  1. He clobbered the first one to dead center, I think that is hard to do in Biloxi. The other one was a moonshot to right center. Both homeruns came off of center cut fastballs.
  2. Just watched Small's start from Saturday against Central Michigan in the NCAA Tournament. 6 IP 5 H 2 R 2 ER 10 K 3 BB He didn't have the best command throughout the game. Fastball sat in the 88-92, when elevated a couple times got up to 94. He didn't get as much swing in miss on the fastball as I would expect from a guy that gets almost 16K/9ip in the SEC. What I will say is that fastball was never a consistent MPH. One pitch could be 92 and the next 88 or vice versa. I don't know if this is his strategy or not (amateur here). I didn't see a 55 Changeup like MLB.com had. He rarely threw it and the home run he gave up was off a changeup, I am pretty sure, altough it wasn't a bad pitch necessarily, left it low in the strike zone but was on the outside corner maybe even off the plate a little. The cleanup hitter took it the other way, I really would just tip my cap to that hitter. His breaking ball looked more slurvy to me in the early going and he would almost use it exclusively to freeze the hitter looking when he got two strikes on them. As the game went on he got more top to bottom rotation on his breaking ball and it looked more like a traditional curveball. I don't know if these are two separate pitches or not. Overall besides giving up the home run, there really was not any other hard contact given up. Just two cents from an amateur but I always hate reading scouting reports and taking them as gospel because who knows when the report was written and when they last saw him pitch.
  3. https://player.fm/series/starting-9-1542576/starting-9-episode-82-christian-yelich-travis-shaw-eric-thames Skip ahead to an 1:16:00 to listen to Yelich, Shaw, and Thames talk to former mlb player Dallas Braden and Jared Carrabis. No matter what you think about barstool sports this is still worth a listen in my opinion as you get to see the guys personalities kind of open up.
  4. I just wanted to say after reading this thread that the front office really has built a team on depth I could see anyone of these guys helping out the team in 2019. Manipulating the 40 man roster and jettisoning guys with minor league options who aren't being effective for a hot hand squeezed out a couple wins for us last year and we will need it again. My personal favorites are: Tyrone Taylor-A guy who got lost in the prospect shuffle long ago but a guy who I think can help the MLB team if called upon by playing all 3 outfield positions adequately. May not be Keon Broxton with the glove but I think he may be a better put the ball in play option. Junior Guerra-I think the fastball splitter combo will get the job done being a bridge guy.
  5. Nori Aoki is who I have in my mind for Gamel. Hopefully his numbers get a nice little boost from playing in our ballpark. Side note I think I was the first person to by his brother's shirsey in 2009. I definitely thought he was going to complete the young core. I am a sucker for left handed hitting third basemen with pop. I remember last year at this time thinking Brett Phillips was going to be our 4th outfielder with Braun's laundry list of injuries. I think our front office thought the same of Brett back then up until the day they traded him, which is why I am surprised we never acquired a player like Gamel last year to spare Braun and Cain (obviously playing Yelich in center when Cain sits). I think Domingo will put up respectable numbers in the AL DHing and playing in the outfield sparingly, which is why I wish the DH came to the National League. It is too bad that he doesn't have more value then Gamel and a recent mid round draft pick but I don't think his market was totally different last year (see Corey Dickerson trade).
  6. Wanted to champion for Payton Henry, guy didn't even make the top 50 of the preseason poll.
  7. Hard to stomach a scenario where Brinson "was" our everyday center fielder this year, "was" because he would be sent down in 90% of organizations with those offensive stats by now.
