  1. It was runs scored but if you dig into it on fangraphs and taking pitchers out of the equation. The Brewers were 11th in offensive WAR value over that period of time.
  2. I think that is fair, both have their warts. Neither is going to bring any value with the glove, maybe JD does at 1B but not enough of a sample to say that he will. Voit has a career wRC+ of 133 over 1,270 plate appearances and Davis has a wRC+ of 118 over 1,074 plate appearances. Voit just can't stay healthy which is a problem for any team acquiring him. Voit is also projected to make double Davis. Voit is also probably cheaper and has more of a direct path in acquiring when you factor in we are going to be directly competing with the Mets for the 2 seed.
  3. Telling myself this is a JBJ replacement, still hoping we still get a 1B/DH.
  4. Brewers struggled against righties and lefties last year, lets not get it twisted. A combined 20th in wRC+ (excluding pitchers) in 2020-2021. Last year the Brewers had a 90 wRC+ vs. lefties and a 92 wRC+ vs. righties. McCutchen is fine considering the inevitable injuries in the OF, I am talking about Cain specifically. I also question how much the Brewers actually believe in Tyrone Taylor. I still want a bat that can play 1B and DH, a trade for Luke Voit would be my ideal scenario. I however do realize how crowded the bench would be if they made that move. One of Brosseau or Taylor would most likely be gone in that scenario.
  5. 1 year with a mutual option according to Ken
  6. This would be great, I just feel like the lineup needs an impact bat to lengthen the lineup
  7. Congrats to him that is great opportunity. Just when we were turning a corner with international signings, hope we can keep that new found Venezuela connection alive.
  8. One person doesn't make an entire front office but potentially losing Stearns takes away one of the few competitive advantages we have. That is all you really have as a small market franchise. Can't outspend the big boys on the field.
  9. So the "rumored" option for 2023 doesn't exist?
  10. https://nypost.com/2021/10/06/theo-epstein-out-mets-left-eyeing-billy-beane-david-stearns/ Joel Sherman not adding anything we haven't heard before besides the fact he says Stearns is making over $3 Million to be the Brewers POBO
  11. What an idiot, frustrated about what exactly? You won the division hours earlier. Stearns looks so mad in that video. Also not telling the team till you couldn't throw yesterday? What a joke
  12. I know it is small sample alert and to never get caught up with rookie level stat lines, but reading the box scores gets me excited for what Hendry Mendez is doing this season.
  13. For Houser his best pitch is his sinker, and it isn't even close. That pitch is devastating to right handers as he throws it 67% of the time to them and right handed hitters really can't do much with this pitch as it has an expected slugging percentage (XSLG) of .244. So essentially right handers know what is coming early in the count and they are pretty much powerless. His sinker is a top 10 pitch in baseball according to run value. What has made him passable vs. lefties this year is his 4 seam is getting way better results then last year left handed batters are slugging just .270 in 2021 vs. Houser's 4 seamer. Last year left handed batters had a .613 slugging percentage vs. the 4 seamer. If we really want Houser's ceiling to go up, he will have to develop a better repertoire vs. lefties. If he can be above average vs. lefties look out. But I also think the above is a cautionary tale on FIP. Houser will never be a FIP darling his best pitch the sinker is not meant to generate swing and miss. Yeah, sinker heavy pitchers will always be at somewhat of a disadvantage for FIP because so many of their outs come on groundballs, though they typically do a better job of limiting HRs so that offsets it to a degree. It's not impossible though. Obviously Brandon Webb was one of the most dominant sinkerballers in recent times & he posted a 77 FIP- for his career as he was still able to strike guys out at an above average clip (112 K%) and walk guys at a below average clip (91 BB%+) in addition to burning worms. Logan Webb is doing it this year too with a 114 K%+ | 71 BB%+ | 50 HR9+ triple slash adding up to a 70 FIP- even with a higher ground ball percentage than Houser. The difference though is Logan Webb has an incredible swing and miss pitch with his slider. Houser would really have to develop an out pitch. Hey you never know with the Brewers.

  15. Can any CBA savant clarify to me if Jace is arbitration eligible next year? Baseball reference says yes and Spotrac says he is a UFA.
  16. What a season so far from Felix Valerio and somehow left off the MLB top 30 update
  17. I don’t think the Cardinals and Brewers are similar market size. The Cardinals market covers a much bigger area beyond the immediate St. Louis area, whereas the Brewers are kind of penned in by Chicago, the Twin Cities, and Lake Michigan. As one of the old 16 franchises, they have a big following in areas throughout the Great Plains and mid south. I’m sure their broadcast rights revenue is much higher than the Brewers, which is one of the lowest in MLB. This is so true just look at the radio affiliates for the Cardinals vs. the Brewers. The Cardinals have affiliates in Illinois, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana. We will never be able to compete with that.
