Winter Trade Candidates?
brewcrewdue80 replied to Mr Southpaw's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I'm at a point where we're nearing a sit and wait. Braun is the Obvious winter trade candidate. Scooter Gennett is the 2nd most likely to trade off. Garza is a sell-off on a trade so if/when it happens I expect very little in return which is why he's likely going to remain. Peralta I'd consider because he's just not bringing any upside. You can label him a #4 at this point. Maybe his finish will trigger some desire and higher return than I'd expect now. After them It's only RPs Boyer and Torres I'd try trading away just because of age and performance this year may net far higher than what they are worth. Oh and Kirk Neiuwenhuis definitely can move on from him. Also forgetting Maldonado. Gotta keep Villar, Broxton, Santana, Perez, Susac, Guerra, Davies, and Thornburg. -
Offseason Trade Partner - Tampa Bay Rays
brewcrewdue80 replied to JohnBriggs12's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
No chance Tampa would take any of our starters. Davies I'd be weary on if I'm them. NL vs AL. Can you imagine Peralta or Nelson lasting more than 5 innings? There's only a need to push for a 1b, if we traded Carter this offseason. I think they will sign him for another year. Really right now the only true trade partner are the Dodgers and what they give back in return on Braun. Once that trade happens and we see the prospect return we can figure out the other positions to fill needs. Meaning, Cody Bellinger makes any suggestion on Gillapsie mute. Different if we get Urias or De Leon and not the hitting prospects. And there's still that what about Braun moving to 1st base if he remains on the team thought. (this thinking trade Carter by trade deadline/Braun to 1st/& callup Brinson or Phillips. -
1. Isan Diaz-My Favorite in the system now with Arcia gone 2. Josh Hader-Ks, Ks, Ks! Think he'll translate well 3. Luis Ortiz- Well, we have him He's very good..Just hope he stays in healthy weight. 4. Marcos Diplan-Very Deserving, flying under radar for a former top rating International Pitcher. Only 20 there's still projection coming 5. Phil Bickford-Hard Thrower who I like. 6. Lewis Brinson- Like Corey Ray I'm not high on the overalls. Low tools for 5 tools. 7. Lucas Erceg-Could be best pick of entire 2016 draft. 8. Brett Phillips- Big fan still feel like he'll bounce back over take Brinson 9. Trent Clark-Lot of faith here. 10. Brandon Woodruff- Seems a popular picking. Has numbers to confirm. 11. Corey Ray-Like Brinson I just feel 5 tools but none excels ceiling-wise. 12. Monte Harrison-With that, I think he has louder tools forthcoming, Stay Healthy My Friend! 13. Gilbert Lara-I'm sad he's here. One of these years please put it together. 14. Jorge Lopez-Gotta be a bounceback in there. 15. Kodi Medeiros- Still has lots of time to amaze 16. Freddy Peralta- Like Woodruff, produces. He'd be higher if taller. 17. Jake Nottingham-Thump in a Catcher's bat 18. Cody Ponce-There's a future. Keeps up the 5ERA it'll be as a RP but a good one 19. Nate Kirby-When will his career start 20. Brewers with lowest payroll in Majors for 2016
brewcrewdue80 replied to molitor fan's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Getting what you pay for this year. Only 1 playoff team on that list is under 100million. Cleveland at 96.3. The avg of the 10 teams to make is 161.16mil Remove highest and lowest LA/Clv is drops to just 158.19mil. 12 teams total on this had payroll under 100million. 5 of them were between 96-100. Leaves just 7 teams below 90mil and as can be expected 6 of 7 of them in the bottom 10 W/L record for 2016 Cincy, Philly, Oak, Atl, Tam, and Milw. Miami at 79wins 14th worst record. That's 60mil roughly on the lower 1/3 of the League in payroll. Which is 60% over their total team payroll. That's the equivalent of the upper 20 teams having 40man game day roster on the season vs 25. -
Villar likely to play 2nd Base in 2017
