  1. Fielder for Hudson straight up? Maybe Tim but not Daniel. If Daniel Hudson is really the best you can get for a year and two months of Fielder, I'll gladly take the elite offensive production in 2011 and two picks in 2012.
  2. I can understand speeding to get home but speeding to get to WORK?
  3. Ok, so here's the rules. 25 man roster. No repeats. Player had to play listed position in chosen year. (wOBA & FIP) I'll go like this... 87 Molitor 3B (.443) 80 Cooper 1B (.404) 82 Yount SS (.418) 09 Fielder DH (.420) 09 Braun LF (.405) 99 Nilsson C (.406) 79 Lezcano RF (.428) 91 Randolph 2B (.369) 79 Thomas CF (.384) Molly and Willie were kinda short on games played in 87 & 91 so I'll go with 08 Branyan (.383) and 09 Weeks (.365) once a week. I'll take 87 Schroeder (.401) backing up the Aussie behind the dish and 92 Hamilton (.350) as a LH 4th OF for my all RH OF. SP1 04 Sheets (2.65) SP2 88 Higuera (2.80) SP3 89 Bosio (2.86) SP4 78 Caldwell (2.94) SP5 08 CC (2.44)/92 Eldred (2.81) RP 10 Axford (2.37) RP 07 Cordero (2.24) RP 97 Jones (2.16) RP 93 Orosco (2.14) RP 88 Plesac (1.97) CL 81 Fingers (2.07)
  4. I'd like to see the team get kind of creative and piggyback Rogers/Jeffress in the 5 spot next year. The rotation would then be YO, Wolf, Hypothetical Fielder Trade Return, Narveson, Rogers/Jeffress Piggyback. In 2012 you could then have YO, HFTR, Rogers, Jeffress, Odorizzi. Daydreaming aside, they should both be starting in AAA next year. They, along with Odorizzi, are the only top of the rotation caliber starters in the system currently. I like the others you mentioned above but to me they all profile in that 3-5 range. Certainly some of these guys will fall to attrition, get hurt, or end up in the pen longterm but there is much more cause for optimism on the pitching front moving forward now than there was at the beginning of the year for sure.
  5. Whether it's BABIP, ERA, W/L record, injuries, or any other litany of things it is becoming increasingly obvious to most forward thinking baseball fans that LUCK is a tremendous factor in determining the outcome of any player and/or team's season. That said, how does this knowledge effect your enjoyment of baseball in general?
  6. The Rays are the perfect fit (they need LH power & have pitching prospects galore) and if we ate Fielder's salary (which we can absolutely afford to do) you'd have to think we could get a crazy haul, though I don't see them trading Hellickson in any circumstance. Prince, 15 million (&2 high draft picks in 2012) for Davis, Moore, Mcgee & Beckham
  7. Exactly. You think this year has been a bummer? Imagine if we still had to pay Soriano over 70 million for the next 4 years. Losing at 90 Million >>> Losing at 145 Million
  8. Anyone maybe happen to know how many times in MLB history the pitcher has more hits (ZAMBRANO 3) than allowed (BREWERS 2)? edit-Guess I should have waited until the game was over to post that, but in that case let's score 5 here and get Rogers the win.
  9. How about the A's as a potential trading partner? They have plenty of young pitching, no power whatsoever to speak of and Beane has rolled the dice in similar situations with Holliday/Sheets in recent sesaons.
  10. I don't think many people who throw around UZR numbers think it is the be all end all of defensive evaluation or anywhere near perfect for that matter, but it is the best publicly available defensive metric that I am aware of. Obviously there is some noise in there, there's noise in every stat. For years and years all people talked about were Batting Average and ERA, they seemed so perfect so simple. I mean how could dividing the number of hits by the number of at bats not tell you who the best hitter was? Or dividing the number of Earned Runs allowed by Innings Pitched and multiplying by 9 not tell you who the best pitcher was? Noise, Noise, Noise.
  11. If Gomez can fix his approach and live up to the offensive potential he showed in AA, that would be wonderful. I still have faith it can happen, but not nearly as much as I did when we first acquired him. The kid is still young, and the tools are definitely there. People often say power is the last tool to develop but for lots of these youngsters it's the Sixth tool that often develops last, make up. I guess I just like to dream of an outfield with him and Cain. Braun could just stay in the dugout between innings.
  12. Given Melvin's track record on trades, our numerous rotation holes and the large amount of payroll coming off the books I definitely think the Fielder return will center around a pitcher who has 2 or 3 years of team control at a fairly value neutral salary along with a pitching prospect who is still a year or two away from MLB.
  13. "He's also one of the three players the Brewers have under long-term control. But as we've seen, there is no guarantee that Hart, Yovani Gallardo or even Ryan Braun will come to represent value." This quote really jumped out at me in that Hunt article. Really, Mike? I guess I missed where LuCroy, Escobar, McGehee, Cain, Gamel, Axford, Braddock and Jeffress were all impending Free Agents.
  14. So here we are, 2010. Neither Inman nor Garrison has ever gotten a single day of major league per diem. Thatcher is a LOOGY. Fire Melvin?
  15. You're not going to get nearly the return on either of Lawrie or Gamel as you will with Fielder for the sheer fact that neither one has proven a thing at the major league level. Fielder is still 4th in the NL in wOBA despite his "down year". The smart clubs out there don't put too much stock into his RBI numbers.
  16. The Brewers are currently 20th in team UZR at -13.4 and 28th in ERA/FIP differential at +.48 The main culprits (big surprise) are Fielder, McGehee, Braun and Hart who have combined for a -33.6 UZR in 4391 innings at the four corners thus far. It is somewhat encouraging that we have LuCroy, Escobar and Cain at the three toughest defensive positions for the forseeable future as all profile as plus defenders with the capability to put up around league average offense, and that = value.
  17. Right now Castro, as much as it pains me to say it. He is younger and has performed better this year. As for the future, all I know for certain is where we're going we don't need roads.
  18. Plus Braddock has been handled with kid gloves in the bullpen this year and has still had a couple sore/dead arm issues. Braddock in the rotation is just a pipe dream at this point it would seem. If they really wanted to think outside the box and go for a piggyback with Jeffress the ideal partner is Rogers. They could both go through the order a couple times, get 3-5 IP each and both be ready to go full time in 2012, hopefully along with Odorizzi. Now who's dreaming?
  19. What year was this? In 2007 Gamel was at Brevard while LaPorta split between Helena/West Virginia. And in 2008 they were both in Huntsville all year until the CC trade.
  20. Cap'n Lou really thrived at Helena with Gbenga pushing him for starts behind the dish in 2k3 and kind of fell off thereafter, complacent. Maybe if Gbenga would have been breathing down his neck all the way up the ladder he could have really been our catching WHOA SOLVDD.
  21. They're climbing in your windows and they're snatching your people up.
  22. I realize how poor Parra's FB has been, and I attribute it mostly to location/command. I'm just saying as a lefty with his stuff he'll naturally get more chances than guys like Obie/Franklin. Whether he actually deserves it or not is another argument but until they come up with a gun that you point at a pitcher and it says "this guy is a pitcher" or "this guy will never put it together" the scouts will keep seeing those 92, 93, 94 readings and go off of that.
  23. The difference between Parra & Obie/Franklin is pure stuff. Wayne Franklin's hardest avg fastball velocity in a season was 89 and that was a year he pitched 50 innings. Parra's career average is 92, 3 MPH is pretty significant.
  24. To build up his workload and to work on his control. All his other rates are great but those walks are gonna need to comedown if he wants to be a MLB starter.
