  1. Nice to see I'm not the only one that has thought this.
  2. Maybe he met some blonde that has a gambler friend and Thames has been hanging around them a lot (parties, etc.) We just need to go to Wrigley and have Glenn Close stand up for him as the late afternoon sun shines through the ballpark and everything will be alright. Edit: this was supposed to be a quoted reply to someone's comment from page 1 about how Thames can go from so good in April to what he is now, but the quoted part didn't post for some reason.
  3. I've been wondering if Feliz is hiding an injury or something. Ever since the series in Toronto back in April when he was lights out and hitting "100" on the gun and looking awesome. But once they left Canada he hasn't been the same--and getting worse, it seems, every outing since.
  4. So last night the wife and I began our vacation by taking a red eye from Vegas to Milwaukee. I planned on getting a little sleep and relaxing. We were in row 1 of the plane and right behind us sat two older ladies who clearly had just met. So they were talking, which is no big deal. But one of the two was quite loud. Now, I had on a sleep mask and I always fly with ear Plugs so I put them in and tried to drift off to sleepyville Well it didn't work. The one loud lady got even louder once we were in the air. I could still hear her plain as day. I could not hear the plane engines but I could hear and understand her. At one point, I gave up and put music on some earbuds to drown her out, but I had to turn the volume up so high before I could not hear her anymore and it was hurting my ears so I abandoned that and went back to the earplugs. After making obvious glances at them (other passengers were doing the same evidently, as I heard others grumbling too) finally a flight attendant went up to them And asked them to quiet down so others could sleep. She responded that she didn't have to "shut up" and continued to talk loud with no consideration for others. Once we landed at 3:45 some others in the front of the plane then had to listen to her (and her new friend, who appeared quite intoxicated) berate all of us "expletives" for not understanding all their troubles and how we should be the ones to shut up. It got kind of heated. I'm happy to report that I did NOT get put on a "no fly list" or anything but, man, I've never seen somebody on a flight that thought they were so "in the right" when they clearly were not.
  5. THANK YOU! I've been telling my wife this for a little over a year now and she doesn't hear it. I'm glad that I'm not the only one that noticed this.
  6. We are done next Thursday and head to Wisconsin on a redeye that night. Excited to maybe get to a game or two
  7. I stayed up for the whole game last night and paid dearly for it at work today. And I live in Arizona so it was a bigger deal for me at least. Hopefully they'll build on this 5-0 lead tonight and I can go to bed early so I'm awake a lot more during the day tomorrow. Those little kids at school today drove me nuts because I really just wanted to take a nap.
  8. "This is Chuck, here to remind Bill to SHUT UP!" Cracks me up every time.
  9. My wife and I watch pretty religiously. Of course, earlier this season when they hit the skids a bit, I went to do some work on the computer while I had the game on a secondary television. (Full disclosure: it was playing video games, not work.) Anyway, the Brewers started playing well again and so now my wife makes me go play video games if the Brewers are losing or need a rally. Man, she's the greatest!
  10. I do. And it's mostly because of Marcus Thames who played in the majors about 5 years ago. His name is pronounced as TIMMS.
  11. My story is pretty much identical to hawing's. Except I was only 14 at the time so, obviously, not home on spring break. But, yeah, my dad was mowing the lawn and I was helping out by moving the stuff in the yard (hoses, chairs, etc.) out of his way. Had the transistor radio in my pocket and I went absolutely nuts when Deer homered and the Sveum homered. My dad had to stop the mower to find out what had happened. And then, almost instinctively, I, too, went to the old crappy boombox and recorded Pat Hughes and the 10th Inning Show on a cassette tape. Which I still have. But, unlike hawing, I HAVE already made mine into an mp3 and I listen to it often.
  12. Optimism! Optimism! Gotta love the start! And 5-0 on the Cubs tonight! Yay! "next to nothing from Shaw."--wait, what? I know his average and OBP are low but I think he's played more than adequately. 8 extra base hits, 9 RBI, heck his OPS+ is 96, barely below an average player. I mean, if he was hitting .200 with no extra base hits, 0 RBI, and was striking out 20+ times and grounding out weakly the rest of the time, okay then he'd be providing next to nothing. Still, it's great to see what the Crew has been doing and how active this thread has been in a year (heck, 2 weeks) that we thought would be quite miserable.