brewcrewdue80 replied to Matt Breen's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Villar is a switch hitter. If he's replacing Gennett, the lost LHB of Gennett isn't a loss. You gain the ability of having your platoon 2b to pair with Gennett without having to have Gennett and have the LHB still. Isan Diaz is a LHB. Tucker Neuhaus/Lucas Erceg/Chad McClanahan LHBs Kyle Wren, Brett Phillips, and Corey Ray LHBs FWIW so is Cody Bellinger/Alex Verdugo/Willie Calhoun/Gavin Lux should we nab one of the Dodgers top batting prospects. What it means is, Gennett's bat from the LH side and the 2017 season Roster of bats not having much to choose from on the LH side should not be concerned nor reason to keep his bat. LHBats seem to be addressed for the future. -
Arbitration projections per MLBTR
brewcrewdue80 replied to JohnBriggs12's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I see no way Carter is a future value to 8.1 million. That projection is terrible. He did not increase his value over 5million this last season and If his Agent and him asked for 8.1million in Arb and I'm Milwaukee I'm tendering a 5mil flat offer and not negotiating. That Arbitrator should easily be able to see Carter isn't worth the hefty increase in pay and side with Milwaukee at 5million. Isn't there a general scale to these arb salaries? Something like 40-60-80 of a value to FA price tag? Or, comparable players salaries for similar production that reached Arb. If 1WAR is 8mil Carter would be in line for about 4.8million then only. Being on his 60% year for Arb. If you take Mark Trumbo as a comparison and Carter being 1 year behind him, Trumbo received 6.9mil the year of service Carter would be reaching. And only 9.15 this past year. Trumbo isn't just an everyday 1b and plays OF which increases his value compared to Carter. 8.1million is not what Carter will approach in Arb this offseason. Surprised if it exceeds 7million. and if it were to reach 7mil as Carter's side and Brewer's side goes with that 4.8mil, the middle agreement reach sans an Arbitrator ruling would be 5.9mil then. -
The money saved in payroll I'd assume leads to an upgrade like this. There is likely data showing how much profit is made with food/beverage during games, so an upgrade that will pay itself back over time. I'd likely expect a $1 increase in beer but comes with more selections as well as the food options doubling throughout the park.

Along the lines of my sentiments. I think the Pitching market will be so scrapyard looking and 2-3year deals being asked for by these scrapheaps that Garza's 5mil option for 2018 and 1mil potential makes him very attractive buy low option for trade. Just keep in mind Kyle Lohse was signed and pitched briefly and horribly for Texas! That's the desperation multiple teams will have. Miami comes to mind. The Sad loss of Jose Fernandez and Andrew Cashner being a FA. They are putting Adam Conley or Wei-Yen Chen atop their Rotation? They'll look for a Garza type fill-in who's been atop of the team's rotation experience. Who'd they get back in return, I don't know, depends on the Cash that exchanges hands. At the moment MLB only has Miami has having just 1 top 100 prospect, trading away 1 in Josh Naylor for Andrew Cashner plus non-100s prospects. Cashner certainly didn't post a better recent numbers than what Garza has in '14&15. So, I wouldn't put Garza out of the realm of possibility as a Negative value when half a season of Cashner attained that return.

The 2017 MLB Draft Thread (#9 Pick + #34 & #46)
brewcrewdue80 replied to ZBTMP's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Inside of the top 10, As good as I can hope for. Jeff Hoffman was something like a top 3 pick until injury created a drop to 9. Kyle Lewis, Groome, Rutherford were available still at 9. in '15 my two favorites Whitley and Allard were still available. '14 Hoffman, Conforto, and Trea Turner were available. The opportunity to get someone we likely believe won't be there at #4 or 5 much less 9 is there. The pick is protected Look forward to draft day! -
Theres our answer. MLBTR has posted the Phillies will look to add a veteran arm for next season. Garza would be a solid fit for that. Plus his option likely a no-brainer to them. Havent looked at their prospects. But say you are willing to eat 3-8million next year for a bigger return, Im sure would net a positive.