  8. In parantheses mid-season rank from last year (not a big post season ranking guy, since data doesn't change that much from midseason to postseason) 1. (3) 2B-Keston Hiura-Nothing really to add, we all know this kid is the real deal hitting. 2. (8) SP-Corbin Burnes-He always was dictating the opposing players at bat, only a matter of time. 3. (4) SP-Brandon Woodruff-Has the arsenal, just needs to keep ironing out his mechanics. 4. (5) SP-Luis Ortiz-Again the stuff is there, but we need to actually see a body of work from Luis this season. 5. (9) OF-Brett Phillips-Was all ready to see him this year as a super fourth outfielder behind all right handed bats…then we traded for Yelich and signed Cain. The path isn’t as easy now, unless Santana is traded. 6. (11) SP-Freddy Peralta-Nasty out pitches, just better command stands in the way of him being a future big league starter. 7. (10) 3B-Lucas Erceg-Just that pretty lefty swing, could watch it all day. 8. (7) OF-Corey Ray-As I said in the midseason list last year will give him the benefit of the doubt coming off of his injury last year but he won’t be this high on my midseason list if he isn’t producing this year. 9. (14) RP-Taylor Williams-Was disappointed we never signed an 8th inning guy this offseason, but now wouldn’t be surprised if Taylor is that guy at some point this season. 10. (18) OF-Tristen Lutz-I think it is worth mentioning again as I did last year, some scouts in the Brewers draft room were clamoring for the Brewers to take him at 9. 11. (12) C-Jacob Nottingham-Championed for him last season even if his surface hitting stats weren’t pretty but I saw underlying improvements (K rate dropping BB rate slightly up). He also improved drastically behind the dish. Looking at a couple of the lists here, looks like he might be moving back up the top 25. 12. (20) SP-Cody Ponce 13. (15) UTIL-Mauricio Dubon 14. (19) SP-Kodi Mederios 15. (16) OF-Trent Grisham 16. (17) SP-Marcos Diplan 17. (NR) C/1B-KJ Harrison 18. (NR) SP-Adrian Houser-Just going off of AFL helium 19. (NR) SP-Carlos Herrera 20. (23) C-Mario Feliciano 21. (22) SP-Trey Supak 22. (NR) OF-Troy Stokes, Jr. 23. (24) SP-Jon Perrin 24. (21) 1B-Jacob Gatewood 25. (25) RP-Jorge Lopez (1) OF-Lewis Brinson (Traded) (2) RP-Josh Hader (Graduated) (6) 2B-Isan Diaz (Traded) (13) OF-Monte Harrison (Traded)
  9. No it wasn't HH admitted in one of the threads it was the Yelich trade, that was the first domino to fall the first domino was a supposed "AL team" that is besides the point though I welcome HH, more beneficial than any beat writer the last week +
  10. You do realize the AL team was the Yelich trade right? He can't give us every single correct detail pretty obvious why he can't. cough his source cough. Dude has been pretty spot on.
  11. Carolina Hurricanes play in Raleigh, my guess would be Louisville???
  12. Looks like you can use next year's pool if you so wish, but no combining last year's remaining pool with next year's pool.
  13. http://milwaukee.locals.baseballprospectus.com/2017/09/22/brewers-minor-league-awards-2/ C Jacob Nottingham "Biloxi is a tough venue for hitters, evidenced by the fact that only two Shuckers received more than 300 plate appearances and posted above a .700 OPS. Jacob Nottingham was not one of those players, compiling a .695 OPS with 9 homers and 48 RBI across 101 games. That was still good enough for a slightly above-average TAv, but most important for Nottingham’s value this season were the steps forward he took behind the plate. He graded out with +7.1 framing runs, caught 40% of would-be base thieves, and sliced his passed balls by more than 50% from last season. It’s looking more and more like Nottingham will be able to stay behind the plate, now the bat just has to start coming along a little bit more." Just wanted to add some context to Nottingham's season and show that improvement did happen. To add to that great blurb by BP Milwaukee Nottingham cut his K rate from 30% to 22% increased his OPS from .641 to .695 all while having his BABIP crater from .317 to .255. I am no scout but after watching him a couple times the past two years his blocking of balls in the dirt has vastly improved so I am not surprised his passed ball rate got chopped in half. I wouldn't read into the walk rate improving as he got hit by an abnormal amount of pitches. As already said he isn't MLB ready by any means but just wanted to point out he is progressing even though the surface stats may not put him in a positive light.
