Simulated 2020 Baseball Season (JosephC)
brewcrewdue80 replied to JosephC's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I think I counted Yelich as 3 for his last 28. Maybe it was 4 for 28. There's your weakness. Looking at much of the other batters, Urias is really coming on, Cain as been very consistent, Hiura is around where you'd expect to him be. It's as if everyone but Yelich is having a better last 10games than season norms. The lack of HRs on the team nearing Halfway is lousy. Yelich at .250 with 15HRs tells me somebody dislikes him after his last 2 seasons. BRef has him at a far more logical .313/.421/.575-.996OPS line with 18HRs. He must be barely at .800 OPS if not under honestly in this sim. Essentially the sim is likely about the worst you can predict for the Brewers 2020 season without significant injuries causing the record. I could see a run coming of wins if Suter returns to rotation and Yelich approaches the real Yelich vs the predraft Yelich version here. -
2020 Undrafted Free Agent Signings
brewcrewdue80 replied to Eye Black's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Not the best at hiding the ball. I would guess the ability to locate down low for strikes is appealing, but at the FB speed and easy to see pitches, he may just be a warm body. -
Here's a clever idea on the whole Kneeling during the National Anthem. Stop it and provide a 2min period at the end of the first half to kneel on the field. Players can or they can just head in to the locker room. You can do this at halftime for NBA games, after the 1st or 2nd period in Hockey. And just overall after a baseball game ends. Instead of celebrating a victory or in the losers case kneeling in front of their dugout. Why does it have to be done during the National Anthem? The act of Kneeling upon halftime is going to get media attention and that's the point right? Bring this cause to attention?

2020 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5
brewcrewdue80 replied to Eye Black's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Okay, watching the videos from the signing thread. Zamora looks sound with the bat. I'm really surprised we got him, the ACL injury must be a serious concern. Warren the Catcher, the video and swing doesn't impress me. He has the batter's eye approach, which can work at catcher. Wiemer, whew boy, I see it. That is a huge boom or bust. His arms start high and then he sets himself at a great level and swing speed is woosh. That hitch move, I think if he can find a way to shorten the timing on it, he could take off. Get his lower body a little more underneath him, reduce the leg kick. He just has too many moving parts and a simpler motion with his bat speed could lead to huge success. Cantrelle's highlights look like a hitter. A gamer. I dunno what his deal was this season that he played, but I find him already looking better than Scooter Gennett. Spraying the ball to all fields. Scott Kingery comes to mind on the gamer look and highlights. He's my pick at 3rd most likely ML and I wouldn't think it crazy to actually put him 2nd if Zamora's ACL affects his skills. What a great pick, seriously. -
2020 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5
brewcrewdue80 replied to Eye Black's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
I think the draft and strategy was done extremely well. 1st 2 picks are just about given to reach and contribute at the ML. The next 3 are upside picks where talent is present, just the ability to harness is lacking. They covered CF, SS, C/3b, a corner OF, and 2b/SS. So basically if these guys take off in a 3-4year timeline, you could fit them on the team at the same time. I also wonder on the college picks due to the minor league contractions forthcoming. I dunno where Milw stands on teams maybe to lose but you may not want a hefty number of Rookie level teenagers in your system right now and placing this group of draftees in A ball right away. -
2020 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5
brewcrewdue80 replied to Eye Black's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
THE BOARD for 2020 Draft I reposted this in the other thread it was a link on original post by Eye Black. The rankings i see from prior page are modestly different. This link does list the heights of players. From this link a height size preference of mine and value for around Brewers pick, plus quick draft profile video. I am thinking on two HS pitchers. 45 is a 6'6" lhp Dax Fulton. Currently sits 91/92. And a CB that shows movement. 6-6 I tend worry on delivery' but the profile reads his is a 3/4 slot and well balanced. I thought the video was solid and picking up his ball seemed a little tougher vs my other target: #72 Alejandro Rosario 6'1" RHP that at 96 throwing. I immediately see a closer out of the mound presence and hard throwing. The ranking from Eye Black earlier shows him in the 90s vs this 72. This list really sees a good number of CF or pitchers around the Brewers next pick. I wouldnt think they would double up on CF, so a pitcher seems the better get. Also with the success of pitchers on Milw, I think a HS target(Fulton I think read was a top prep for the class prior to TJ while 17) is more fitting draft and develop. Note the list will have a HS Cade Horton also around the Brewers pick but hes committed to Oklahoma for baseball and football. 71 is a Markevian Hence but only 5'11" and I shy away from the short stature types on draft and develop. -
