  1. Yeah, cuz why enjoy the win. Why don't we throw in an Arcia rant as well. Start a thread on it if you have to. I'm glad you enjoy Braun swinging at pitches that bounce before the plate. If we didn't experience the agony of Braun swinging at bouncing pitches, we wouldn't be able to experience the ecstasy of an 8-2 6th inning lead over the Cardinals. Hakuna Frittata.
  2. Probably not ... but neither do HR numbers either Yeah, it's all pretty meaningless at this point. we are nihilists, Lebowski, we care about nothing.
  3. When Stearns was in the booth said they were going to ease him back in with low leverage appearances, so if this lead holds he may well pitch tonight.
  4. They are 4th in all of MLB in Win Probability Added, so yes. Look around the rest if the league....there are bullpen dumpster fires everywhere early. And the pen hasn't been the problem blowing leads late - it's the starters getting shelled too often early in games. Bullpen depth is a concern until proven otherwise, but to date the pen hasn't killed them. Right. Results through 17 games are not guaranteed to manifest for the next 145. But, to this point, they have fared well.
  5. First Arcia (.192 avg) gets a hit, then Woodruff (1.000 avg) doesn't. Have a feeling this might be a wild one.
  6. I noted this in the SA thread, but it looks like he is another Driveline guy... Lucas Erceg makes an appearance in FanGraphs Daily Prospect Notes for 04/10. Excerpt... Erceg is one of the more prominent early-adopters of some of Driveline Baseball’s hitting philosophies, which has made him a bit of a visual focal point for reasons other than just talent evaluation. He’s a pretty extreme fly ball hitter who will show power to all fields, but he hasn’t performed on paper. In my opinion, it’s a selectivity issue more than a mechanical one. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/daily-prospect-notes-4-10-19/
  7. Prince is still getting 24 million this year & next year. He'd still be playing if his body allowed him to.
  8. One big difference between Khris & Orlando is age. Davis was dealt after his age 27 season. Arcia is currently playing in his age 24 season. Another is that we had a surplus of OFers when we dealt Davis & our only other Orlando option is maybe Maurico? or possibly Perez?
  9. That can't continue.....can it? I'd love it if it did, but I would still take the under on a 202 wRC+ for Yelich this year. If that somehow makes me a pessimist, I guess a pessimist I am. After 17 games pretty much every hitter is an easy call on whether they will finish over or under their current wRC+... Cain (105, over) Moose (142, under) Shaw (48, over) Aguilar (33, over) Arcia (58, over but very possibly push, probably the hardest call sadly) Braun (56, over) Grandal (201, under) Gamel (101, push) Thames (84, over) Hernan (116, under) Manny (42, over)
  10. Barnes pitched the 8th, but we were up by 4 so it wasn't really a super high leverage situation. (edit: actually up only 3, thought the 3rd Yelich bomb was bottom 7th. Still only a 0.87 LI when Barnes entered the game) gmLI measures the leverage index each time a pitcher enters a game, 1.00 is average, above means a pitcher is typically pitching high leverage spots, below means they are typically pitching low leverage. Of course 17 games & 65 IP is a miniscule sample, but the bullpen pecking order as measured by gmLI so far this season is... Hader (2.21) Guerra (1.58) Albers (1.43) Wilson (1.25) Claudio (1.25) Williams (0.62) Barnes (0.47) Chase (0.36) Petricka (0.25)
  11. We have played less than 11% of our season games to this point. Peralta/Woodruff/Burnes have pitched 47 innings combined. It's not quite an apples to apples comparison with starting pitchers vs. a position player, but last year Domingo Santana started 42 of the first 54 games (33% of the season) batting 258/331/371 over 181 PAs before he saw his playing time cut & was eventually demoted. We are currently in first place despite the predictable early struggles of three young pitchers attempting their first full seasons as MLB starters, I'll take it. If at some point the org thinks they have better starting options & want to move one or more of Peralta/Woodruff/Burnes to the pen or AAA, I'll trust their judgement since they're privy to way more information than I am.
  12. Brewers pitchers 2019 9.45 K9 3.66 BB9 1.86 HR9 5.27 ERA 5.07 FIP 4.28 xFIP Reds pitchers 2019 9.41 K9 4.09 BB9 0.80 HR9 3.21 ERA 3.70 FIP 4.21 xFIP Pretty much the only thing separating the Brewers pitchers from the Reds at this point is HR9, which is by far the flukiest & shows up in our near identical xFIPs. I'll go out on a limb & predict we won't allow 162 more HRs than CIN at season's end. The most important number at this early juncture is still IP though. The Brewers have 140, the Reds 123. Far too early to draw any meaningful conclusions about pitching coaches & the effectiveness (or lack) thereof.