What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Not sure what your source is, but Braun has a 3.3 WAR this year and 2.9 WAR last year according to Fangraphs, combined 6.2. If you extended it out to 3, it would be a total of 7 WAR for Braun and 7.9 for Puig. I'm not saying Puig is the more valuable commodity in a Braun/Puig deal, but that's how easy it is to manipulate statistics to say what you want. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/braunry02.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/puigya01.shtml By now, if you read my posts towards WAR should have an idea that I'm talking about Baseball-reference. Also you see the B in front of WAR stands for Baseball-Reference WAR. Fangraphs WAR is FWAR After going back and forth with the two, I just agree more to what Baseball-Reference rates to a player vs Fangraphs which as you can see is vastly varying. Fangraphs obviously far overrates Defense. Braun has 220chances via BRef in 125 games. That is under 2 chances a game. PAs in same time? 555 as of now. 1.76 chances defensively a game. 4.44PAs offensively per game. That's 2.52-1 Offensively to Defensively impact a game. Keep in mind that Fangraphs has Negative rankings to both Puig and Braun for the OF to Average. Mike Trout if you take Fangraphs seriously on Defense is exactly Avg combined the last 4 seasons. Take away 2012 and he'd be below avg as a player according to them for his career. So I don't like FWAR in comparison to BWAR. Plush has said Puig was 5WAR his 1st two seasons. Fangraphs has him as 4.1 his Rookie year. Would make Puig a 4WAR player his 1st season. BWAR at 4.9 and 5.3 agrees to 5WAR in his statement. -
What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
You can't say any of the best prospects from the Dodgers with Plush around, He's convinced 2years of Puig if far more valuable than 4years of Braun. I agree on Yadier Alvarez with him, but that's due to they paid just as much money for him as they did Puig. That cost the Dodgers 2years of International signings. Just don't get somehow some way, Braun at 8.2BWar the last 2years combined and Puig 2.4WAR in last 2 years are I guess of equal value, with Puig being more valuable because of age and 5WAR seasons 2years ago. Also when Puig is coming back to his 5WAR+ ability immediately when becoming Brewer, he must also be dropping his cancer clubhouse presence that the Dodgers are desperately trying to rid of. At the same time Plush won't reveal all his cards and suggest who he believes the 2 prospects should be but they certainly don't contain any of the Dodgers top 8 from what I can tell. -
Way Too Early 2017 Predictions/Hopes
brewcrewdue80 replied to Greenleaf1's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Hopes, simple No SP suffers TJ surgery next season. Prediction of: Villar-2b Broxton-CF Santana-LF Carter-1b Perez-3b Kirk N/Puig-RF Arcia-SS Susac-C *lineup as well Nelson, Davies, Guerra, Anderson, X-Factor/Dodger SP SPs. Gone will be Braun, Maldonado, Garza, Gennett, and Peralta. -
What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Sheffield and Lux couldn't be options at the time of previous talks. They will be after the World Series. Barnes I have no reason to want with the Catcher glut we have. Bellinger would be a great addition, but Adrian Gonzalez has only 2years left on his contract and his bat took a decline. Which makes a Braun Bat all that more welcome to the Dodgers. But figure Bellinger is in AAA all next season and plays if/when needed due to injury. Makes De Leon all the more expect in the Braun Trade. -
Trading for Francisco Mejia from the Tribe.
brewcrewdue80 replied to HighHeat19's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I think when Mejia wasn't acquired with Lucroy's block, the trade for Andrew Susac became the answer at catcher. He and Manny Pina I expect to be the Starting duo next season with Maldonado being traded this offseason. Had Lucroy not blocked the deal, I'll say the Brewers don't acquire Susac and keep Maldonaldo with Pina as backup. -
What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
You keep believing this notion as if The Brewers are the only team that didnt accept/agree to the trade. Why? The Brewers have no reason to force a trade at that deadline. The Dodgers though, they have to complete the trade so Braun could be on their playoff roster. Logically to me, the Dodgers were asked to give up Urias or DeLeon and under their pitching situation with the injuries and Urias already exceeding the original Innings limit, couldnt agree to it. Deleon was called up to start after the deadline, winning his first two starts. Big wins at the time for the Division Race. They needed a SP more at that moment than Braun's bat. Negotiations can go, I'll give you this for that....Ok. And then back out of the agreement. -
I got to watch a few of his starts on tv. And his Stuff was as good as Stephen Strasburg when he amazed as a rookie before TJ. Fernandez still had that, Strasburg lost it. I remember describing JF's curves as a 1to 7.not 12-6. RIP, to me I dunno if there was any brighter star getting close to take stage. Kershaw/Fernandez and Id rather watch Jose. Numb and shocked the feelings.

