  1. Why am I not seeing this reported anywhere else? I'm not saying it's false, but something with this magnitude you would expect to be on MLB.com, ESPN.com, etc.
  2. Yeah, I saw this about 20 minutes ago and a lump appeared in my throat pretty instantaneously. He was a good pitcher for the Dodgers and the Angels and A’s. But I will always picture him as a Brewer. RIP
  3. At his own home field, no less . . . .
  4. Man I feel old because I know exactly what play you are referring to. One of my favorite Packers games ever. Probably in my top 5. I would agree with this statement.
  5. I think the last time that I truly sat down and watched the whole series (I've seen bits and pieces over the years) was probably back in college in the 90s. My mom recorded it off PBS for me on old VHS tapes. The quality was poor, since I think these weren't brand new tapes, but dubbed over. Someday, I should probably watch it in HD (or at least some quality better than crummy VHS). I concur, though, it is excellent.
  6. I had a McRib back in college when they first came out. I got food poisoning from it. Hence, like wolves that have taste aversion for prey that made them sick, I , too, can not stand the McRib and have not had one since.
  7. Not a great drive there. The Packers seem to be sleepwalking through this one.
  8. So, in one of my leagues, I was fighting for the last playoff spot. I was playing the projected #1 seed in our regular season finale and was losing by almost 80 points going into last night's Dallas-Baltimore game. I had Lamar Jackson, Ezekiel Elliot, and the Baltimore defense. My opponent had Amari Cooper. By the fourth quarter, I had managed to be within striking distance, and midway through that same quarter, I got the score tied up, 179-179! And the Cowboys have the ball at the one! Yahoo!!!! Ezekiel Elliot up the middle. No gain. Ezekiel Elliot up the middle. No gain. Ezekiel Elliot up the middle. No gain. 1-yard TD pass to Amari Cooper. The TD also lowered my Baltimore defense score as a bonus. And Lamar was done passing and running, as they were just trying to run out the clock by that point. I lose, by seven. Man, the Cowboys suck. At least I'm firmly in the playoffs in my other 2 leagues.
  9. Amazing game, overall! Very entertaining and the type of game that kept even novice fans watching (maybe???) I am happy for Phillips and the Rays. I can't help but imagine how LAME the whole thing would have been had there been no fans and it was up to the whims of the ballpark PA guy running the crowd "machine."
  10. I live in a sub-division here in our sleepy Arizona town of 25,000+ Last night, I went to bed around 10 pm. From my bedroom, I could plainly hear music and people talking and laughing. I hadn't heard them all evening as I was in a different room in the house, with ambient noise (television, etc.) going on. But now, when I wish to go to sleep, I hear this noise. So, I go outside and see, in the backyard kitty-corner to our house, a party of about 10-12 adults. They're talking, laughing, singing, drinking, etc. Now, I love parties the same as many people do, but in a residential area after 10 pm, I found it kind of rude to be continuing to be loud. So, I approached their yard (we're divided by 7-foot tall cinder block walls in our neighborhood) and politely got their attention and asked if they could bring down the volume since it's after 10 pm and I could plainly hear them from my bedroom. Now, I asked them politely. They responded with anger and more rudeness, stating their rights to settle down and have some fun in their yard with friends. I didn't object to that. In fact, I told them that I'm all for that, with the exception of the common courtesy of bringing down the volume after normal bedtime hours. They continued to respond with rudeness, but they did turn the music down and agreed to move things inside. As I walked backed to the house, I plainly could hear several them say some NSFW word about me. But, whatever, they were quieter. I went back inside, crawled into bed and went to sleep. About 12:30 am, the music woke me up. And they were singing. Loudly (and quite off-key, LOL). Needless to say, I went back outside and chided them again. At first they thought I was going to come over and sing with them, but then they realized that I was not happy. Again, I never got angry but I did try to reason with them that this was unacceptable for 12:30 am OUTDOORS in a residential neighborhood. They did NOT like that (of course, someone decided to call me "Karen"--which I found funny since he appeared older than me.) They are, in their words, "dispatcher and paramedics that just want to wind down after a long week." I responded that that is completely fine, but not so loudly at 12:30 in the morning when you're outdoors in a residential area! And, again, more rudeness and name-calling. Thankfully, there was one nice girl that did try to listen to me and come to a compromise. It wasn't the homeowner, which I found extremely curious. She did get them to quiet down (after we shared a toast of some crap sparkling water alcohol canned-beverage--I took two sips to try to get some reasoning done.) Sometime in the next half hour, they shut down because someone else called the sheriff's office, it appears. I feel bad--and maybe a bit embarrassed--for acting the way that I did, even though I never really got mad. Mostly, I was just frustrated that they seemed to refuse to think they were doing anything wrong. I'm kind of thinking of going over later this afternoon and apologizing, maybe bringing a bottle of whiskey with me and seeing if they would like to bury the hatchet with a drink and see if we can come to a compromise for the future. Maybe I'm just dreaming that they'll be accepting of that. Rant over.