  13. I heard a commentator on ESPN on Opening Day use "bases drunk" on the air and kind of thought they weren't allowed to say that specific comment on the air. That said, I'm glad the bases are drunk for us right now. Assuming we score, of course.
  14. C'mon Brewers! 2 on now with 1 down! Tiring reliever . . . Let's go Jett!!!!
  15. I like BA a lot. His professionalism is perfect for me. His sense of humor is right up my alley. He doesn't overdo the humor, either, but it's clear (to me, at least) that he and Rock are like a couple of BFFs and feed off each other extremely well. Neither of them are the best in the business but together, they're quite a pair. I agree with someone about the "voice" thing. There are announcers (some PBP, mostly color guys [read as: former players]) that sound like the announcers you hear on a local radio broadcast of a high school football game. Except they sound better because they're using better equipment than the the local radio guys. And, sorry, I don't agree with the Tim Dillard sentiment. At least, not yet. I've heard his webcast stuff (funny, yes); I've heard him on some of those spring training webcasts. It's just not up to snuff--yet. I think that, yes, he clearly could end up in a Uecker-esque caliber of broadcasting, but not yet. He needs more practice at the minor league level or something. And definitely not for tv--I think he'd be far better for radio.
  16. You know, I've now watched two-and-four-ninths (2 4/9) games and I've seen a ton of fans wearing hats and other gear (shirts, etc.) of other teams besides the Brewers and Rockies. HOW DARE THEY COMMIT THIS TRAVESTY!!!!!!!
  17. VERSE Well, I count up the days in a winter haze Since the leaves began to fall. Now it won’t be long ‘til the sun comes shining through. When the camps start breakin,’ my spirits awaken To an irresistible call, Of an old American song that’s always new CHORUS And the robin is here, The sky is so blue. There’s a band, there’s music And the flags are flying, too. The grass is so green, It’s like never before, It’s Opening Day, I can be a kid once more. VERSE Now will the champs repeat in the summer heat? Will the races go down to the wire? In April ev’ry team has a chance to wear the ring. And there’s a rookie phenom Who tore up the farm, And the fans never seem to get tired Of chasing the dreams that dance in the air ev’ry spring. CHORUS Yeah, the robin is here, And the sky is so blue. There’s a band, and there’s music, The flags are flying, too. The grass is so green, It’s like never before, Yeah, it’s Opening Day, I can be a kid once more. BRIDGE So open the gates And let the people in. Let the games begin. And may the home team always win!
  18. What if the guy is wearing the "T" Texas Rangers hat because he's the coach of his son's little league team called the "Rangers"? And maybe he was running late, heading over to Miller Park straight from practice or even a little league game and didn't have a chance to change hats? Overall, yes, the opinions are great. And everyone is entitled to them. However, several people have the opinion that others are forcing THEIR opinions on them as well as stating those opinions to be facts. And I think that's where the problem lies therein. This thread started out really great, and a lot of good opinions were stated throughout the thread. It's the semi-condescending opinions that have brought the discussion down. Thankfully, there are several posters here with the brevity to bring some humor to the situation or this thread would've been closed long ago. I think it's a great topic and has had great discussion. Opinions are fine. And we're all entitled to them. But, please, keep things civil and refrain from telling people they are wrong because they don't align with your thoughts. Thank you! **cue the next post saying, "You're wrong."** heh, heh!
  19. I'll play. Longest win streak 5 games. Longest losing streak 7 games.
  20. This made me spit my beer all over my keyboard! Thanks for the laugh!
  21. Sorry for bringing up an old topic, but I finally saw "The Revenant" tonight (yeah, I'm a bit slow on getting to films--sue me) and I thought it was outstanding. Contrary to what others here thought, I thought that the 2 1/2 hours flew by. It was an enjoyable film, to me. I will agree with one other person, however, in that the whole "flashback" stuff with his wife could have been cut down a bit. I can see keeping some of it, as I understood the purpose, but it was a bit too many times. Oh, and all the 10-second "moonrise" shots. Okay, Mr. Director, you like sunset shots with the moon. Great. Do we need to see it every time the movie goes to night time? And for 10 seconds at a pop? But, yeah, I loved it otherwise.
  22. Pretty well played game from both squads, overall. The refs blew tickey-tack fouls early and often and then swallowed whistles (or just missed calls) later on. It wasn't the best game by the stripes. Glad to see the Badgers pull it off, though. Nice to see Bucky last for another week.
