  1. No one wants Weeks to even sniff 600 PA. Also I would say Gennett has way better range than Weeks right now especially with Weeks coming off a blown up hamstring. At least that's what my naked eye has been seeing so far this season.
  2. Can someone tell me why Coulter either is catching or designated hitting? And it seems like more often than not he is DHing. Important to get him to a long term position asap.
  3. Just would like to point out Jose Abreu's fast start 4 HR's in his last 3 games. Really wonder how hard the Brewers were contemplating bringing him or not, as they were "rumored" to have interest.
  4. The way this team pitched in the second half of last season I can see how there is optimism for 2014. Then you add a guy like Garza who stabilizes the rotation and has a trickle down effect to the bullpen (Thornburg) really helps things. I have been a fan long enough not to get giddy over a fast start, 2007 taught me a lot in that respect. But the team should be solid barring any catastrophes, now the division the Brewers compete in will be the real deciding factor. Hopefully a team or two under achieves.
  5. I am of the opinion that when Axford got of to horrid starts in April, he not only cost the team some games but hurt team psyche, so Ron looks like he learned from his mistake when he knew Ax wasn't ready. I am glad Ron went with who he thought gave him the best chance to save the game and not going with what is on paper. Henderson will get his bearings back just give it some time.
  6. I will take the Rockies and A's if you guys will let a newbie join?
  7. If the numbers are in fact true of 3.2 Million and the Brewers pool is only 2.2 they will have to forfeit any signings over 250K in the 2014-2015 signing period. So look for the Brewers if they sign Lara to the figure above to sign some more high end guys to compensate for the penalties of not being able to sign high end talent in 2014-2015.
  8. Considering Attanasio has a good relationship with Garza's agent Nez Balelo I am not too concerned someone is playing dirty here. It really is kind of weird he didn't get a Anibal Sanchez or C.J. Wilson type deal from a contender, especially without forfeiting draft pick compensation. All I can say is I am a lot more excited for the season compared to yesterday. There should not be a lot of variance with Garza, Lohse, and Gallardo all three should have a sub 4.00 ERA. Too bad our division is really good compared to 2011. Also no one can really call Attanasio a tight wad anymore, not calling out anybody on this forum but the goons on JSonline and radio listeners were ridiculous this offseason. We really didn't overpay when you consider what we gave Suppan six years ago or what the Yankees just shelled out for Tanaka. If he signed with a big market contender the media would spin it how it was a great deal IMO
  9. I think it would be dumb not to offer a qualifying offer if this scenario played out, that is if he turns down the mutual for $14 Million and the qualifying is for a projected $15 Million. Obviously if he declines the option and wants a multi-year deal he won't sign the tender for an extra million. An interesting scenario to say the least. Even if it does play out I don't know what team gives up a draft pick to sign a 37 year old.
  10. When our alternatives are Ike Davis, Mitch Moreland, and some combination of Francisco, Morris and Halton, I think it is okay to have discussions about Smoak don't you think? At least Smoak is accountable to be on the field past April unlike Gamel.
  11. Smoak has to be available right? I mean they have Hart, LoMo, and Montero. All three guys need to have time at DH and 1B, I just don't see how Smoak fits into their plans. Seems like we will get one of Davis, Moreland, or Smoak. I don't feel comfortable giving up Thornburg at all. The opportunity cost of just rolling with the better of Morris and Francisco / Halton seems like a better option than giving up an arm with potential. Having said that giving up Pena or Fiers I would be comfortable with.
  12. I don't think a Gennett is a pure slap hitter as you have pegged him to be like Iglesias or Barney. Gennett has double digit home run potential for sure which Barney and Iglesias won't ever achieve. It is too early to debate whether he is a long term solution or not. But you have to have some sort of platoon with Weeks this season because his numbers against lefties are nothing to write home about. I also would like to point out I was mildly impressed with his glove last year, probably because i have had to watch Weeks for the last 7 years. Now he is nowhere near Iglesias or Barney. Remember when Segura was going to have to make the switch to second because of his range? I don't put too much stock in scouts defensive grades after watching Segura play defense for a whole season up in the bigs.