2020 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5

If you read all the reports above it said Mitchell had a 12% k rate. Ray was always somebody who was a higher K rate potential in the 20s that sits in the 30s or higher at times today. So while Ray may have been a projected .245/.315/.490 type Mitchell is going to be more in line at .280/.340/.440 type. I said in the other draft thread, nothing but good vibes for this draft. My last post mentioned they may get a BPA slide to them who they will offer full slot to, I'd think Mitchell qualifies. I like it. Crow Armstrong was a player I thought would seem to fit, Mitchell is the higher projected of the two. Armstrong went 19th. Team has a bigger need currently for a position player future hitter after Ray's bust. You could maybe dream outcomes on him being a Joc Pederson, or a Cody Bellinger depending on how the plus power comments during BP are reflected in games at the ML level. He will steal more bases so maybe you go on a Lorenzo Cain projection line. New Decade, we may have drafted the Franchise's best 1st round pick for this decade! -
2020 MLB Draft Thread (Pre-Draft Discussion)
brewcrewdue80 replied to Eye Black's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
I was thinking the same thing. the NFL does this pretty well. To play all of these games the teams do. Draft 1st round below slot. draft 2nd and maybe 3rd well above and then draft easy signings through the 5th is pretty crazy. They are technically in the infancy stage with this current style. The attempt was there to level the playing field and giving direct value of the pick. The games played how teams manipulated this structure may not have been all that well predicted when creating this draft structure. I mean, you cant trade standard picks. Imo at a 6÷-8mil draft pick value of top 5 picks and considering the hit/miss rate of even a top 10 selection, why not draft 2 players who fit a 9-25 BPA on your draft board with the value of your 1st pick? Now youre likely to have one of two make you ML team in the future and increased rate theyll be better than just a 1WAR kind of player. So that said and taking the hard slot value, trading picks during a draft could be the solution. They just havent evolved to this yet. -
2020 MLB Draft Thread (Pre-Draft Discussion)
brewcrewdue80 replied to Eye Black's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
BA just made a rumor post a team will not sign their 1st rd pick and take the extra pick next season. By rules they have to offer up an amount of the slot value in order to get that comp. I think 40% but maybe its 60%? Also noted many offers will be below slot value is the gist they're hearing. Maybe this will work in the Brewers favor seeing number of BPA fall in to their draft slot who they offer full slot to. Id think a team like the Royals or Pirates drafting early with that high slot bonus would be the type to BA's rumor on not signing or well below slot. Marlins, Tigers. Probably a whole lot of the top 14 picks, slot values over 4mil. Consider that is more than the ML avg salary in previous years but be well over avg in 2020. -
2020 July 2 Signing Rumors
brewcrewdue80 replied to Spencer Michaelis's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Chourio was given a very similar breakdown as he has in the others, but there were 4 new players listed. Two more Venezuelan shortstops named Gregory Barrios and Daniel Guilarte. Barrios is, “a switch-hitter with good baseball instincts, playing a sound shortstop with smooth actions in the field to go with a high-contact bat and good feel for the strike zone for 16.” Guilarte is said to have, “good bat-to-ball skills from the right side of the plate and a good offensive approach. He's an above-average runner with a strong arm and should stay at the position.” Then they’re connected to two Dominican outfielders named Hendry Mendez and Manuel Vargas. They say Mendez is, “ a 6-foot-3 corner outfielder who impressed some scouts with his bat and power potential, though he was up-and-down with his offensive performance at big events.” And that he is in line for a high 6-figure bonus. Vargas, “has hit well during games in the Dominican Republic, making frequent contact with a line-drive, all-fields approach.” 6'3" as a 16yr old? He'll be 6'7"+ by time matures -
Unlimited fed printing and 0% interest rates really does wonders for a fake stock market doesn’t it? Oops sorry I was supposed to say “stimulates the economy.” 2020 pumping stocks is what 2019 was except all roided up. *Typing this as the futures are green and were on about 12 days in a row of the same exact “pumping stock futures at night and green markets all day long.” This bothers me also, but then again the Dow is based on 30 companies. My stock watch has lost one stock, and I feel at least 2 more are due to disappear or be bought out and absorbed. I imagine there are a few sectors that have or will be hit hard, but come the Dow 30, 3months is but a blip to them, I imagine the majority was deemed essential and business generally moved right on along.