  11. My favorite point that I heard about last night came from Bob Costas and Harold Reynolds on "MLB Tonight," mentioning how Bob Gibson had an enormous and elaborate electric train set that went all over his house. They said that Gibson's setup put pretty much every electric train set-up in stores and museums to shame. I thought that was awesome!
  12. I have felt that Huira has turned into Willie Mays Hays in Major League II. He is trying to hit homers instead of just hitting the ball like last year. At least, that's the way it looks to my eyes.
  13. Uggg I hate all of these remastered games that are hitting the video game market. I get why people want them but it just seems very lazy to just rehash and resell a game with just improved graphics. There isn't really anything new being added to these games other than updated graphics. Believe me, I do understand what you are saying. This Mafia game is not a remaster, from what I've seen. They have changed a LOT. At least, that's what I've read in some articles and have seen in some videos. I guess time will tell. I plan on replaying the original and then the new version right after it. And I plan on having fun regardless. I may, however, wait a week or two and see some "final" reviews first. Anyway, gaming is good. That is all.
  14. The “Mafia: Definitive Edition” comes out this week, I believe. I am pretty excited. I used to play the heck out of that game, modded it up, and everything. Recently, I re-installed it with some modern mods and it looks great, but I’m excited to get my hands on this update. Please don’t suck.
  15. I heard on MLB Radio this morning that Verlander is of the Tom Brady mood—he intends to pitch until he’s 45 or so. They were positing that they surgery is just a pit stop and he should get another 5 years on his arm. Now, that’s all assuming everything goes well, no setbacks, and future health. I wish him the best of luck.
  16. Yeah, but those 150+ K's would fit right in with the team! Due to the avatar, I totally read this using Peter Griffin's voice. Well done!
  17. I thought there was some “event television” selection show with the top seeds picking whom they are playing. Or was this just something discussed but never officially made to happen? If it is, why the speculation of whom anyone would play?
  18. I'll say 9-7 IF they complete the season (which I have my doubts.)
  19. Whatever tonight’s Homeplate umpire is using to keep his glasses from fogging over.......I want some.
  20. This. I don't know if I'm allowed to say this or not but you guys realize that hader has pitched the equivalent of a no-hitter so far this season right? Ha ha! YES! I screamed out, "Josh Hader has thrown a no-hitter!" after the ground out to secure the 9 no-hit innings. My wife just rolled her eyes.
  21. This has bugged me the entire series. Why do the twins have an entire section from left field wall all the way to the top of the stadium in the upper deck untapped compared to the rest of the outfield stands?
  22. The thing is, we’ve done that before (Weeks, Fielder, Hardy, Hart, Braun to name a few.). And when we did that and had some success, all I’d read about is how we really need to focus on drafting good, young, controllable arms that we can depend on for years to anchor our staff. It’s just not easy to draft a great team. You really just draft what you can with the knowledge you have from scouting and you, literally, have to hope and pray from that moment forward that some of those players will blossom into major league players, never mind being superstars. Until the Brewers really put some focus into drafting — better scouts (is there such a thing????), more money to sign international players, and really, REALLY making sure (ha, like it’s that simple....) the players they draft are the right pick.
  23. So far, the computer crowd has to go on those shots from centerfield. It’s distracting as heck. I have been very disappointed with the utilization of the crowd noise in nearly every game I’ve watched so far. The lone star exception was last night’s Diamondbacks-Padres game. They had the crowd sound cranked and reacted well to balls put in play. It actually sounded like a full ballpark.
