I don't know with the 6-8 team playoffs. I'm not a fan of 2 loss teams likely becoming a part of that. A number of these teams will play eachother still. Miami beat ND. Will face Clemson. IF it were playoff at 8 teams Strong chance ND/Miami/Clemson would match up again. Auburn/Alabama/Georgia One of them too, when they are facing eachother. The Pac-10 will see that happen at time to like the Big 10 is this year. The Teams don't need to play extra games, they just need to move the conference games earlier by 1 week and not play the 3 cake games or 2 with 1 legit out of conference opponents. I could see instances where if opened to 8, some power teams schedule weaker and focus to get in on their conference play. And others may just schedule bigger non-conference opponents. Either way it works, you're hurting the small schools.

Come on Arcia and Brinson? plus sweetners? You're talking 2 top 15? prospects for Archer? Arcia already proving he's a guaranteed 2+War SS on his worst of seasons. I'm with the guy who said I wouldn't trade him alone for Archer. Saying Dubon can take over Arcia when he's a barely .700 OPS bat in the minors w/o the defensive prowess/power that Arcia brings. I'm with the thought on adding a FA and using our own SP prospects over burning them to trade for Archer. Tampa fwiw has a great current core in the OF. A top SS prospect(Thank heaven removes the idea of Arcia parting), some question marks for C, 1b, Pitching. I'd assume you're talking Woodruff and Ortiz, Dubon and assume a Pina or Thames involved...If they traded for the needs. Otherwise, I'd think a Brinson, Ortiz and Diaz. With the sweetner whomever that may be. That's 3 top 100 players 1 being in top 20 if not 15 as headliner. One could imagine with Hiura, Diaz becomes expendable, Burnes/Peralta/Ponce that depth makes Ortiz expendable, and Phillips/Harrison make Brinson expendable since you're getting a "3" BWar SP over last 2 seasons but 7.8 FWar. I don't know, I could warm up to an Archer acquisition but it just depends on the cost. We have depth in the minors, but would be thinning it potentially by too much for 1 guy. I suppose you can always get back some value when 2 or 3 seasons go by if the depth and or team teamed sour.

MLB Trade Rumors Top 50 FAs
brewcrewdue80 replied to Ron Robinsons Beard's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Chatwood is a mistake it is 3/30 10AAV. Based on the writeup, I would be all-in on Bryan Shaw who's been consistently successful, and now throwing harder. Lynn. If you heard that 3/48 would sign Lynn, the Brewers had better offer 49.85mil for 3 years and laugh at the Cardinals because they won't get the higher pick comp for under 50mil signing. I think in no way is Lynn getting any less than 60million. In Chatwood's case, I'd also question if Lynn is #15 on a top 50 list making 48-60, then how is Chatwood #17 and only getting 30mil? Chatwood's career Road ERA is 3.31. a .241/.326/.366/.692 slash line. Very Respectable. For that price 3/30 it's a no brainer as you know if he resembles more like the Colorado stat version vs this road version, you certainly could trade him away to a rebuilding team while paying off 3-6mil a year of what's left of his contract. Days are going by fast, Halloween felt like last week, and yet next week is Thanksgiving! I'm anxious to see some signings just to get a feel on the market. -
MLB Trade Rumors Top 50 FAs
brewcrewdue80 replied to Ron Robinsons Beard's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
^^That's good. As a Franchise throwing 12-14million contracts per year is manageable, well not really managed well with sticking with them, but when it turns bad it isn't crippling itself. Arrieta and 20/+ per prediction would be such a tough pill to swallow if he carries a 4+Fip throughout that contract, like those previous 12-14mil contracts turned out. We could use that 6-8million. Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain, Jake Arrieta, Wade Davis, Lance Lynn, Alex Cobb, Greg Holland and Carlos Santana all turned down the QO and come with the new compensation. How would the Royals have sat if all three actually agreed to the QO? 112/113-140 last season, BRef has them around 123 projected at the moment, so that would have been about 177mil if the 3 agreed. It's curious to ponder their Payroll limitations since 112-113 were their two previous highs prior to 140 this year. That would be near the line where our payroll topped off previously, just under 110mil. Could Mark A. et al push the needle to 125-140mil team payroll these days? -
We'll just hang out at 6, win again hang out at 5, win again stay at 5, win the B10 champ game move to 2 passing OSU who'll be 4 heading in to that game. Pretty amazing how we can be ranked what? 9 to start the year, win 9 straight and sit at 8 so now it'll be 10 in a row at best 5 likely 6 with 1 loss teams ahead of them. Why doesn't the committee just rank both WI and Mia 1/2 and wait for the inevitable conference Championship game or loss before to then drop them? To vote a top 4 based on who you think should be in the top 4 ignoring another team's winning streak is so bad. You have 4 teams to be in the playoffs, if they don't belong, they'll lose in that 1st game. OSU lost heavily to Iowa who we just stomped....I'm sure it'll be said to be a hangover game having faced OSU the week before so that performance was to be expected, no credit to Wisconsin. At least that's how I feel the media will feel. Michigan on deck who certainly jumps in to top 20. So that'll be 2 top 20 teams in a row WI faces, with most likely OSU. At what point do you say WI doesn't have quality win?