2020 MLB Draft Thread (Pre-Draft Discussion)

Why the hell are we trading Hader and Knebel in the offseason? We need to build our bullpen around those two horses. Kneble would become a FA after 2021 currently. Hader will be yr2 of Super two arb in 2021. The return value would be higher while saving likely over 10mil in payroll. It's the narrative on Tampa Bay & trades. Sell em high value and keep churning out talent from those returns. 7 of last 12 seasons 90wins or greater with only 2 below 80wins for Tampa. -
2020 MLB Draft Thread (Pre-Draft Discussion)
brewcrewdue80 replied to Eye Black's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
I read either a Fangraphs article or a Baseball america story that this draft will be about College Pitching arms. Supposedly a belief that this college group is the best for a draft in a long time(or ever) Essentially it was something like the 8th or 9th best college arm is better than the college arm that was picked first last season, a season believed to be near the worst for college arms in draft. Just about 1 week away. I don't see a way on thinking the Brewers can lose on this draft. The system is depth filled without any major stars currently. Any pick has to improve the system from any position. With the pitching strength of young controlled starters and the pitchers selected in Small and Kelley in 2019, one would think they might focus on a position player. The other way to look at it, is a Tampa Rays fill the system with pitcher potentials as strong trade value when it works out at the ML level. Just think this next offseason, trading Hader and Kneble would bring in a haul, next up Rasmussen/Feyereisen for the roles. -

Protect your 15 Brewers for the 2021 Expansion Draft
brewcrewdue80 replied to Matt Breen's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
15 names to keep and protect. So The top easiest on keeps in order would have to be: 1. Yelich 2. Hiura 3. Hader 4. Woodruff 5. Peralta 6. Urias 7. Houser 8. Lauer 9. Narvaez 10.Burnes 11.Kneble 12.Suter Honestly after that I don't more. These 12 are my priority and Suter honestly is just to get to 12. Last three to keep I have to say Cain, Garcia, and Brock Holt. 2 expansion teams drafting players and I look at Cain and gotta say for his price and age, I would think those teams could do better. Same with Garcia. 1b is something that is easily filled. I choose Holt last because he could be an OF replacing Garcia, a 3b or a 1b. My top 12 are starters, most with over 2 years of control beyond 2020. Protecting guys from our minors? Nobody is really a top 100 so again, what is the likelihood these two teams pick from our minors. The other 29 teams have to select 15 players to protect, most have got to be among their 26man. I mean think about that. 11players at minimum from every team's 26man will be exposed. Going off a list of teams with multiple top 100 prospects: Tampa with 8 San Diego with 6 Atlanta with 6 Seattle with 6 LA Dodgers with 6 Minnesota with 6 Detroit has 4 and being a rebuilding team should have no problem protecting. Arizona has 4 Miami has 4 but I'd imagine they can protect them Kansas City has 4 but also can likely protect them San Fran Giants have 3 and should easily protect them Baltimore has 4 and should be able to protect them Chicago White Sox have 4 Toronto has 4 Oakland has 3 Cincy has 3 Phillies have 2 Houston has 2 Cleveland has 2 Yankees have 2 Texas has 2 Pittsburgh has 3 Colorado has 3 St. Louis has 2 LA Angels have 2 Washington has 2 26 teams that will no doubt have to save 1 Minor Leaguer but the teams with 4+, that's at least 2 if not 3 saving. Now you're down 12players you protect on your ML team. The Rays, Braves, Dodgers, Mariners, Twins and Padres are competitive teams heading in to 2020. What are they going to protect? the ML team or the Minor league youthful? So for the Brewers, they are likely the least affected team in an Expansion draft, something that maybe you can pat Stearns on the back if he set up the 2020 roster with a looming expansion thought process in mind. -
Simulated 2020 Baseball Season (JosephC)
brewcrewdue80 replied to JosephC's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Gotta love that fresh arm means 1 day optioned. Basicallt every 2games Rasmussen or Feyereisen are optioned for one another. In the latest it was one game. That's clearly ignoring the rules. And both accumulate IP with the minor league team optioned to so reality is these arms arent likely fresh. Isnt it supposed to be 10 days on options unless injury creates the recall need? Also the simulation seems to bounce the two from long relief to closer since they fail at both. Think they should be sending down a position player and keep both up(Id rather a new pitcher) simulation is such poor managing. If this simulation was really happening for 2020 season Im certain majority here would want both CC and Stearns fired by now. -
