on.)
  21. yeah, I read about that on another board. Quite the sports(wo)manship, if I may say so. Must have been just horrible for the coach, teammates, fans, parents to see the girl have to crawl in agony back to the bag. And then to see opponents do what they did to give everybody a memory that they'll never forget.
  22. so you're saying we're not going to win one of those Sports Emmys this year?
  23. Home St. Louis: 4 games: 3-1 L.A. Dodgers: 3 games: 2-1 Atlanta: 3 games: 1-2 Houston: 2 games: 2-0 Away Chicago: 1 game: 1-0 Houston: 3 games: 1-2 Florida: 3 games: 1-2 Boston: 3 games: 1-2 Pittsburgh: 3 games: 2-1 Washington: 4 games: 3-1 17-12 from me. I'll take that record. Personally, I'll even take a 15-14 month and wouldn't be surprised about it either.
  24. I kept it on 'til the end. It's the Brewers and I'm a die hard. Oh, I watched, too. I had to watch the final appearance of Derrick Turnbow in the majors (until the Pirates sign him, that is).
  25. I can't believe Stetter has to come in to game in the 8th inning with 2 outs