Sure Hader threw mostly FBs, 81% according to Fangraphs, but 11% were Sliders and 7% were Changeups. Pretty close split on 2nd and 3rd pitch. Looking at game logs, 3 times he pitched 3innings total, the highest for him and each he only gave up 1 hit. 5 of 7 of his 2-2.2 IP had 0 hits with the 2.1/2.2 giving up 2hits. those 5 with 0 hits were 2IP total. Don't want to try him as a starter? No, let's give Suter/Wilkerson the starts and Hope they get 5IP right? Only 6 of the 14 games started by Suter did he get 5+IP. 16 of 24 for Wilkerson in the minors. But only 10 Quality starts in his 24 starts. It'd be terrible for the club to keep Hader in the Bullpen and not give him some Starts over running Suter/Wilkerson out there. You know what Hader can bring to the Bullpen with just mostly FBs. Let the guy who'll be only 24 for the '18 season start and see how his other 2 pitches play out beyond 3innings. Figuring with Innings limit, it would leave him around 18 starts with the rest of the season down in the pen. That gives guys like Nelson, Burnes, Ortiz to push back in to the rotation when he's being stashed in the pen. You can't promise 100% health. You start off the year with him in the pen and he suffers that TJ surgery, you would have missed him showing off what he has as starter.

Nippon Ham Fighters - Shohei Ohtani to MLB
brewcrewdue80 replied to lcbj68c's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Otani is allowed to sign with a team...Now he's gotta wait til July 2nd right? Why come out with this news already in our offseason? How quick of an impact is he going to be to the team that wins his signing bonanza when He'd be signing July 2nd? One would have to assume he has to spend time in the minors to acclimate himself to US Baseball. So what's that? 4-8 starts assuming he does well? Pretty much an end of July to mid August at earliest? Oh I found an article stating what teams had left. Pretty much 3 teams with 3mil+ in Rangers, Yankees, and Twins. Milwaukee has 765k to offer. Seattle is the highest West Coast team that can offer 1.57mil. Or else he does the 300k and as I suggested would happen in short time, the extension sign not long after getting his 1st ML start. -
Hof numbers the rest of season with 0 drops.