Wasn't a fan of Perez' PH ab, 2 men on 3-1, fouls off a ball that would have hit him, then swings at a ball that was closer to his ankles than the strike zone for 3rd out. ABs like that and unable to take Ball 4 leaves me to believe more luck on guessing than on a batters eye. Not someone I see as Starter. I'd try to trade him back to Detroit, be their backup utility for SS and 3b. Gerson Moreno Hard throwing Bullpen arm.

What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Alvarez is a no. He is a prospect on the rise and people like to compare him to Urias and some even like him more. We are just not getting that kind of prospect for Braun. That is before considering they paid $32mil to sign Alvarez. I also think Bellinger/DeLeon is wishful thinking. Sure we don't know for sure, but if we got offered a guy like that why didn't we finish the deal? I think it would/will be around lesser prospects. Maybe a Calhoun/Buehler and some other guys I think of are Jordan Sheffield/Will Smith/Brock Stewart. If we got one of the first two plus one from the last group along with Puig that would be a pretty good day. Not sure what to think of Attanasio's comment. I mean what is he suppose to say? "Nope I want him gone."? "Yes he will be back." only to trade him making fans angry? Weird he was so talkative on the topic honestly. Or why the deal wasn't done in time is The Brewers asked for 1 of the 3 and the Dodgers balked at the finish line. It takes both teams to accept a trade offer and as has been said a long time, Stearns asking price was "too Much" for Lucroy or any trade pieces the Brewers had recently. Just because the deal didn't happen doesn't mean it was the Brewers who made the deal not happen. Maybe a Walker Buehler or Josh SBorz was agreed upon and the List of those 3, 1 to be included was the Dodgers who couldn't decide whom to part with. Keep in mind, near the deadline, the Dodgers were without Rich Hill and Scott Kazmir, who I believe had his return delayed right about then. Making a SP like De Leon, a necessary backup option. -
Playoff matchup to get to Championship. My team hadnt batted below .232 in any single week matchup. So of course-.167/227 this week.OB worse than worst BA week. Lead League with .287BA. If I dont win to take 3rd next week Ill have won $0 this year, while winning the most Cats, But far fewer Ties that had me finish 3rd 5.5games from 1st. I may have to take a break from Fantasy Baseball. 3 of 5seasons in this League, 4th and no money. Won it all last season so puts me just above even.

The 2017 MLB Draft Thread (#9 Pick + #34 & #46)
brewcrewdue80 replied to ZBTMP's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
About Bautista, It was some kind of Eye PED. I recall when his season occurred, some story run by ESPN was on some new Eye training that led to hitters doing better. I don't remember if it was someone like David Ortiz or Manny Ramirez but I feel someone along them was also praising the eye training. Or PED eye training. -
What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I didn't realize Tate had fallen so far. I recall him starting out something like 13IP 0ERA 20ks to like 1 or 2 BBs. I tell ya, the Yankees after the trades of Chapman, Miller, and Beltran getting Frazier, Torres, Tate, McKinney, drafting Rutherford. and having 300mil to spend whenever they want. They are going to corner the market if they continue this minor League building to supplement their FA spending. Braun doesn't have to .900 OPS to get the return Beltran got. As said Beltran as a Yankee had a .797OPS for his 2.6seasons time. Upper .800s prior to trade deadline this season. Fully expect Braun to continue being around the .800 OPS mark in 3 or 4 years. He doesn't K a bunch, takes his walks and hits the ball to all fields. Obviously still possesses power. The holes as well as the common hitting concerns aren't there. Injuries do heal, If they didn't, we'd have about 60% less SPs in the League than now(random number guess) due to TJ elbows. Braun has had surgery and can continue to heal through it. If he only plays 135 games a season, what's that matter if you're a Playoff team? Braun would make it through a Playoff series with all the days off that occurs. His bat would certainly be exceptional option to have for a 7game series. I think too often, there's the thought of what adding Braun to this franchise at 4/76mil with our history, and not the thought of teams who buy to win. The Yankees since 1992 have not had a season record below .500. Boston 7times since 1992. San Fran 9 times. LA Dodgers 4 times. Milwaukee, 17 heading for 18 times. These teams are near locks for Playoff potential and don't need to plan so much for the 162game season like us. They can already start putting together the Playoff roster. What so and so can do in a 7game stretch. Or Given 2 Games started in a series. Why Boston went with Hanley Ramirez or Pablo Sandoval? Both over .900OPS in the post-season. -
