  1. I know everybody likes to rip on the guy, but he did just homer to give us the lead. Yay Brewers! edit: Cue "Blind Squirrels Find Nuts" photos and gifs.
  2. I'm already in 3 leagues as it is, but I kinda giggled at least three times when I read the thread title. "Does he mean he wants people who are very dedicated individuals to making the league great or does he mean he want no shenanigans or joking around in this league [cue picture of 8 or 9 stern men from the early 1900s sitting around a table]? I haven't checked yet, but you may want to inquire at LambeauLeap.net as well.
  3. Perhaps with Tim Hudson going down the Braves will be interested.
  4. oh, great. He wears uniform #8. We're doomed.
  5. well, this kind of put a bummer on my day. It's almost like there was an accident in my family--just kind of leaves a stunned hole in your heart. I don't worship players at all, but I do "worship" my team. And when a big stunner "news event" happens with my team, it hits me kinda hard. Thoughts as I sat out in the sun, reading Baseball Weekly and listening to the Baseball Network . . . 1) So, was his 2012 season, arguably better than his 2011 MVP season, tainted as well? Or is that what we should, more or less, expect from him in the future. 2) (somebody else mentioned something similar . . .) Wouldn't it be great if Braun played in 2014 for "free" or at a reduced salary, with the money going to charity or something? At least spin a positive out of it? 3) The ambiguity of Braun's statement really doesn't specify anything about Braun's transgressions. It could have been from 2011. It could have been the Biogenesis stuff. It could be from something completely unrelated. We won't know, for sure, until Braun specifically addresses it. And that might not happen until he retires and does a tell-all book or something (for all we know.) 4) Spring Training 2014 should at least be interesting and have plenty more media coverage than normal. For once. So what if it's for the reason it is. Just seems like the Brewers get so little spring training coverage (short of the MLB 30 Clubs in 30 Days thing). 5) (Others have mentioned this as well . . . ) At least he came clean and admitted he made a mistake. Probably every human being, at one time or another, has been guilty of something and lied about it (for an extended time, too) only to finally be proven guilty, resulting in an admission of guilt. It could be as simple as a 7-year old breaking a lamp and claiming "It wasn't me!" to as elaborate as some double-murder bank-heist. Initially, we are all, probably, a little shocked and disappointed in Ryan. But we've all been in his shoes, in our own ways. We will now see how much of a man he really is by how he faces this adversity and deals with it. Go Brewers!
  6. I sort of envision Bryce Harper coming down on his dad for just throwing him cut fastballs all night. "Jeez, dad, I coulda won this thing if you'd throw me some meatballs." "Son, you took 500 swings every day for five days a week every week for years for a reason. You don't get better hittin' meatballs." "Dad, I'm IN the majors now. Give me a break." (this whole scene would be like the Seinfeld episode when George is hitting home run after home run at Yankee Stadium during BP and Jeter and others are trying to tell George to relax: "C'mon, George, lay off us. We just won the World Series." George, sarcastically, " . . . in six games . . . .") Obviously, nothing like this probably happened between Bryce and his dad but these are the things that I think of at 12:30 at night.
  7. it's my fault. I'll shoulder the blame.
  8. yeah, I can't see any real reason to be sitting them very often. I understand that there are risks and either one could get seriously hurt at any moment of any game. But that's the chance they take when they play everyday. We could moan all day, "why didn't they sit him?!?!?" if something were to happen, but "thems the breaks" I say.
  9. The wife and I were all set to come down for all four games from Kingman, but decided not to. Having the A/C in the Honda need repair a month ago kind of took our baseball trip money away. Have fun, though! I'll be watching on tv (the D-Backs guys, ugh [although not as bad anymore with no more Sutton/Grace combo] with Uecker on the MLB audio) while sitting on the porch in the stadium seats while the misting fans blow on me. When it gets dark, I'll fire up the fire pit and have a few beers while I listen.
  10. It a'int just Milwaukee. It's become pretty universal. Heck, I'd venture to guess that the people who use turn-signals and know the rule of "right-of-way" are now in the minority of drivers.