  14. By reading that article how could you not want and international draft?
  15. Taking into account actually having depth on the mound throughout the organization and our GM's shrewd history transaction wise. I just don't see him making a 3 or 4 year commitment to any of the mid level guys. 1 or 2 year deal or a salary dump trade with another team for 1 season, definitely could see that.
  16. I would hope the guy who studied exercise science in college would understand when to push it and when not to. Let's just hope and pray that when they cut into him it is just some cleanup, pretty please baseball gods.
  17. 1. OF-Lewis Brinson 2. LHP-Josh Hader - he is this good by just throwing fastballs and walking more batters than hits allowed so far....just wait till he reaches his ceiling with Derek Johnson. 3. 2B-Keston Hiura 4. RHP-Brandon Woodruff 5. RHP-Luis Ortiz 6. 2B-Isan Diaz 7. OF-Corey Ray - Will give him the benefit of the doubt since the kid didn't even have an offseason recovering from injury. But this time next year if the stats are similar expect a huge drop. Very concerning that his stats are what they are with his BABIP when you compare it to the rest of the guys at A+. 8. RHP-Corbin Burnes 9. OF-Brett Phillips - Look for him to be our super 4th outfielder because of his left handedness compared to the right hand dominated outfield, and his ability to play all three positions. With Braun's injury history I don't think Philips will get lost in the shuffle at all like some think. 10. 3B-Lucas Erceg - Love watching his swing, and he has an absolute cannon at 3B. 11. RHP-Freddy Peralta - Watching hitters trying to hit his slider is a treat. 12. C-Jacob Nottingham - I bet that I am probably higher on Nottingham than pretty much everybody. Watching him catch last year vs. this year is like night and day and once he hones that in even more I expect the bat to take off. 13. OF-Monte Harrison - Bat speed is incredible 14. RHP-Taylor Williams - Will be in the Brewers pen next year 15. UTIL-Maurcio Dubon - Probably will have him lower on the list than most, just not sure he has much extra base ability in the bat to be a regular. 16. OF-Trent Clark 17. RHP-Marcos Diplan 18. OF-Tristen Lutz - When you read blurbs about the Brewers draft room thinking about taking him at #9 it is hard not to get excited about his potential. 19. LHP-Kodi Medeiros 20. RHP-Cody Ponce 21. 1B-Jake Gatewood 22. RHP-Trey Supak 23. C-Mario Feliciano 24. RHP-Jon Perrin 25. RHP-Jorge Lopez
  18. Don't forget they signed another HS player 23rd round pick Cam Robinson, so who knows how much the Brewers will have leftover, can't be much.
  19. A comparable would be Tim Anderson from the White Sox who signed an extension in March. 2017 850K 2018 1.00M 2019 1.40M 2020 4.00M 2021 7.25M 2022 9.50M 2023 12.50M Team Option 1.0M Buyout 2024 14.00M Team Option 1.0M Buyout So a total of 26M guaranteed with the possibility of 50.50M. I would have to think something similar to that unless somebody can convince me Arcia's glove is worth millions of dollars more than Anderson (serious question)? Also may have to pay a little more since the clock is already ticking where as the Sox had about two more "free" months to work with coming into this season without losing a year of service time.
  20. I feel like we are spoiled with our official scorer because he is so impartial, so many homers around the league.
  21. I understand getting Jesus in the lineup but Thames in LF has to end, especially with the leg problems
  22. Barnes arm is going to fall off by August the way he is abused
  23. None of the Nashville Sounds could square up Hader today. The one hit they had was a seeing eye single and not even one of their outs was solidly hit. As the box score indicated Hader struggled with his command somewhat, testament to him and his stuff that he can be that un-hittable when not even bringing his A game.
  24. Chase Anderson's velocity seemed like it was up from last year a couple MPH, definitely would make him a different pitcher with that changeup if it becomes the norm