Just spend in FA over using the better prospects to acquire a Relief Pitcher. I'm only moving something significant when it's a studly controllable STarting Pitcher. If we had 40 million more used in projected payroll, with a desire to find a RP then sure trade away some guys if you think this is tipping the scale towards a WS/Division winning team. Just go get say Addison Reed (28) Mike Minor (29) Juan Nicasio (31) Brandon Morrow (32) Bryan Shaw (29) Tony Watson (32) You could nab 2 of those for like 18mil/yr combined for 3 years to pair as 7th and setup. Watson and Shaw have been those types for quite awhile now. You would figure Davis/Holland would want Closer roles, and maybe even Reed. I know guys do that whole trade value thing, and I'm just thinking Hand would have what? 20million surplus value? however that works, with the Padres seeking 60million value return? Just spend that 60mil on 2 RPs for 3 years
-
Was sad to hear on radio, but 10-16 drafted players have a total of 3 pro bowl seasons. Dix, Bahktiari, and Cobb. You cant have a draft and develop system, if that's all the success you'll have. You gotta hit on one perennial Pro-bowler at least every 3rd draft. Maybe Jones can be that from this draft, but it goes to show you, TT needs to give up some draft picks and move up for a bigger talent.g
-
What would you consider a successfule 2018 season for the Brewers? 82 or more wins simply. Maybe more when the offseason turns to Spring Training 1. What is the one thing you want to see the Brewers do in the 2018 season? Get Josh Hader some starts. 2. What do you want the Brewers to do during the 2018 season with an eye towards the future (2019-2025)? Extend Orlando Arcia.
-
We did pretty well. BA's list top 10- 1. Lewis Brinson, OF 2. Brandon Woodruff, RHP 3. Corbin Burnes, RHP 4. Keston Hiura, 2B 5. Monte Harrison, OF 6. Luis Ortiz, RHP 7. Brett Phillips, OF 8. Lucas Erceg, 3B 9. Isan Diaz, 2B/SS 10. Corey Ray, OF Just swap Ray with Peralta and the top 10s are right there. Gotta Love that they are higher on Harrison than we were! It's no longer hype, the talent is real.

If Hader starts, he'll be heading to the bullpen around the trade deadline if not earlier with Inning Limitations. Which certainly may happen if we're competing. You know what you have with him for the bullpen. Trade Deadline you acquire a SP and move Hader to bullpen improving both with 1 move. I only have concern with Anderson, Davies being relied as you #1/2 for the '18 season. These two were, you know #4 types that are exceeding to be better than #3 coming in to the League. But hey, Wilkerson, Perrin, Ponce are shoe-ins to be worse than a #3. What if this was the oddball year for Anderson and he returns to the 4.14+Fip pitcher he was the 1st 3 seasons of his career? Davies Fip was actually higher this year than his 1st two seasons. I like Woodruff, and Hader, but the Rotation could be a rotation of #4 shambles. I argue for Lynn because of a 3.38 career ERA but it's blasted because of his weak 1st time ever Fip. Of which a lot likely came from his final 4starts of wearing down trying to give 33Starts immediately following a TJ season. If this were Nelson with the stats Lynn had up to those final 4 starts 2.94ERA, the talk would be of him being a bad SP. I'm sure if we had him posted for trade the demand would be top 20 prospect, a top 60 prospect, plus 2 others. In the FA thread the idea that he could be had for 4/56 is amazing as he's the least likely of the FAs to not produce to the value. Somehow Holland would get 4/50. A good RP, but it's not like his ERA/Fip in under 60IP make him that close in value to what Lynn provided. I seen a suggestion on Andrew Cashner who amazingly had a 4.6BWar for numbers that aren't impressive at all....unless it was in Colorado. Point being, the team needs to find a safety net with a FA signing. If Nelson were healthy, fine with what we had. But him down and who knows what future he has, there is too much riding on arms that weren't well thought of, heading in to 2017. What do you do with plans like post above, and Spring Training comes towards it's end and 1 of the 5 SP ends up heading to the 60 day or worse DL? You wind up digging at the scraps or WW that late in to the end game. One of those FAs you could have signed Cobb, Lynn, or Chatwood. to deals that won't cripple your payroll in 3 years or more, much less today. Now, all this is mute, if Stearns makes some great addition of SP via trade, and with this ML roster and prospects, he certainly can find someone out there at his price.

