  1. I think it's a move that's been a long time coming (Weeks, that is). I think I and others were calling for this to happen when he came off the DL a month ago.
  2. I agree with your assessment of the Braves and Yankees being chokers in the playoffs, Atlanta especially. I've always liked the Braves so I know what you're talking about. As for the Yanks, it's only been since 2001. I feel like I did my part as I was at game 7 of the series in Phoenix and as Rivera warmed up for the bottom of the 9th, I got on my hands and knees and actually prayed/hexed the Yanks to lose. And they've done jack squat since. Welcome to the boards!
  3. my wife and I discussed this very topic after he was pulled tonight. I think it has affected him more than we know. It'll take some time to get over it. For now, Spurling probably deserves to move into Wise's slot in the pen (unless one is getting sent down) and let him do some mop-up work.
  4. casey, you made a grown man cry. Nice story. Okay, maybe not CRY, but at least tears welling up. Is that semi-manly?`
  5. I just noticed that the Simpsons Movie is only 88 minutes long! What a rip off. I know Simpsons moves pretty fast, story-wise, but I'd have thought they'd milk it a bit longer than just 88 minutes!
  6. was your plane pressurized? I would venture a guess that there was no "sucking you out" like in the movies if your plane was unpressurized.
  7. maybe the in-game thread should be everybody posts about what else they are doing/watching instead of watching the game. example: I'll post that I'm sitting on my laz-e-boy that I'm reading baseball weekly while watching the Seinfeld episode with the Soup Nazi.
  8. who was "ranting" about it? I was seriously asking why it was ironic.
  9. Question for you . . . why is this ironic? As for the post, I think Braun will continue to hit. There's no reason that he'd slow down, other than an injury. I'll throw out .331 avg, 36 doubles, 29 HR, 89 RBI, .953 OPS
  10. I'll also wager $50. Count me in on it.
  11. I don't know about anybody else, but yesterday's DH sweep kind of reminded me of that DH sweep at the hands of the Pirates a couple of years ago. ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=203268#p203268 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=382
  12. I think this is a good idea for the HOF, because they're going to be lucky to get anybody elected in their first year of eligibility for a few years. Take a look at who gets their eligibility next year and the year after: 2008: Brady Anderson Andy Benes Delino DeShields Shawon Dunston Chuck Finley Travis Fryman David Justice Chuck Knoblauch Mike Morgan Robb Nen Tim Raines Greg Swindell Randy Velarde Mark Wohlers 2009: Steve Avery Jay Bell John Burkett David Cone Mike Bordick Ron Gant Mark Grace Rickey Henderson Denny Neagle Dean Palmer Dan Plesac Greg Vaughn Mo Vaughn Matt Williams Mike Williams Ugh! With the exception of Rickey Henderson, those lists are terrible. I would expect none of the others to make it (Grace is marginal). So I guess this gives the Veterans Committee a chance to get some of the old guys in (Santo, Tommy John, Blyleven, etc.). The writers may still get Jim Rice, Mark McGwire, or Gossage in too. But it doesn't look good to get first-year eligibe guys in.
  13. that's much better than watching Fredbird take batting practice and tackle kids for a half-hour. That's what's on the Cards TV feed.
  14. I'd comment but my wife reads these boards, so . . .. .
  15. I had not seen that before. Very funny stuff. Usually Conan's stuff just isn't my cup of tea.
  16. I don't think it really has anything to do with the Brewers "not liking" him as a prospect. I think it was more that SD demanded a top-notch prospect for somebody along the lines of Linebrink. You gotta give something to get something usually.
  17. Only time I was in NYC was as a senior in HS in '91. Our group also stayed in the Roosevelt Hotel. We called it "Dive No. 5" because our room was room No. 5 on the floor but it was a hole in the wall. No kidding. Plus, they tried to pack 6 of us HS-sized guys in a room made for two. And no A/C. After some "complaining" (that's putting it mildly, by the way) our director was able to finagle an extra room so we could split up. Sorry, but that place was a dive. The lobby--nice. The rest--not so much. Things may have changed since then, however. Highlight of the hotel, I guess, was sneaking up onto the roof one evening. Fabulous view. Still surprised we didn't get caught. Our trip to Statue of Liberty was very eh, because it was packed and our group began the ascent (view stairs) and got to the top of the pedestal before our director told us that was it because we had to get going. We got behind schedule and still had to go to other stuff. Boy, even the parents complained about that one. I had no problems with the city and the singing contest our choir was there for was very nice. Just the setup for the tour was not that well done and left a bad taste in my mouth. Several of us mention the trip when we see each other.
  18. Okay, this is minor but it's just weird. I posted in tonight's IGT last evening (or morning, I guess) and it stated that it was post #1984 on my BF account. Then, I posted this morning on the COCO entering the 9th inning thread and it stated that it was post #1969! Again, EZ board does not know how to count. This happened back when I was getting close to passing the 1000 post mark and it's happening again! I know there's nothing you can do about it, and post numbers are just a reference and not a contest (although some might beg to differ on that http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ) but it's obviously a bug in the ezboard software. I wonder what post number this one will be? Anyways, carry on. It's not a big deal but just wanted to see if anybody else notices this at all (especially when you near a "milestone" post number i.e. 1000, 2000, 10000, etc.)
  19. yep, nothing gets the blood pumping and focuses your energy as a pitcher like . . . . "Theme to Final Jeopardy". Does San Diego do a guess the attendence? If they do, they must do it in an earlier inning. In Milwaukee, guess the attendence has been a fixture for years, and almost always in the top of the ninth (actually, they used to show the 5 choices the previous half inning so you could ponder it for a half-inning, I suppose. Either that or, back in the day, it gave you an opportunity to count the people in the stands! I kid, I kid!) Maybe the Brewers could move it back a half inning or something. Yeah, I realize that it would then interfere with their contractual obligation to do the "Chicken Dance" but so what.
  20. numbers look pretty spot on to me when you guesstimate which innings the top and bottom parts of the lineup bat in normal games (i.e. games where the Brewers don't send 8 men to the plate in an inning five different times--like THAT would happen!)
  21. I just went to my tabbed bookmark of the forum and got on fine. Even posted for the first time in months.
  22. what lights go out in Petco? I've never seen or heard about that. I can understand turning off the scoreboards, etc. but the lights?!?! I didn't realize you could do that ala the way do at NBA arenas (i.e. turn the lights out for player intros and they come back on relatively quick).
  23. NICE final graphic! Almost woke my wife up laughing at it!
  24. hey, DHonks, Congrats on getting a teaching gig! Where you going to be at?
  25. the real question, assuming this story is even true, is what Doug Melvin did in response to those requests? Did he calmly and politely decline or did he laugh uncontrollably and just hang up the phone?
