  1. I could handle paying 1982 prices for my 2014 season tickets! As for the actual drawing, I have no idea how they do it. I recall talking to my ticket rep about it last year and he told me that the majority of the winners are companies that have full season ticket packages to use for clients. He said that, so far, it has been rare when an individual PERSON has won any of the prizes. I would assume that if a company wins the prize then either that company's rep wins or they hold an in-house drawing with their company members to see who wins it.
  2. that's quite the list! Although it seems like the majority are backups and minor leaguers.
  3. I think it would a travesty, but really neat (i.e. cool), if Maddux was not elected in 2014 so he, Glavine, and Smoltz could all be elected together. Yes, I know Glavine is on the ballot in 2014 as well, but I don't think he's a 1st ballot elect as Maddux should be.
  4. I've moved it to the proper location.
  5. just had my ISP over here to check on connections and stuff. Replaced the modem, which was dying anyways. We now have speeds in the 6 Mbps range! Wooooo, lightning fast internet again! I've forgotten what it looks like. (well, not really lightning fast but compared to what it was . . . )
  6. yeah, that speed I posted was my "wired" DSL connection. Absolutely terrible.
  7. funny, I just did one of these today. I received a grade of "F+" and a "faster than 1% of US". Good lord is our DSL slow here.
  8. I'm a dad of a 3rd grader and this incident hit me especially hard. Those poor kids and teachers and their families didn't deserve this. It's hard to think about anything else. JimH5, my post wasn't meant to be self-centered or anything. I felt terrible for most of the afternoon after I found out about it at lunch break today. To be a teacher today is no easy task. And as an elementary teacher, this hit incredibly close to home. You're absolutely right that these families and teachers do not deserve this at all. And, really, nobody that suffers something senseless like this deserves it. Ever. I couldn't imagine what it must be like for these people. And, more so, for the kids that survived the incident. I'd have to venture a guess that most of the kids would not want to EVER go back to that school. At least for a little while. My final comment will have to be posted on the political BF site.
  9. as a teacher of young children the episode that happened today just scares the crap out of me.
  10. Easily his best call IMO. That was my ringtone for like a year after it happened. haha It's STILL my ringtone. Can't get enough of it.
  11. well, this turns into an insta-buy for me now, I think. Thanks for the heads-up! Any other info? Do the other game disks have this radio-TV stuff with it as well? How's the quality of video?
  12. I'll second the recommendation on this book. An outstanding and interesting read. It sounds like a pretty slow, dull read but very enlightening. I picked it up a few years ago and couldn't put it down at times.
  13. good Lord, I made it through about 40 of those submissions. They are all terrible. I appreciate the ones that were obviously made by kids but the rest of those are just . . . . ewwwww.
  14. I thought that service is free but I could be wrong. It's probably "free" with some hidden fees involved in the fine print. But I do believe you get free Starz or something for 3 months when you move.
  15. Oh, really? I was unaware of that! Now I'm really looking forward to seeing the voting results. By the way, the way MLB Network has announced the winners has been so dull. The secretary of the BBWAA just opens the envelope and reads it, showing the card to the camera, in some plain-jane monotone. No hype, no buildup, no nothing. Yawn. I thought it would have been neat to have the candidates in-studio or via satellite like they do at the Oscars or something to see reactions and get a quick speech/interview done on the spot after winning.
  16. I can see that happening. Zero first place votes, that is. But ESPN's total is only 28 votes, and I thought there are 32 voters. Maybe I'm wrong. If I'm right, however, I wonder who else ESPN believes will get first place votes. Either way, I just hope Braun doesn't finish last because of pettiness of writers. They were the ones that brought the Braun story out in the open in the first place. NOBODY should have even known about it at all. And had it gone down the way is should have, I'd be very interested to know how the voting would go then. Braun would still likely finish 2nd but it'd be much closer. I still think Posey wins in a landslide.
  17. I'm looking forward to this news! I've already got a few ideas but I wonder what the official contest rules will stipulate. Probably have to be a Wisconsin resident or something like that. Darn it all if it's true.
  18. not to mention Reyes playing SS on turf for 81 home games after being a primarily grass/dirt player for his career is not going to help him out with staying healthy.
  19. I guess that all depends on what you mean by "regular" posting. Obviously, there are probably several hundred lurkers each and every day but posting is another story. You have those people that "regularly" post by posting on just about each and every thread they can. You also have people like me, that "regularly" post when they feel like they can contribute but otherwise just lurk for the most part.
  20. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8604797/miguel-cabrera-detroit-tigers-four-others-finalists-line-al-mvp Finalists named for the awards. I'm not sure I like this but I'm not surprised that they're doing it this way for the first time. As for NL MVP, it looks like Posey wins with Braun or McCutchen finishing 2nd. If Headley finishes in the top 3 something is wrong.
  21. Spoilers may be included below . . . . pretty intense episode (I finally watched it last night.) And pretty grisly as well. The ending was kind of a let down as I was hoping Carl wouldn't pull the trigger and get eaten by a quickly turned mother. Or the baby would be a stillborn and turn inside the womb and eat it's way out. But I guess this was probably the best way. I don't watch the previous nor read the comic so I don't know what happens next. I'm excited to find out!
  22. no, thank you. Non-DH baseball is boring to me, or at least not as interesting. Boring is probably the wrong term.
  23. Nah, cast Hamill, Fisher, Ford, etc as there original characters in episode 7 as old people one with the force and make new heroes from there. Maybe their kids or something.
  24. I saw the uniforms on another website that leaked everything. I'm not sure that I like the uniforms. They look very 60s with a modern twist, such as it is. I'll try to find the link. argh. can't find it anymore. It was posted in the shoutbox on another website and it has scrolled past it now to the point that it is unrecoverable. The letters were like a golden yellow all caps ASTROS, I remember that much. And the uniforms came in a white, grey, blue, and orange varieties. It was actually one of those uniform template pages that also show the style and color of the letters and numbers on the back of the uniforms. Drat, I wish I could still find that!
  25. *sigh* 107 days until pitchers and catchers report.
