  1. I'm not sure how to put into words of my first impression. I know the guy had to be nervous, even just a bit. My wife said it sounded a bit like Jim Paschke when he did Brewers TV--not great but not terrible; a voice that was kind of just "there." I wasn't impressed nor was I put off by the guy. I guess I'll have to reserve judgement for now. Ask me again in June or so. (Unlike Provus, whom I had an opinion pretty quickly.)
  2. I said a lot of that stuff back in October. People were pleased as punch to be playing the Cardinals in the NLCS--it was the one thing that I dreaded the most. I just knew that, if we lost to the Cards (which we did) it would end up biting us in the ass. And, yes, to me, the winter was a long letdown because of it. Sure, I'm happy with what they accomplished last year and still get tears in the eyes remembering a lot of the moments. But the way it all finished up--and then the whole Braun escapade on top of it--just tarnished the whole thing for me. Yeah, it might be "sour grapes" a bit, but it's how I feel. It's like the Reds probably felt winning the division and all in 2010 and then, in their first post-season game they get no-hit. It's just one of those things that makes you scream--inwardly or outwardly--that "this isn't how it's supposed to be!!!" As for 2012, I'm excited to see how things play out. Will we play 90-win baseball? Will we pull a Reds and kind of fall flat the following season? Can we just get that wild-card? Will someone get hurt for the year early on (pull a Wainright) and will it affect the team or will they persevere and win anyways? It's all part of the plan. We just haven't seen the ending yet.
  3. My wife and I make our predictions every year on the fly. "And the Oscar goes to . . . " we hit pause on the DVR and make our guess and then hit play to see the winner and keep tallies from there. I started off 4 for 4 and 6 of 7 but slowed down to a crawl and finished 12 of 24. I would have hit about 16-17 had I went with my gut instincts on "Hugo" more often. Considering that I saw ONE of the nominated movies in ANY category (Harry Potter), I thought that was pretty good guesswork.
  4. it's nowhere near I Love Lucy, All In the Family, Andy Griffith, Cheers, MASH, the Simpsons, or Seinfeld in the lexicon of television history. It IS a very good show but it is a step-cousin when comparing to those that you listed. Four to five years after it's gone, it will be in the good graces of most, but will not be remembered as a "best ever."
  5. yeah, this was a fun way to spend the afternoon. Great win by Bucky! On the road. Could be a springboard to some March Sensationalism.
  6. thing is, it's not just you guys. In 15 years of NW Arizona living, this is by far the mildest winter we've had. Very few days in the 30s/nights in the 20s or teens. Most of the winter has been in the 40s and 50s. Which is unprecedented.
  7. looking forward to seeing your shots

  9. SOOOOO disappointed that they took the "girl tries to get Jim" angled story-line.
  10. boy it is sure tempting to take tomorrow off and head down to Maryvale to cheer on Braunie's arrival at camp! I literally had tears welling up when reading this news at school today. Really made my day. The whole story sure is interesting, though. I'm excited to see how it all plays out from here. I wonder when or if we will EVER find out the E! True Hollywood Story of this event.
  11. got a link to the other regions? we all don't care about the "big" schools
  12. I don't really mean to bump this thread, but with Spring Training here now, it's still nice to see that MLB Network named this game the #2 game of the 2011 Post-Season overall. Thought that was pretty neat every time I'd see that on their countdown shows over the off-season.

  14. I don't think I could stand watching baseball again without the strategy of double-switches and things like that. That is one of the best parts of having the pitchers hit--watching managers squirm about making a change in mid- to late-ball games.
  15. we did direct deposit through our school district once upon a time. There were errors about every other month so we ditched it.
  16. it's usually to verify it. I understand what you mean, though. I just got back from our district office to pick up my wife's and my paychecks. They absolutely refused to release her check, even though we are on each other's accepted list of whom can pick up a check. Ticked me off like you wouldn't believe and stormed out of there. Probably will get "spoken" to about it but I don't care. They're also going to be getting an amended list of people that pick up my check--including such dignitaries as Babe Ruth, Bugs Bunny, and Stanley Roper.
  17. I ended up passing on the woot treadmill--this time. It gives me more time to research rather than make a spur-of-the-moment buy just because it was a good deal and then be "disappointed" over this or that had I researched better. However, by the time woot puts it up again (in a woot-off, I would assume) I should be better educated on it and might be able to pull the trigger at that time.
  18. heh, too funny! A treadmill up on woot today. Anybody want to give any advice on that thing? $600 is a steal of a price, as is the $5 shipping. But based on the comments by woot users it seems almost too good to be true, perhaps?
  19. and, of course, the ESPN headline says "Brewers, RHP Vargas submit bids to arbitration" Nice reporting . . .
  20. Um, the Mariners are already underway, so to me Spring Training is HERE!
  21. I thought I had read that he was REALLY excited to play in Miami in front of Cuban fans. Maybe his thoughts changed on the subject?
  22. wow, I did NOT see that one coming from anywhere at all. Oakland was probably THE last team I would have guessed would be in on him. It sure seemed like Miami was going to get him.
  23. I would call what currently started last night as "season 2.5" as it's the 2nd half of the 2nd season. Season 1 started in October 2010 and lasted something like 6 episodes. Season 2 started in October 2011 and was something like 8-10 episodes.
  24. This is kind of nice to see. My wife and I were thinking of perhaps spending some of our tax return on something like this because it's so bleeding hot to get a walk in during the summer months. Even at 7:30 pm or so, when we would usually stroll as the sun sets, it would routinely be over 100 degrees yet. 7:30 am would also be over 90 so that was out, too. Glad to see some ideas from others!
  25. Ron Swanson: "I'd like to thank each and every one of you for being here this morning." Leslie Knope: "Ron, wow. I'm glad to see such enthusiasm." Ron Swanson: "I was talking to these ribs." *CRUNCH* Man, I gotta try something like that at a staff meeting.
