  1. In Estrada's defense, one on of those DP grounders to first base, he had to jump-dodge backwards to avoid the ball, which slowed him down tremendously. The throw was already at 2nd base by the time he pretty much got running again. I had thought the exact same thing until I saw the replay and saw that.
  2. on a semi-good note, Parra looked good that inning.
  3. eh, I'll just keep playing my MVP05 on my PC with the MVP07 mod and set at 1900x1200 resolution. It's purdy.
  4. jamie, if I lived in the West Allis area, I would do it. Unfortunately, a road trip isn't in the cards tonight.
  5. not to be nitpicky (oh alright, it is) but I have the Brewers at 65-62.
  6. thanks, ennder, I didn't get to see BBTN yesterday.
  7. I find it interesting that there was no mention of this injury on Sportscenter regarding Thursday's Pujols highlights. No surprise, of course, since it is ESPN.
  8. what are you using to "simulate the season"?
  9. I'm pretty sure it will go into my queue of PC games that I will buy when they are $10-20 and will play it then. Heck, I've still got about 10 unopened PC games waiting in the closet to play--including Half-Life 1! man, I'm so behind the times!
  10. Now this is what I don't get, and it's not a knock on you, Rickieweeks23, but on the guys ON Sportscenter (it actually aired on BBTN first): Laughing and mocking Kirkjian's reaction to the absurdity of the events of this game. Seriously, I would venture a guess that every human being at one time in their ADULT lives have been giddy as a schoolboy about SOMETHING, be it extreme joy over something, or something just absurd. Kirkjian is an outstanding baseball analyst who genuinely LOVES his profession--you can just tell. He is a guy that I would love to have a beer with and just talk baseball--doesn't even have to be Brewers. So what if he got excited that his voiced cracked a bit. The complete zaniness of the game almost demanded some excitement to describe how indescribable it was. When you love a job so much that it sometimes makes you look a bit disheveled due to excitement, you are in the right profession. Kudos to Kirkjian--those other guys on BBTN (Buster Olney, Kruk, and whoever the lead-guy was) maybe need to get a bit excited about something that no one alive has ever seen, rather than sit there like it's ho-hum and make fun of the one guy who actually cares.
  11. well, I can't get The Show or thank you (and TLB) as I don't have a console and won't be buying one anytime soon. However, nobody answered a question I had in a different thread about The Show or 2K7 (or it might have been on another message board and I'm confused): Can you update your rosters (as Mike Felder describes above) in mid-season and keep playing with these new settings? Every other game I've ever done that with crashes the game because settings are different from the saved database and it won't allow you to continue. If you wanted to download a roster set with updated ratings and such, you had to start a new season/franchise in order for it to work. Maybe I don't know anything about console video games anymore. If this is possible, that is one huge difference (and advantage) to consoles over PC games. Of course, I just tweak the PC game ratings for MVP Baseball if they aren't accurate during a season.
  12. to quote the Army Doctor in the Bugs Bunny cartoon where he reads the eye chart all the way to the bottom ("Forward, March Hare!" I believe is the short.) and then gets out the magnifying glass and checks it out: "uh. . . . . . yeah!"
  13. boy, tough crowd (understandably). hauser, I think mid-page one you made a comment along the lines of Jenkins needing to carry the team or something like that (I'm too lazy to go back and look, copy/paste it, and insert it here). But, realistically, right now the Brewers have a trio (or more) of hitters that are capable of "carrying" the team, and personally, I think I'd rather have that then have to depend on one guy (Jenkins) like we did in 2000-2004 or so. I think Jenkins kind of saw it last year as his numbers were atrocious until he got to September, when he finally had his hot streak. Honestly, nearly half the Brewers lineup is capable of "carrying" the team for a stretch or just a single game (Gross last night). That is MUCH better than when we had just the one go-to guy.
  14. Pardon me, if I'm wrong, but isn't Loretta 35-ish or so? If he is, than the quoted argument has no bearing except that Loretta is a MLB veteran of 10+ years while Dillon has not.