  13. I really don't understand why Hunter Morris wasn't called up in August/September...I read a tweet that said Melvin regretted not making that move. We really had nothing to lose and Morris could have broken out like Scooter Gennett and Khris Davis did. Those guys didn't necessarily mash in AAA and neither has Morris, but at least they got a shot to make the transition and have had short term success. That way we wouldn't be talking about guys like James Loney and Ike Davis.
  14. Man I really hope Hart comes back. Why tender a contract to Francisco if you might make a deal to bring in Ike Davis? Seems like the same player to me.
  15. You could argue that the acquisition of Segura in the Greinke trade, instead of a player such as Cowart or Olt from the Rangers proved this. Not that I have any indication those guys were available. Also the organization saying Gennett is the leader over Weeks at 2nd heading into spring is a good sign although I would want to get out of the 2015 vesting option anyway possible..hopefully a more balanced approach is in store for the future. My hope is that Counsell is changing some philosophies in the FO.
  16. This is exactly why I don't think Ramirez has been traded. 3B is probably our biggest hole in the minors position player wise and said team likely wouldn't trade their bonafide 3B prospect for an expensive 35 year old one and it wouldn't make sense to trade him if we don't even have a below average replacement if we were to trade for pitching instead. Hopefully Delmonico puts it together offensively and defensively next year. Got to love left handed hitting third basemen.
  17. This article definitely was saved for the opportune time aka after the franchise makes a huge signing of Cano. Really have to wonder what Tony Bleningo is doing going to the press good luck getting another job when you throw your boss under the bus like that. And don't tell me the owner wouldn't fire Zduriencik just because he doesn't want the franchise to go through more turnover because it wants to save face to the public. Weak excuse by the author of the article. As for Zduriencik as our scouting director him failing to hit on any starting pitching and I mean ANYBODY besides Gallardo was the downfall of remaining consistent contenders. Oh well its not like Seid has corrected the problem really.
  18. Like others have said the system is starting to get some momentum in the lower levels hitting wise. If Arcia, Coulter, and Roache put it together in the second half I think it would put a lot of our minds at ease with a an upward trend going into next year. Also agree that the sooner Coulter isn't behind the dish the better. Will he project to OF, 3B, or 1B? Curious to where you guys think he might play in the future.
  19. Yes we do have a team option for very cheap next year for 1.5 Million, the crazy thing he is arbitration eligible after next year and we can retain his rights for 3 more years if we want to. Highway robbery if you ask me.
  20. If Marco Estrada's name was Shaun Marcum everyone's perception of him would change he doesn't need to hit 95 to be effective with that changeup. My point being no one gives the guy a chance because we didn't expect him to have the numbers he had last year as a starter. I understand a long time minor leaguer and long man wouldn't reflect long-term confidence. The sample size isn't large but its not minuscule either. If he didn't miss a lot of bats I would definitely say it was a fluke year but I feel the guy can at least replicate a sub 4.00 year call me crazy.
  21. In my opinion coming from a CPA but not many years of experience yet. You say you don't like owing taxes come April. Its actually not such a bad thing because your basically getting an interest free loan from the government instead of giving them an interest free loan. At least that is how my tax professors explained it a couple years ago. Just make sure you have the money come April. But like others have stated don't just decide to claim 5 for no reason on your W4 you will get hit with a penalty. Having both of you claim single won't do you too much because if you add both of your deductions it will come out to married filing jointly anyway. On page 2 you will notice there is a multiple earners section. I would advise you to fill this out with your spouse, it seems to be more accurate, no one ever really looks at page 2 but it can help a lot. And I would advise anyone to look because you don't want to owe too much nor do you wan't to be refunded a lot. Hope this helps a little bit, ha.