What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Sorry, you are taking this wrong. In the supposed, His value in trade can't be higher than now, and we must trade him this offseason, what good does he do remaining on the team 2+ seasons from now. When we'd be competing. Well, The Yankees are still competing and managed to trade away a 39yr old for a top 40 prospect/#4 draft pick....Higher and better potential player than what we got for Lucroy/Jeffress. This won't be the end all trade ability for Braun. I say that in meaning, if Jose De Leon or Julio Urias is not 1 of the prospects returned in trading Braun, then there's your example to holding on to Braun and trading him as his contract becomes 1-2 years instead of 4. -
What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Puig=2years of team control. Braun=4years+1option year of team control. Yes I'd take Braun's 4/80 over Puig's 2/16.45 contract and control. There's the deferred payments and already the payment of Braun's signing bonus which for Milwaukee means less than 4/80 impact. The contract on Braun lessens after two seasons so if he production reduces even to an .800 OPS vs .900 he's not grossly making too much money for the production. 4years/80 for other teams, sure can be a risk, but in 2seasons 2/34million isn't as bad a risk should you convince Braun to accept a trade. Maybe we're not as close to contending(Mets-itis of TJs) and Braun in twilight of career seeks out a contender his last 2 seasons+ potential option season. So while he'll have 10-5 rights, he's open to a trade to a contender. Whatever happens, after 2018 Braun can still be traded. If you're going to hold onto Braun for 2 more years, you might as well hold onto him for 4 and hope for the best. If he's still producing, by then we should be close to contention and want to keep him anyway. If he's not, he won't be worth nearly as much anyway. By waiting 2 more years on Braun, you're risking injury, decline, and Braun gaining more leverage through 10/5 rights. Doesn't make much sense to me. I have a hard time seeing his value in the next 4 years being much if any higher than it is now, but I could see it getting a lot, lot lower. I've yet 2 pages to read but to reply to this. And among far to many others. Injury risk, production risk, age risk. Got it. How did that work for a competing team? such as the Yankees this season? They traded away Carlos BEltran. and got 2015's #4 pick Dillon Tate+....Nick Green&Eric Swanson. Beltran, a 39 yr old, 15million salary, 2.4BWAR over his 3 seasons with the Yankees .797OPS. Yes someone who last exceeded 4BWAR was as a 31yr old got that kind of return without money being exchanged. Mr. Braun at 32 now is approaching 5BWAR this season. And he'll be making 15million when 36. Now forget David Ortiz and share the comparison of that right there. Dillon Tate, a SP I said was untouchable start of July, Was traded for an aging, not wholly productive Carlos Beltran AND 2 others. Take that Braun Haters on the miniscule trade offers you think is Braun's value. -
You also risk getting a Johnny Hellweg and Ariel Pena return for a surer thing that is Thornburg. You answered that yourself, by already labeling Bickford as a RP even though he's still starting at the moment. Prospects are just that. Thornburg still has 3years of team control. I'm not saying he can't be traded ever and has to live out his contract as a Brewer. But his current ability, far exceeds the next Brewer RP current and future. It took him 2 injured seasons to reach this level during a Healthy season. Sounds potentially like? Corey Kneble. You gotta back the truck up to make it worth trading Thornburg this offseason. At this moment, When he's gone, I don't see a shutdown RP for the 8th or 9th innings and Milwaukee is looking at 2012 potential the next season or two or ongoing. Edit add:John Axford still brought to the team Michael Blazek who is probably #2 behind Thornburg/Kneble right now as Closer. This was someone showing absolutely nothing of stat producing, and still got that kind of return. So Thornburg regressing or not, after this year, has value for the next 2.5seasons. Even Chapman's half year brought back Cubs #1 prospect+3. There's a lot of time to cash in on Thornburg or keep him should we rapidly climb in contending