  15. well, first day back at work today and brewerfan.net worked fine . . . except for the off-topic page. The Norton Network manager gave the off-topic home page a horrendous score (due to using too many filtered words or whatever), which is peculiar because it was fine pre-yuku. I am guessing that having all those tags on the main page is what is setting it off as some of those tags are probably filtered (i.e. videogames). So, I'll officially give the changeover a solid B- now.
  16. Mattel Electronic Football II (the one that allowed you to pass the ball as well as run. kicking, too!) Intellivision, baby! (I had to get those Intellivision Lives! and Intellivision Rocks! CD-roms a few years ago) Metal lunch boxes with the weird thermos Pudding and fruit cups that came in metal cans with pull tabs and sharp pointy edges for school children to play with Swingsets, slides, and teeter-totters. oh, and merry-go-rounds (ALL banned and taken down at many schools across the country) Backyard baseball and football. Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing & Superfudge
  17. my wife and I had an absolute blast sitting right behind the dugout (literally). Never sat that close before. Great game. The Dback fans by us were pretty cool, although they tried to razz us early in the game, when it was still relatively close. Unfortunately, I had to tell them that I wouldn't be surprised at all if they had blown it again. Got about 2 voice mails and text messages saying that we were on Brewers TV several times. Don't know what "several" means, but I had my Cervacerros jersey on and my wife had her Blue 82 Anniversary shirt on. Sucks that I'm back at work today, though. Got home at 1 am after driving home.
  18. I still play along with the real Brewers on my PC. mvpmods.com is an awesome site. Got updated rosters, stadiums, photos, etc. etc. etc. There is a "little" bit for XBox and Playstation but not as much as the PC. PC's rule for this game. BTW, I am 9 games ahead of the real Brewers' pace this season. (i.e. I've won 9 more than in real life)
  19. I, too, wouldn't mind seeing something like this, if only to get the starters to start attacking hitters and trusting the defense (shudder!) a bit more and as a result stop nibbling on the corners and running up pitch counts. I understand why pitchers nibble, but sometimes it gets to be too much.
  20. Okay, I'm reading the IGT and see this quote from Ennder. And I agree with him completely. So my question is, if he is doubling his IP, why not shut him down this year? Why have him up here anymore if he's not going to be used? The comment just kinda struck a nerve (not in a bad way or towards Ennder or anything). EDIT: And. . . . . I look like a moron because I stopped reading the IGT to post this, and then when I go back to it, bruceciskie (sp?) already kind of said the same thing I did. Mods, don't know if you want to leave this open for discussion or not. I may keep reading the IGT and see more discussion on this topic.
  21. wasn't a fan of the Linebrink batting event. If our back end of the bullpen is so good, why not PH with a lead and get Turnbow in? And, if he struggles because he pitched yesterday? Bring in Wise or Parra (he is still with the team, right?). Heck, bring in Cordero is Turnbow struggles. But, no, he leaves in Linebrink. Okay, I lived with the decision but man, as the manager you have to realize that a short reliever is starting to get hit hard. And get the pen up. Same goes for that 6th inning (again) when nobody was even warming up (!) when Capuano began letting things slide away. Even after the 2-run homer to make it 1-run game, nobody got up for at least a batter. I'm all for giving our pitchers "chances" to get their confidence up but our manager needs to decide if we are just working on confidence (for next season, presumably?) or actually trying to win games and contend this year.
  22. well, we will be there after all. 2nd row right behind the Brewer dugout. They better win or at least make it a good ballgame or it'll be a long 3 1/2 hour drive home after ward. (I'm a D-Backs fan, too, so a win by them won't be so bad either. But I'd much rather have the Brewers win, since that's who I'll be cheering for.)
  23. winning, duh! (sorry I'm drunk and felt like being a smart mouth). The other posters are correct also.
  24. Lords of the Realm:: The Real History of Baseball by John Helyar was a very good book. Intriguing look into baseball in the late 80s and early 90s. An especially interesting take into the world of the owners (i.e. collusion). I was mesmerized and given a whole different outlook on the game.
  25. I never was a "hankie" kind of guy. Not to be gross, but with my allergies, the thing would be soaked in an hour and then I'd have to carry it around in my pocket or whatever. Granted, my allergies are MUCH better now that I'm in AZ (and on medication that actually works), but back in the day it was pointless to have anything less than a box of kleenex next to me at all times.
