  1. I always wanted to buy a hat from each MLB club. I thought it would be neat. This was back when I was in college. I know a lot more now. That idea wasn't a good one. Mostly from a fiscal standpoint as a college student. That said, I say go for it. You can like other teams--there's nothing wrong with that. Obviously, though, you can only LOVE one team and hopefully people could understand the difference between the two.
  2. I got 15 of 24 correct, which is considerably better than last year's abysmal 5-correct evening. A friend got 19 of 24 correct.
  3. So, are you guys saying that Opening Day will be reminiscent of Opening Day in "Major League" with a gathering of people and a whole lot of empty seats?
  4. I remember Baseball Bunch... and they never had a Brewer. Had OZzie Smith though... Wrong. They had an episode with Ted Simmons showing how to switch hit. Of course, I instantly went outside to try it after the episode aired.
  5. Sometimes Tony Kubek, too.
  6. I always loved those days in the 80s where they'd play "This Week in Baseball" on the scoreboard at County Stadium about an hour before game time. Trying to figure out what you're watching half the time was only made better if you had happened to see the episode on television ahead of time.
  7. I, too, am a (20-game) season ticket holder. And I live in Arizona year round. Let that sink in for a minute. I pay every year and don't attend a single game. However, my wife's family uses the tickets, traveling from Appleton each time. They do reimburse me for two-thirds of the cost every year. It is nice, though, that as a trade-off with them, I get dibs on playoff and World Series tickets. So, in 2011, we had the (refundable) airline tickets bought and were set to go to the series until, well, you know. The perks are great. I know they always like the concession stand coupons, the SSH appreciation days/nights at the ballpark, the great ability to trade in tickets for other nights without fees, etc. And guaranteed seats for playoffs, etc. is a plus. Oh, I believe I was able to buy One Direction seats for my niece before the general public. Their seats were pretty unbelievable and I was the coolest uncle ever as a result. I am greatly appreciating that in June, I should be able to call my ticket rep (Nate for the win!) on the stitch and pitch night and ask him . . ."Say, my wife and mom are going to sit in the stitch and pitch section but I don't want to sit with them and the other stitchers. What do you got that I can get as a single?" Chances are quite high that I'll be sitting in some VERY nice seats, at a discount. I understand that Season Tickets are not for everyone. And I can certainly see RickH150's point of view. Nobody's right and nobody's wrong. It just comes down to each individual's choice. Spring training starts next week! Yay!
  8. I'd like another shot at Atlanta, personally. But at the same time, I'd also like to beat Seattle at their place like we should have a couple of years ago. I'm still bitter.
  9. Why were there only three designs to choose from? Am I misremembering in years past that were something like 8 or 9 designs to choose from?
  10. This is why, when out in public, I almost exclusively just use a stall. Inside my little cubicle, I can do things however I want without others peeking around at my business.
  11. I'm looking into trying that Playstation streaming service. As a PC gamer (don't own any consoles, unless you count my old Sega Saturn), I've always wanted to have Rockstar Games put Red Dead Redemption on PC. Since I don't think that's ever going to happen, I guess I could stream the game to my PC and play it that way. Anybody have any experience with their service? (Can't think of what it's called. . . Playstation Now? is that it?)
  12. I think a lot of that stems from the fact that those of us that were alive (and cognizant of the moment) it was a big deal. Milwaukee hadn't had a pennant winner in 25 years and the Packers were pretty much a nothing team at that time so everyone was so desperate for a winner. And, on paper, they were the clear favorite to win it all. We treated those players like gods, even in defeat, because they gave us so many memories. Yes, I agree, they were not the greatest team in baseball history. But if you speak to just about any player from that team, they will say it was clearly the best experience they've ever had in their careers. I mean, how many teams lose a championship and still get 500,000 people to show up for a parade afterwards. Heck, how many even get the parade? We genuinely LOVED that team. On topic, I don't see the problem with the new logo but I also don't see the problem with a decision to focus the team's look on the old ball-and-glove logo. When they ditched it back in '93 or so, it was probably one of the worst decisions made by the front office in team history. It was Jeffrey Hammonds-bad. It was Sal Bando GM-bad. It was Mark Kotsay in CF in the NLCS-bad. I like the new logo and I like the old ball-and-glove. I found it very telling last season when the starting pitchers were selecting ball-and-glove themed jerseys a heck of a lot more than the barley and gold logo. About the only one to regularly chose that one was Chase Anderson. I'd be happy to see them continue flip-flopping, since it's more merchandising revenue for the club.
  13. I had not known Thames was in Korea, nor that he had done so well over there. I knew that he used to play in the big leagues and was an "okay" 5th outfielder type. Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll have one of those Cecil Fielder resurgences like back in 1990 or so.
  14. I, too, have wondered this. I brought it up at our fantasy football owners meetings and was scoffed at by most people but I thought it was completely valid. I'm pretty sure if I was coaching, I'd be doing what Tomlin does, as well--go for 2 a lot.
  15. I know that this is not CBA-related, but count me in with the crowd of people that wished that an umpire (likely the crew chief) was mic'ed up for every game to tell the crowd what in the heck they are reviewing and explaining things a bit more. It works very well with football and I'm pretty sure it would solve a whole lot of "wha?" and "huh?" reactions from the in-stadium crowds and the television viewing audience (not to mention the broadcasters) because nobody knows what's going on with some reviews. Notice that not ALL reviews would need this but there are a LOT of times that they review stuff and everyone is wondering what they are checking.
  16. Well, two three-and-outs to start things off. Not great . . .
  17. Question I have is, if the Brewers don't win a championship until well into the late 21st century and even into the 22nd, will there be stories, etc. about how THEY'VE gone 100+ years without a title? I suppose it would all depend on how many (if any) "heart-breaking" losses they have over that span, eh?
  18. Sorta fun game tonight, for a game seven. Just not the result I was looking for.
  19. Hey, at least we're not the Browns . . . .
  20. This has been a fascinating discussion. Re: limiting calling time as the batter to one/two times per at bat, what if a batter has used his allotment of timeouts and a wasp/gnat/guy in the stands with a laser pointer/etc. distracts the batter? He can't call time and just has to grin and bear it? I don't think so. As for the limiting throws to first base on pick off attempts, what if, after reaching the allotment of throws, the runner can only go so far as some pre-chalked line on the infield or the edge of the infield grass? Yeah, it's kind of "softball-esque" with their double bases at first but it would at least limit a runner from just getting some 50 foot lead.
  21. Well, "the cubs losing the series after doing absolutely NOTHING at home for three straight games" is looking pretty good right now.
  22. Man, this is just fun to watch. 7-1 now.
  23. Nice come back by the Giants. And then I said to my wife just watch all the drama will be a erased by the Cubs and *wham* homer by Bryant
  24. I'm not disputing Mathews and Schmidt but Brooks Robinson is probably in that discussion as well.