  18. We should be ecstatic the Cubs took 2 from the Reds. Before these last two wins vs. Reds the Cubs were on a stretch of 10-36 with 4 of those wins vs. the Diamondbacks.
  19. I admit the 2014 team had a huge crash but since we are talking about probability charts how about the 2019 team going from 5.6% chances on September 5th all the way to clinching the second wild card with 4 games to go. That team went 20-7 in September with an 0-3 finish in games that did not matter. 20-4 up until that point, what a run.
  20. Hopefully we officially get the DH in the NL next year.
  21. Lauer will never be a FIP darling, especially with him throwing his cutter more which has a weak 16.4% K rate but a hard hit rate of just 27.5%, a really good percentage for a type of fastball pitch. As a whole he is 92nd percentile in hard hit % this year. He has done a really good job lately of avoiding the home run ball. 8 homers given up in his first 24 innings compared to just 3 in the last 45.3 with 2 of those 3 coming at Coors.
  22. Just to put into context what Hedbert Perez, Eduardo Garcia, and Jeferson Quero are doing for their age at the AZ level. Below is where the 3 rank out of 79 players in WRC+ minimum 50 abs. 7. Hedbert Perez 149 12. Jeferson Quero 137 21. Eduardo Garcia 120 32. Jheremy Vargas 111 All aged 18 which is little young for the league as the average age of the 79 qualified is 19 years old. Yes I am reading into things way too early. But this a big step for us considering our history of how international signings have done right out of the gate.
  23. Ashby was so dominant on the mound last night, sitting 96-97 on his fastball with that breaking ball is not fair when he has command. There wasn't even one barreled ball last night, and that includes foul balls. To strike out 11 on 60 pitches is pretty incredible. Digging past Ashby's pedestrian ERA of of 4.48, he has a FIP of 2.68 and a xFIP of 2.29. He has an astonishing groundball rate of 67.2% up from 49% two years ago, you don't usually see that groundball rate with a 14.1K per 9. Ashby also has a BABIP against at .368 which explains the ballooned ERA. One thing I noticed last night is that it was nice to have Shaw at 3B who made a couple above average plays.
  24. 01. OF-Garrett Mitchell (02) He will figure it out at AA, he is learning not everything falls in for a hit at AA like it does in college and A+ ball. 02. LHP-Aaron Ashby (05) If he was in a system I didn't trust in developing pitching he would be a couple spots lower. The stuff is just too good and the Brewers track record lately gives me confidence. 03. LHP-Ethan Small (03) Right now really just a two pitch guy, I think it is going to be hard to add a slider with the way his extension and release is currently constructed. 04. SS-Brice Turang (01) I still think he can add strength to his frame to bump that SLG/ISO up to the mid teens. 05. C-Mario Feliciano (04) Too bad he can't stay healthy. If you include the COVID season it really is like he has missed 2.5 seasons of development, which is a big deal when you are a catcher. I believe in the bat and I believe the Brewers development staff at developing catchers. 06. C-Jeferson Quero (10) Wish I could watch full game footage, if he keeps it up we are talking about a top 100 guy. Zero passed balls so far with a modern approach at the plate 07. OF-Sal Frelick - Not an overly appealing toolsy pick that everyone wanted, but I do think he taps into a little bit of more power than expected. Calling him a try hard slap hitter is pretty unfair. 08. 2B-Tyler Black - Watched him vs. Vandy and he was the best hitter on both teams. I don't know how much range he will have at 2B so the bat is really going to have to carry him. 09. OF-Hedbert Perez (07) Strikeouts a concern for me, does he profile as more of a corner outfielder only? I think that is why I am not as bullish as most. 10. LHP-Antoine Kelly (06) It is too bad he had TOS. One of those guys who could shoot up the list or completely fall off a year from now. 11. 1B/3B-Alex Binelas 12. 2B-Felix Valerio (24) 13. OF-Joe Gray, Jr. 14. RHP-Justin Bullock 15. SS-Eduardo Garcia (09) 16. C/3B-Zavier Warren (11) 17. OF-Hendry Mendez 18. RHP-Victor Castaneda (26) 19. UTIL-Korry Howell 20. SS-David Hamilton 21. SS-Freddy Zamora (16) 22. 2B-Hayden Cantrelle 23. RHP-Abner Uribe 24. INF-Jesus Parra (13) 25. INF-Jheremy Vargas 26. RHP-Max Lazar (08) Graduated/Traded C-Payton Henry (18) Dropped Off OF-Tristen Lutz (12) OF-Micah Bello (14) RHP-Alec Bettinger (15) RHP-Dylan File (17) RHP-Lun Zhao (19) RHP-Noah Zavolas (20) OF-Corey Ray (21) RHP-Zack Brown (22) LHP-Clayton Andrews (23) OF-Carlos Rodriguez (25) Tons of movement which is expected after having a year off, probably would have had Reese Olson in the 16-20 range.