I have to say, it was disappointing to see multiple areas throughout the stadium emptied by the beginning of the 4th quarter. Never thought of that happening, was this a Milw game ticket package? Whatever that is called?
-
I understand we lead the League, maybe not anymore, in 1st possesion scoring. But I just feel the last 3 seasons, the playcalling for the offense is bad the first 20-25mins of game time. Then as you approach a 2min drill type offense it all just comes together. Next week, does that 2min drill type offense appear? Nope, 20-25mins of game time goes by before it happens again. It's Like McCarthy refuses to play the offense, as it works best in this league, until he has too. His short pass calling with the run game made it easy to stack the defense without fear of a deep ball and thus get the results Hundley and the offense produced.

How Do We Feel About Isan Diaz At This Point?
brewcrewdue80 replied to sheetskout's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
I'm still invested in Diaz. Some disappointment with his season, but he's got a great ceiling for a 2b. He's had some phenomenal seasons to not quit on his ability on a below expectation season. -
Why? Just why? Sure he had a very good season this year. Previous 2 years combined though were worth 2.9BWar. He's not an everyday CF. So a Corner OF with no room for that every day. You remove the depth in CF to Brett Phillips/Ozuna. And if he's a 3WAR value for 2 seasons, you've given up two CFs with cheap team control and more than likely the same War production but ceilings that can exceed that. You want to part with a top 20 prospect for that? Pass and move on. Also It's Marcell if someone can fix that.
-
How can you bundle Ponce as a #5 Ceiling? Perrin has productive numbers for a '15 late round pick. Solid year this year. Can't lable him a #5, you know what that is calling for? A 5+ERA ability and not lower. Wilkerson aside from his stint in AAA in '16 has an under 3.5ERA in every stop in the minors. Now, he's 28 so I'll give that #5 ceiling some thought, but a #4 seems more appropriate. Jungmann is a definite agree as #5 ceiling. I'd move on and use the 40man spot towards someone with a higher ceiling. I agree on looking to add a SP via FA because clearly we are thin and need more stability. I just don't agree that Wilkerson/Perrin/Ponce options are of #5 ceilings. Ponce in particular I'd argue is a #4 Floor with a #2 easy potential.
-
Yes that's true, but if the other 4 on the floor would help out Giannis by giving him pass options aside from the 3pt line maybe there'd be more fouls from the other players. Problem is they are so clumsy with catching the ball, fumble it around vs catching it cleanly ruins the moment of easy 2.
-
Frustrating watching this team. Defense isnt any better than last year. Thon Maker, Henson, Snell, Delly are poor dribbling the ball. So they are pop and shoot guys, and if dribbling, its bad....Delly sure he can score on the dribble but him venturing in to the paint looks ridiculous at times as an auto TO or blocked shot. But this game was also terrible with refs. With Giannis, in no way should Detroit outshoot Milw at the FT line by so many attempts. Im guessing Drummond had more Makes than Bucks had FTA. How unlucky is that on his consistency, didnt Howard also make far more than normal? There needs to be better ran plays to get Middleton Open! Shots. Seems to always be in a crowded middle , or someone in his face. Brogdon had a good game so thats good on his confidence. I wish Wilson would get some playing time. Id at least hope he'd be a better screen setter as well rebound hog that Maker isnt showing too well, and Henson is just slow.

Extension candidates -- who is next?
brewcrewdue80 replied to adambr2's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
You extend and use Arcia because of GG ability Defense at SS. The batting ability 1 season to the next put him in the Adrelton Simmons category. 2-3 WAR here and there but 7WAR on a good batting season which Simmons has now had 2 of in 6 seasons played. Simmons signed a 7/56mil contract essentially at the stage Arcia is at now. One could wonder on an 8/56mil contract to him Locking him up til age 30/31 season. No doubt Arcia would perform higher value than that amount but a dollar sign around that would be hard to see him not accept. Throw in mutual option for 9th year at say 16mil. Or maybe two team options at say 16 and 20. The guy is the face of this franchise very soon. -
Wow, work season and life really put me behind in investing this year. I did buy Schneider around 18 during their IPO. Loving that it's not only up, but paying dividends. An IPO stock I had bought/sold for a 30%+ gain, jumped 100+% recently in one day...but I'm not mad. Another I sold for 30+% gain is down near 90% from their 52 week high. I did buy in long term with the value, Probably 3 times the shares as before but half the cost. Pretty huge 1year ride, so I think I'll win on that down the road. Going to get back in to studying some IPOs as seasonal work ended. Update down the road on progress.
-
I'd guess something like a 3 player package that would include Mauricio Dubon + Cody Ponce or Trey Supak + an attractive fringe prospect like Zack Brown. Dubon seems like a perfect fit for Gordon trade. Ponce is too expensive on his own. Trey Supak/Zack Brown do complete a combo or trio to pair with Dubon when taking on Gordon's contract. Ponce is a 1st round SP talent. He's steadily improving and primed for a breakout year. His trade value to me is growing and trading him this offseason is selling low on him.

