  1. pickles (sweet, dill, gerkins), olives (black, green, garlic-stuffed), cheese (cubes, curds, slices), meat (sliced, nuggets, smoked, jerky), and then something sweet like little cookies or petit-forts or something. Okay, that's all I got. (toolive, that's too funny!)
  2. I'm hesitant to even comment, but, if it's true, I'll be happy to see us get another top pitcher. At what price will be determined in two-to-three years, though, so it makes me wary if it is worth it in the long run. From what I've read, it sounds like Odorizzi is the real deal; an ace that we've been waiting to come through our system. Jeffress could still become a very good pitcher. I like Cain alot and Escobar is still learning (although his Winter League numbers leave a lot to be desired when placed on top of his 2010 MLB line.) I don't know. I'm excited about this kind of an offer but I'm also very nervous that, down the line, it could blow up in our face. I guess if your Doug Melvin, this is the kind of move that HAS to be made, though. And I AM a Brewer fan so I HAVE to be happy that they're trying to make an effort to win rather than have a goal of .500 for the year. I guess we shall see what happens on Monday (or Tuesday, Wednesday, or any other day next week, really.)
  3. I played and finished Bioshock for the PC back in November. It's old news but it was still fun.
  4. I see the Metrodome roof caved in last night/this morning. No word on just deflated due to the weight of the snow or torn off the building and into the stadium bowl itself.
  5. to me, they're awesome and heavenly. They make me homesick. Keep 'em coming as the storm gathers strength.
  6. any pictures yet? Please post some for those of us in the desert that wish for some snow.
  7. Kevin Millar was just awful yesterday on the set with Rose while they interviewed Billy Beane. Bad jokes, smirks about GMs boozing it up in their hotel rooms. Just bad.
  8. I was fairly neutral on the finale. The only cliff hanger was what was whispered into Rick's ear. I'm curious what it was (I didn't read the comic book and I prefer not to know what it was.) Hopefully, it'll be like Parks and Recreation. Okay-to-mediocre first season. Gold in the 2nd.
  9. this signing takes me by surprise, as it has others. The money isn't the issue, obviously, but the years. I'm stunned. As splitter said, good for him and his family that they will be able to live comfortably for several generations. Based on what I've read about the guy, he deserves it. Let's hope he can do some good with that money as well.
  10. an injury history, though. Otherwise, I have always liked him as a pitcher. Hope it's better than the Dave Bush acquisition from a few years back.
  11. yeah, that was the best part. The motion sensors were a nice touch, too. Otherwise, it was just "okay" to me.
  12. I lost all respect for Raines and his HOF career when I opened a pack of baseball cards (1990 I think) and his card had him as "Rock Raines." Yes, I realize that was his nickname but "Rock" was not in quotation marks as if that was his given name. Coincidentally, that was about the time that he became just an average player to me and not the speed demon he used to be. I guess I would vote for these guys: Roberto Alomar, Bert Blyleven, Edgar Martinez, Mark McGwire, Jack Morris, Rafael Palmeiro, Lee Smith. I would guess that only Alomar and Blyleven will get in. McGwire will garner his 20-ish% again and Palmeiro will get enough to stay on the ballot for another year, too.
  13. I don't know why, but I totally read the thread title as "DeRosa Re-signs with the Rockies, 3 years/$32M" and basically had a heart attack that somebody paid Mark DeRosa that kind of coin. On topic, de la Rosa is a good pitcher and I was very impressed of what he has been able to accomplish as a member of the Rockies, as opposed to his average-to-mediocre stints with the Royals and Brewers. That said, this is a very risky signing by Colorado. Maybe he's just a late bloomer, so maybe it'll work out fine.
  14. yeah, I had always wondered about that, too. I had NEVER seen footage of Uecker in action. Nice. Real Nice. Otherwise, the interview was as expected. It would've been great to be in the audience for the off-camera stuff that was talked about.
  15. I traveled with frozen pizzas when I moved from Wisconsin out to Arizona 14 years ago. It traveled "okay" but only using ice cubes from the hotel each morning inside my cooler only sorta worked. The pizza ended up being pretty soggy. Edible, but soggy. If I could do it over again, I'd have bought dry ice for the cooler. I don't know about other states, but I imagine it's the same all over: people down here have no idea what cheese curds are. None whatsover. And they don't understand it when I explain what it is to them.
  16. It's currently 27 degrees with a wind chill of 18. The low tonight and tomorrow is scheduled to be in the teens with wind chills in the single digits. For our corner of Arizona (Kingman) that's unheard of for November.
  17. for me, I played the heck out of NHL 2000. The latest one I've played (and own) is NHL 06. I play on PC, though, and since they don't make hockey for PC anymore, I'm stuck with it. I have seen online on some forums, that some people have modded NHL '04 I believe where it is way better than any other game out there. I haven't tried looking for it yet.
  18. if it's anything like the past, mlb network will air it multiple times throughout the off-season.
  19. have any of the latest hockey games fixed the fighting mechanic? They've always been so lame. Punch and block--oh boy! (he rolls his eyes) I'd love to see an actual scrum, where you can punch, sure, but also if you have the upper hand you can pull his sweater over his head and keep pummeling him. I know it's not a major thing with a hockey video game. The gameplay should be #1. But every hockey game I've ever played has a fighting mechanic that seems just thrown in. Oh, and I've come to know EA games in the past as being way too easy to play goal-festivals. Routinely, games would finish like an all-star game, with 12-10 final scores. Have they fixed this, too?
  20. I saw the commercial the other morning and immediately programmed it into the DVR. I've been looking forward to it since Bob & Bob talked about it during one of Bob's visits to the booth to talk to Bob.
  21. Correction, 42" is VERY small for that distance. My chair is 13 1/3 feet from our tv and our 55" is just right, based on the charts that I had seen in the past. 60" could have been done but I wasn't willing to pay for that. I don't mean to rain on your parade, and I realize that you probably have a budget in mind, but I could probably guarantee that you will be disappointed watching a 42" tv at that great of a distance.
  22. I got the first one right and that was it. Embarrassing.
  23. the "soap opera" effect is definitely in play on pre-recorded shows when watching in 120 hz and especially 240 hz. We have it on our tv (LG 55" LED--beautiful) and, although one could get used to it, we turned it off because it bugged my wife too much. I didn't mind it at all and I still turn it on for all sports events as it does help on live broadcasts. So I have to deal with only the commercials being "weird." By the way, I call it the "BBC effect" since it looks more like British television than soap operas to me, although I do understand the reference.
  24. as for HDMI cables, monoprice.com is your friend. There has been research done that confirms that there is zero difference in quality between the $60 (and up) HDMI cables from Monster Cable and the $4 HDMI cables that can be found.
  25. the thing that makes the old ball and glove logo so great, and, in my mind, not at all over-rated, is that there are literally thousands (probably even more) baseball fans that have only recently been made aware that it is an "m" and a "b" and then still even more thousands that don't even know about it and just see a ball in a glove. It is pure genius. And I'm not just talking about in Wisconsin. I'm talking about across the country and even world-wide. There are probably big baseball fans in Switzerland that don't "see it" for what it really is.
