  10. somebody else (logan?) already mentioned it, but shark is fabulous. Very tasty. Otherwise, my smart remark would be "beer-battered."
  11. Jabba the Hutt in human form?
  12. these are very good. But some of the quirks are very easy to remember and the writer has written the pieces as if it is a textbook for 5th graders or something. The second article with the emails . . . wow, I can't believe that there are some people who read "The Hardball Times" (one of the best hardcore baseball sites on the net) hasn't heard of the Fred Merkle story?!?! Wow. Just wow.
  13. Pre- and post-game shows were sometimes brutal, but it's better than nothing (like we Directv people used to get). I haven't heard or seen anything about Davey Nelson. I would assume Craig is back since he worked the dinner show a couple weeks ago. How about that new guy that did studio stuff once they got rid of Ann Whatsername? Haven't heard much from him (didn't hear much from him during the season either). I would guess Davey Nelson will not be back due to his issues last year. I really thought he would get better and more relaxed as the year went along but, at times, it seemed like he got worse. I noticed it was always trouble when it was live. But if it was some taped segment that they could re-do, he was fine and, actually, semi-informative. Bill and Brian are just fine. Brian took a bit of time to get the hang of things but by the end of the season, he was pretty much with the program (he still needs some work on spontaneous calls, IMO, like home runs and close plays). I miss Daron and Matt but whatever. Bill is Bill and I take him for what he's worth. He may not BE knowledgeable but he makes himself SOUND like he is. And, combined, Bill and Brian are tons better than at least half the other announcers out there. The camera crew is fine and, for the most part, nail a lot of close pictures of plays, etc. Maybe a few too many crowd shots, but that's not their fault. It's the director's and producer's fault (and FOX's for giving us this onslaught through their entire corporation of sports broadcasting.) I'm pretty sure the sound techs have done an outstanding job, with minor hiccups here and there. What other crew members would you like to know about? The cable layers? The guy who drives the broadcast truck around? The people who apply the makeup?
  14. well, it has all worked out. THANK YOU, MIDWEST AIRLINES! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif We fly in to Milwaukee tomorrow afternoon and leave on Monday afternoon. Hope the wind and ice stay away while we're landing. Amazingly, I was only able to find flights for $400-450 on airlines that we were willing to take. (sorry, but $300 on US Airways/America Worst Airlines is one of those "you get what you pay for" experiences. We gave up on that crappy airline several years ago--spending a little extra coin takes away the aggravation). But Midwest was willing to give us a bereavement fare of $375 each so I jumped at it. Good flight times, too. Nothing bad about helping out the "home town" airline a bit, either. Chocolate chip cookies . . . Here I come! I suppose this post would also qualify under the "what's not bugging you" thread but I won't double post.
  15. it has been in the past, so I would imagine so. Check out the wtmj website. I think it is www.620wtmj.com but I'm not sure so I won't hyperlink it.
  16. well, no guarantee on Uecker but it seems once a spring, Powell will get a phone call from Ueck and they'll ham it up (i.e. Ueck pretends to be a disgruntled fan or whatever, until they let the cat out of the bag), but they didn't at all last season. I didn't hear Uecker until that first Saturday in March when they did their first broadcast (I think Powell was out sick all weekend so Bob and Kent did everything themselves--and ragged on Jim the whole time).
  17. yeah, I forgot to mention that I would take any online fare if it comes out cheaper than anything the airline offers me
  18. So it looks like the wife and I will be flying up to the motherland any day now as my grandfather is holding on to his last breaths. Anybody have any knowledge, wisdom, stories, or advice on getting bereavement fares on flights? I think you have to call the airline directly and request a breavement fare, of which they'll offer you, but you still pay full fare price and are given the difference back in a rebate when proof is accepted. It's not quite like George Costanza but I think you can get a letter from the funeral home as your proof. Anybody else have anything on this? I haven't had to buy flights yet but it could be hours away at the least or a couple of days, likely, at the most.
  19. sheets stated "polo grounds" in the blue font but there are many, many, long gone ballparks that I'd loved to have had the chance to visit. Photos just don't do them justice. Also, how many of you have been to Cooperstown and the Hall of Fame (Baseball, as there are other HOF's in Cooperstown--Hamburger HOF, for instance). My cousin and I shunned Arizona and Florida for Spring Break back in college and made a road trip to Cooperstown. One word: awesome! We spent 5 days up there checking everything out. The Hall of Fame even allowed us to play one of our post-season tabletop baseball games on one of the benches in the actual room of plaques (it wasn't busy in March at all) so that was cool. Of course, it just happened to be a game where we had 2 brawls and a league-record 13 players, managers, and coaches ejected. Thus started the annual "Hall of Fame Game" in our league where each team is required to get every player on their roster into the game. But I digress . . . There was also a bar/restaurant about a block for the Hall that had these awesome beef speidi (sp?) sandwiches. I want to say the restaurant's name was something along the lines of Louisville Slugger's or something--it was definitely a baseball-themed establishment.
  20. FINALLY! I'm guessing that I'll be able to stream it over the net again. That sportsbubbler page (formerly Brewers Radio Network) isn't too user friendly but I think I saw links to listen somewhere.
  21. yeah, paul, I agree. Our outfield prospect glut is going to bite is in the tush pretty soon if we don't deal some of them for other needs. Perhaps at the trading deadline. I think it's great that we have so many OF prospects but with Braun and Hart in the outfield for (probably) a while now, those guys in the minors are going to have to go bananas and get called up or they are going to be "wasted" talent. Might as well deal one or two of them at some point. (please note, this may be DM's and JZ's plan all along.)
  22. I can only comment on 3 (well, 4 really) as they are the only ones I have ever gone to. 1. Miller Park is a road trip for me and I enjoy it alot. I have only been there about a half dozen times but it looks better every time. I still remember going there for Opening Night in 2001 and walking around the upper deck concourses and wondering, "is this it????" because it was so wide open and not much there that it looked unfinished. But it has greatly improved since then, that I can see. 1a. County Stadium. Yeah, yeah, I know it doesn't exist anymore but that place just has too many special memories from my childhood. 2. Bank One Ballpark/Chase Field. This is my "home" field since I go here most often. I love the park, even though you feel like you're inside of an airplane hanger at times. But in the desert, it is definitely neccessary. The only thing about the fans that I don't like is that most of the fans are trying to do the LA thing--arrive late and leave early--since going to a D-Backs game is kind of a "status symbol" thing (go to the game to "be seen"). Oh, and the fans just do not have a clue of how to cheer spontaneously--the darn jumbotron has to lead every cheer and tell them when to get loud, etc. I hate that. Otherwise, the fans are pretty friendly. Just not too knowledgable. 3. Coors Field. The wife and I visited a few summers ago when the Brewers were in town. Very nice park and very friendly fans (with the exception of a small group that sat a few rows in front of us in the bleachers). It was very easy to get to and the bars and stuff in and around the park were very nice and not too pricey. I would definitely go back. Sad that I'm such a baseball fan but those are the only ballparks I've ever been to (minus spring training facilities--maybe we should have a thread on those?)
  23. are you asking about the percentage of BF.netters that are from Wisconsin? If so, I would guess it's in the neighborhood of 80-90%.
  24. what is up with that video? That was 40 seconds I'll never get back. As for Mr. Gammons, he is very respectful and I enjoy hearing him on TV. I remember when he was pretty much the only article on baseball in the paper that I would read every time. It helps that when he talks, he's usually right or close-to-being right about whatever rumor, story, trade, etc. that he is talking about.