MLB Trade Rumors Top 50 FAs
brewcrewdue80 replied to Ron Robinsons Beard's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Arrieta for 4/100? vs. Lynn for 4/56? We'd sign away a QO to the Cubs. Why doesn't Arrieta bet on himself to actually be a 25mil guy and take the QO, and test FA next season. 14mil per for a 3WAR SP in Lynn? Way low estimate. but if that is all it costs. #1 to that! -
How Do We Feel About Gilbert Lara At This Point?
brewcrewdue80 replied to sheetskout's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Last minute List...Here we go 1 Brandon Woodruff-Excited about him. I see solid #2 forthcoming Innings eater 2 Corbin Burnes- Production needs to get recognized numbers are better than Woodruff's 3 Monte Harrison- This was the year he showed his athletic abilities translating in to baseball stud. Stud! 4 Lewis Brinson- The Ks are a concern. Highest Floor certainly, but not ceiling of current OFs. 5 Tristen Lutz- Great Pick, results promising ceiling 6 Keston Hiura- A lot to like with the bat, age puts him behind Lutz though. 7 Brett Phillips- An 80 arm and amazing to watch play in OF. Ks are a concern but he's great! 8 Luis Ortiz- Solid Arm waiting for just a little more 9 Freddy Peralta- I should probably had him above Ortiz, but this is solid regardless 10 Cody Ponce- The fact his BB rate is lower than expectations makes him one to watch! 11 Isan Diaz- Sigh, I dropped him from previous 1. Expected more 12 Lucas Erceg- 12?! Wow, and he's top 100 prospect worthy 13 Troy Stokes- I'm on board, choo choo! Producing with young age 14 Mario Feliciano- Solid bat, better defense and young! 15 Jacob Gatewood- Keep climbing! this year was a pleasure the Floor rose a lot from previous 16 Phil Bickford- I think production would happen, if he'd get Innings 17 Taylor Williams- This is a RP rank, Could turn in to a Hader/Kneble back end which is huge. 18 Caden Lemons- Potential here, Upper 90s at 6'6" that would be huge 19 Corey Ray- Disappointing is an understatement. Find me one bright side since his draft selection? Nearing extinction 20 Trent Clark- Yeah, I'm lower on him. You hope he gets there like Gatewood/Harrison next season 21 Marcos Diplan- Such a disappointing season previously a top 10 Control plus, just flew out the door to negative 22 KJ Harrison- Big bat Catcher so far 23 Josh Pennington- Velocity! For a throw in on Thornburg trade, much to like 24 Carlos Herrera- Some to like and some to dislike. Low BAA but Hi HR/9 25 Braden Webb- Like above, some to like and not like. 26 Jacob Nottingham- Ceiling has dwindled as does the ranking 27 Zack Brown- Actually produced better than Webb 28 Mauricio Dubon- No, I'm not kidding on this. I only see a Utility, not Starter 29 Adrian Houser 30 Jordan Yamamoto 31 Bubba Derby 32 Kodi Medeiros- Fallen a lot. Ceiling as SP has fallen and RP tag settling in 33 Trey Supak 34 Carlos Rodriguez It is pretty amazing how deep this system is. You can probably take groups of 5 and list them in any order, after the 1st 5.