  11. um, it's got LeBron pretending to be Jordan staring into another O'Brian Trophy. Seriously, I spent 15 minutes on the Uecker article and maybe 10 minutes on the rest of the issue. The Rushin article about baseball names at the end of the issue is pretty good, too.
  12. I was kind of surprised that I didn't hear about this sooner (especially on this site which seems to report ANYTHING Brewer related), but to my surprise last night, there was a very nice 6-8 page story on one Mr. Baseball in this past week's issue of Sports Illustrated. A very good read and even some "new" stuff that I hadn't heard before.
  13. love the face on the blond little girl standing up in the front row by the left edge of the video. She is just in awe.
  14. keep in mind that several players, it seems, bow out of starting spots each season after the starters have been announced. Gomez or Segura could slip into the starting lineup that way instead.
  15. I remember the day of the trade because the Brewers just happened to be on Monday Night Baseball on ABC that night and they had an interview with Harvey Kuehn regarding the trade during the pre-game show. That's where I learned of the trade and I remember being pretty shocked. (This is, obviously, pre-internet days, folks, so I didn't know about it until game time. Of course, some of you younglings are still stuck on the "Monday Night Baseball on ABC" reference.)
  16. 2 @ Phi 0-2 3 vs Oak 1-2 4 vs Phi 2-2 3 @ Mia 2-1 3 @ Cin 1-2 3 @ Hou 3-0 3 vs Atl 1-2 3 vs Chi 2-1 3 @ Pit 1-2 13-14
  17. We stayed in Binghampton and just drove up each day. It was a pleasant 30 minute drive to Cooperstown from there. I believe we ate at the Doubleday Cafe each day as it was pretty good food. The Beef Speede sandwich (or something like that) was phenominal.
  18. they showed on MLB tonight Nelson clearly mouthing, "It's not my fault." And I guess I don't blame him. Who in their right mind would think the pitcher would cut the throw off? Nelson is using his ears for the ball-in-glove sound vs. spike-on-base sound. It's actually a pretty funny play.
  19. my cousin and I did a Cooperstown or Bust road trip over spring break back in college. (yeah, other college kids go to warm, happening, party places. We go to Cooperstown.) We spent 3 days in the museum, reading anything and everything that we could. It was a great trip. We even got our Pursue the Pennant game out and played our league's Hall of Fame game inside the plaque gallery. It was pretty neat. I wholeheartedly agree that the town is a tourist trap, but it also is home to the Hamburger Hall of Fame, so there you go.
  20. I find it amusing to see to Lohse getting frustrated with umpires while out on the mound. He's finally seeing that, as a non-Cardinal player, he's not getting the calls that he has the last couple of years. Maybe he's seeing the light that STL is held to a different standard than the Milwaukee Brewers, regardless of any reputation that he might have. Either that or Yadier Molina was THAT good at framing pitches.
  21. something I thought of this afternoon, for whatever reason . . . . I was under the impression that we'd finally see who was filming this documentary at the end of this season. I know that the characters said it was PBS. Was that the "reveal" or did I miss something about who was the director, etc? Maybe I'm thinking too much.
  22. I, too, was at game 3. McGee hit TWO homers in the game and made a catch at the wall, right in front of me (I'm in the photo in Sports Illustrated in which he makes the great catch.) I was only 9 & 11 months at the time but I remember getting a ball during BP (we sat in the bleachers), there was a marching band and cheerleaders on the field for pre-game, Andujar got drilled with a line drive and Vuckovich pitched pretty poorly. I didn't get to the ALCS as my dad only put in for WS tickets, but I remember watching game 5 earnestly on television because I REALLY wanted to go to the Series.
  23. everytime I see that picture of the cards (no need to capitalize) celebrating on our field, I notice the scoreboard was completely turned off and wonder why they didn't turn the stadium lights out on them as well.
  24. Yeah, pretty enjoyable. Low on the humor meter but it wasn't needed. Not that it wasn't funny--it was. Just in a different way.
  25. only if I say it is. I may choose to wait until tomorrow to watch it or something.