2020 MLB Draft Thread (Pre-Draft Discussion)
brewcrewdue80 replied to Eye Black's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
A third publication in the past week has paired the Brewers with Georgia right-hander Cole Wilcox. CBS Sports: 2020 MLB Mock Draft: Arizona State slugger Spencer Torkelson goes No. 1 to Tigers 20. Milwaukee Brewers: RHP Cole Wilcox, Georgia ($3,242,900 slot value) Georgia's rotation will produce two first-round picks this year in Hancock and Wilcox. Wilcox has wicked stuff and command, though he can be very inconsistent from start-to-start. It's worth nothing that, as a draft-eligible sophomore, he has more leverage than the typical draftee. That could push him down even later in the first round as teams seek players they know they can sign quickly and easily. Our R.J. Anderson ranked Wilcox as the No. 30 prospect in the draft class. Reading from the RJ Anderson ranking, I'd have to wonder on Stearns looking for the OFs that could replace Cain. Garrett Mitchell, Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Robert Hassell would sound to be that type of replacement with chances of being there at 20. I'm really not going to get to caught up on who is selected. Seems a number of Catchers are around top 50, many pitchers, a few duo types, not many 1b/3b. Teams are going to have what? just 5 picks? Oh well some with 6 or 7(Cardinals of course) I don't really see the draft a 2nd round type with 1st pick and then hoping a talent falls that you bundle savings with your 2nd(or 3rd) round pick to sign. I suppose the teams that have the Comp A pick with a top 12 pick for round 2 could try that with the 1st round selection. (KC, SD, Pitt, and Col) It's still a long wait between pick 1 and pick 2. You gotta keep in mind nothing is guaranteed for 2021 playing season. Draftees could miss out on playing before next season's draft. I'd have doubts on a drafted player not signing with any team that selected them to return or go to college. If there's a BPA draft format this has to be the year to just do so. -
Simulated 2020 Baseball Season (JosephC)
brewcrewdue80 replied to JosephC's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Hmm. Bullpen MVPs reading page 5 to here are Feyereisen and Rasmussen. It's comical. Rasmussen having parts to all 3 losses vs Marlins gets optioned for Feyereisen who promptly throws a bad outing. I think is how it went. Rasmussen pitching the following game. Poor outing recall JPF. The simulation is awful. I'll probably check in again around 1/2 way through the season just to further see how awful it is. On BRef's version Hiura has a worse BA than 3 Brewer pitchers. Credit and appreciation that you've put this work together. Far too cringy for me to take any of as a realm of a possible season. -
Hi and Tight: Without quoting the long response the site and Aaron Rodgers is this: https://overthecap.com/player/aaron-rodgers/1085/
-
It's a small amount of games, Im not too worried on who bats DH and how big an advantage or disadvantage it will be. Braun seems the true fit. Hiura a fit if we're looking at Urias at 2b and Arcia SS. Really it probably fills itself out most of the time via somebody partially injured who can bat but playing defense becomes an issue. When it comes to pitching, gone would be a decision pulling your starter for a critical early game at bat gamble. Something I wonder on having the pitchers throw 100pitches/6+IP in start. They're not going to come close to 150IP much less 200IP. Could even be talking 110-115pitches. Forget the statistics and let a guy throwing a shutout-2run game go out for another Inning. Id actually really like CC to do that this season with guys like Lauer, Houser, Peralta, Burnes if he reached SP level. Gain the experience oc throwing deep in a game on a high pitch count and see the true results vs the statistical projection. I have no care really what the team's W/L record will be this year. It's a throwaway season. The only gratification I could give towards a team winning the WS is that team did so on like a .700+ record. Just dominated. They play say 66games and win 35 and make the playoffs all the way to a WS, huge meh Asterisk. It will always be exclaimed the Covid19 season luck accomplishment. I'd have to actually be rooting for a tank season because what is the draft class going to look like in 2021? Seeing as it's gotta include bonus talent, what 1.6? times the normal draft pool? There'll be guys with 4th-6th round potential in this draft who wont be drafted and get a year to maybe improve velo a tick a two or add power that make them a 1st rd draft grade besides all the 1st rd draft grades that the 2021 class was going to have. Add in what is the situation by 2021 with Internationals and the draft?

