  1. yeah, if Jamie Moyer can pitch until he's 49 with his soft tossing stuff, Wolf should at least be able to come back and try to make a team. What does he have to lose?
  2. I can sort of understand the rationale behind it (i.e. "team-building" etc.) but this seems to have extremely poor planning used to implement it. Coaches jumping over players? In the near dark? As the players are sliding into them??? 40- and 50- year old men???? Jumping over guys???? The article sure explains a lot about the Pirates . . . .
  3. I read that article. Olney did not say that the Brewers ARE front runners for Hamilton. It said that the Brewers COULD be in the running for Hamilton. Mostly, based on Johnny Narron being on the Brewers.
  4. I'm waiting for the complaining Cardinal fans, "Well no wonder the Giants won. We had to bat in a freakin' monsoon! Just took all the momentum from our 10-run game-winning rally that WOULD have happened."
  5. I'd really be curious to see the quality of these. Considering I have a copy of each of these games on DVD already (some duplicated from VHS, some from the DVR), it'd be a worthwhile investment if the quality is better than what I already have.
  6. Tonight's Zito performance was very Randy Wolf-esque from last year. Similar in so many ways and circumstances. Kinda eerie. Hope the Giants change the outcome.
  7. got to the premiere tonight. Man, quite a gore-fest but also some really good action and entertainment. The end of the episode wasn't too much of a surprise but it was done really well.
  8. Don't the Braves/Blue Jays share a spring training site? Or maybe they used to? Or perhaps theirs are very close to each other? I figured that is why there is that "rivalry."
  9. Okay, I'll bite. Why? And what "value" that you could realistically hope to get in return would you consider equal to, or better than, Braun's value at his (relatively) ridiculously low salary? I just can't see it. probably the same kind of big return of prospects we got in the Greg Vaughn trade. No, no, wait. Braun's a future possible Hall of Famer .. . . . the haul we got in the Gary Sheffield trade would be a better equivalent . . .
  10. Thought about this on Sunday while driving home from church . . . Had the Brewers won the pennant last year, beating the Cardinals and sending them to the Worlds Series, would the crowd have just cheered as normal and such or would they have stormed the field ala 1982? What do you think? I'm guessing that the police would have intervened as best as possible but some people would have attempted to re-create that iconic moment in Brewer history. I don't think that hundreds would have made it but I bet some would have. That would have been cool, however, had they done it (win the pennant, that is. Okay, storm the field as well.)
  11. I guess I would keep Axford (due for a turnaround or a complete Turnblow experience; my money's on the former), Henderson, Kintzer, and perhaps Veras (I know he hasn't been spectacular but he's been better than Loe; plus he had career worsts in WHIP and H/9 while still pitching his 2nd best career ERA+ season. I think he'd be worth the gamble that he bounces back as well.) I really don't see K-Rod returning to the Brewers. It could happen, yes, and I would take him but I'm just not seeing him do it unless he takes a discount or something because he knows we'll be a contender in '13.) Otherwise, find some cheap relievers over the winter and/or the minors.
  12. Darwin Barney's consecutive errorless game streak ended Friday night when he made an error in the 8th inning. He was 3 outs away from setting a new MLB record for consecutive errorless games and now, instead, shares the record with Placido Polanco. Ouch.
  13. well, here we go. It's either the beginning of the end or the start of something really special. Brew Crew, you know what you gotta do!
  14. yeah, that's what I'm hoping for, too. (oops, didn't do it in CAPS) YEAH, THAT'S WHAT I'M HOPING FOR, TOO. THAT FEELS BETTER! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BREWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
  15. okay, this really sucks for me. I'm in supervising the detention room and turn on gameday and see K-Rod pitch well. So, I was surprised when they brought Henderson in but happy to see him work without an issue. I turn it off after that because it was time for me to leave and go to lunch. I tell my wife that the Brewers had won 1-0! So excited! Then a half hour later, I come here to see reaction and see the post in the "2nd Half Optimism" thread by torts and say, "What?!?!?" And sure enough, they had lost 2-1. I'm sitting there staring at the screen. "Gameday said Henderson struck out the last guy! Did he reach on a wild pitch or something?" And then I look again and see it. I had assumed K-Rod was in the 8th and Henderson in the 9th and the game was over. What a fool I am. Crushing to read this, folks, just crushing.
  16. Not disagreeing with you but I did find it interesting that before last night, the Crew had not lost consecutive games in well over a month! Pretty hard to do.
  17. I said it in an IGT, but, to me, it sounded like some howler monkeys escaped from the zoo and took in a ballgame.
  18. wow, I honestly had no idea he was still alive! My condolences. I remember my folks had several Christmas albums with his stuff on it. I believe I even have a few of his bigger hits somewhere in my music collection. Quite a singer! RIP
  19. well, we told ourselves that we would wait until Sunday and see how the road trip was progressing before making our decision to buy or not. A 5-1 start to the trip has, already, been more than expected so I submitted payment 5 minutes ago. Looking forward to other people attending the games. Here's hoping they make it to the World Series this year so I can attend!
  20. As great as the top half the inning was, the bottom of the inning has not been fun to watch thus far.
  21. in an average game, I'd venture to estimate that 10,000+ fans are "off" in their depth perception of a fly ball and how well it's going to carry. It's not like BA is some blind guy in the booth who has no clue. Probably half the population would do the same. Heck, Ueck still has trouble at times and he's been doing this stuff for 42 years and counting. Vin Scully, too. Personally, I don't have an issue with it. So he's not perfect. I'm not either. And neither are you. (That's EVERYBODY I'm singling out, by the way.)
  22. I was going to come here and post about all the howler monkeys at the ballpark tonight, but apparently you guys already covered that. As for BA and his depth perception, remember that the TV booth at PNC is literally on top of the stadium. It hangs higher than the top row of the upper deck. So, I'll excuse it.
  23. well, I'm pretty sure Brandon Phillips will have something to say about that if the Cardinals are still in jeopardy regarding their playoff spot. My money is on Phillips telling Dusty that they should be playing all out to knock those jokers out of the playoffs.