San Francisco was about ~8 minutes away from winning the Super Bowl last year with Garoppolo ($26.6M cap hit) taking up 12.87% of their cap. In 2016 Tom Brady signed a contract that was worth an average of over $20M/year when the salary cap was $155M. I don't have the info of exactly what the cap hit was each year, but that average salary was over 13% of their cap. That's not much different than a $30M cap hit on a $200M cap. In 2015, Manning was taking up about 12% of the Bronco's cap. Last year Garoppolo's cap hit represented just 8.65% of SF's cap and Maholmes took up just 2.36% of KC's cap... https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/positional/2019/quarterback/ In the salary cap era, the highest percentage paid to the Super Bowl winning QB came in the first year of the cap, 1994, when Steve Young accounted for 13.1% of the 49ers cap... https://ftw.usatoday.com/2018/02/nfl-quarterback-salaries-salary-cap-kirk-cousins-free-agency The article is 2 years old so here are the cap percentages spent on QBs for the past 2 Super Bowl winners... 2018 - NE - Brady - 12.4% 2019 - KC - Mahomes - 2.36% Here's what percentage of the cap Aaron Rodgers will eat up in the coming seasons... 2020 - 11.28% 2021 - 17.77% 2022 - 16.11% Rodgers is under the historic max threshold of Super Bowl winning QBs for 2020 and there's nothing that can be done about 2021's ugly percentage. But if they trade him after this coming season that ugly number in 2022 and the also ugly 2023 number goes away. There's pretty compelling evidence that you're chances of winning a Super Bowl are much better if you're allocating under 10% of your cap to your QB. The average cap percentage by Super Bowl winning QBs is around 7%. It allows you to field a better overall roster. And it definitely shows that the percentage of the cap that Rodgers will consume from 2021 through 2023, will make it very hard for the Packers to put together a deep roster. That goes away and opens a window of low QB cap dollars from 2022-2024 if Love pans out and allows Rodgers to be moved after this coming 2020 season. Brady cap hit is a result of being team friendly with his contracts. Mahomes is on a Rookie deal and you have gotta know within 2 or 3 years his contract will exceed 12%. Same can likely be said in terms on Philly's win. Manning's SBs with Denver on cap hits over 12%. Newton his opponent in the SB win was over 12% Matt Ryan in 2017 loss to Brady was 14.2% cap hit. Goff was a rookie contract in 2018. Garoppolo was 10.6% last season. 20+% for '18 and 13.5, 12.6, 11.9 these next 3 seasons. Russell Wilson was in Rookie Contract years of his SBs and now is making 14% or more 2019-2023. Salary cap has increased yearly by 10+mil since 2013. When you figure Rodgers cap hit does it consider the 10+mil the cap will increase for 2021 and 2022, if not more than 10mil? (I did just project and it seems to do so if not a little higher.) The percentages on the site I'm looking at has Rodgers over your 12% argument for '21 and '22. but not '20 or '23. It's just nitpicking imo. QBs are being paid for their Super Bowl potential. The list that got there but didn't win is ignoring to your argument on pct paid. Or the fact on Rookie contracts. From the looks of this research 12-14% is the new norm on pay for elite level QBs. Occasionally it creeps above.

COVID-19 aftermath: What things will change forever?

I truly hope this is an outcome. The fact that anyone has to touch anything in a public bathroom is just plain gross to begin with. How many times do you see people come out from a stall, the kind with doors, where 99% of the time, that person just took a dump, and don't even bother to wash their hands, they just leave the restroom? I've seen it a lot, A LOT! Stadiums, box stores, restaurants, you name it. From what I hear from others, this is not just a male thing, females are guilty too. When I see it at the high school I teach at, I have no issues telling the kid to get back here and wash up. Kids will do it, but these are just the ones I see/catch. I'm sure it happens frequently. I see it after urinal use as well. Again, I just flat out tell the kid to get over to the sink and wash their hands. So basically so long as you wash your hands via the faucet that the person who dumped didn't use, you should be fine. Just use that foot when you open the door
