So at this still early juncture it’s just the Brewers and A’s that have lost to each of the two legitimately horrendous teams. It would be perfectly reasonable to find this kind of not so fun fact to be a harbinger of doom, but I don’t see it like that. Way I see things, Afterlife Ueck was never gonna pull those strings seven months straight for wire to wire dominance, that wouldn’t be exciting. I think Zombie Bob is a lil more mischievous than that. He’s gonna want to inject some drama (and levity) into the proceedings, some ups and downs along the way. Curious to see what heavenly delights he has in store for the first Cubs series.

Interesting that Carlos Rodriguez made the list over Chad Patrick when they are the same general kind of pitcher but one is taking care of business in MLB versus AAA. Also surprised Black came in higher ranked than EMJ considering Ernesto raked to end last year, and then again in spring training and continuing through to Nashville versus Black being underwhelming and now hurt for going on a year now Mildly shocked Wilken, Lara and Knoth all held onto spots between injury and spotty performance when so many other players of the same calibre are healthy and producing right now. Hard for me to include Mike Boeve too as a guy who is currently hurt and was trending towards being a contact only 1B prospect pre-injury, much less still in the Top Ten. Thought I'd be in the minority with Misio over Made, but looks like that wasn't the case either.

Looks like he's reigned in his command somewhat to start the year with "only" 8 BB in 15 IP versus 42 BB in 52 IP last year. Hopefully Carolina can show some patience and then pounce on any mistakes.

Looks like StatCast has Sal in the negative too, though not quite so severe at only -2. Would imagine that should stabilize some as the season goes on. On the team level the Brewers are a little below their usual rankings at +2 DRS (20th), +4 FRV (7th), and a .708 defensive efficiency (11th) which is just a simple measure of what percent of batted balls result in outs. Since that last one is a rate stat it does a decent job showing how volatile the early season numbers are. Last year the Brewers .709 DefEff tied for 3rd behind SEA in 1st at .724 and just behind LAD in 2nd at .710. So far this year there are six teams at .724 or higher (CIN tops at .754), and another three teams ahead of last year’s second best 162 game rate, so still lots of noise in there. Other bottom line thing to look at is good old fashioned ERA/FIP gap, currently at 4.08/4.47 for a -0.39 (7th). A little behind their recent pace of -0.51 the last two years, If we look at just April after the ugly 0 W - 4 L start though it comes out at 2.95/3.64 for a lot nicer -0.69 gap.

Easily another ten pitchers (Cornielle, Hardin, Rodriguez, Holobetz, Gillis, Bjorn, Travis Smith, Melvin Hernandez, Stiven Cruz) and five position players (Areinamo, Alastre, Di Turi, Burke, Wilken) that have made legit cases for those last few spots after Dinges at #17 in the early going. And that's not even mentioning the injury holding pattern guys like Coleman that just came back or Black/Boeve who are yet to play and have been Top 5 to 10 org guys in the past. Or Knoth who we won't be seeing again until next year. Then you've got the new crop of DSL guys (Antunez, Fenelon, Acosta) and ACL guys (Anderson, Corobo, Ortuno) that we have to look forward to later in the summer. Fun stuff.

After losing the Finals at age 27 in 2006, Dirk’s Mavs went out in R1, R1, R2, and R1 before finally winning it all at age 32 in 2011. Next couple seasons look pretty bleak with Dame out, then coming back off major injury at age 36, but who knows how everything else will look two years from now. The “smart” move might be to trade Giannis for the best possible return of young players and picks to get a head start on the next 50 year rebuild, but sounds like Giannis doesn’t want to go anywhere and I’d guess Horst doesn’t want to be known as the guy who traded him away (& the Bucks certainly aren’t smart). No matter what, we’re hoping for a miracle either way, so which one would you rather dream on? A legit contender somehow coalesces around Giannis over the next two to four years to make one more magical run? Or we somehow land another superstar with loyalty to Milwaukee beyond his first extension & assemble a legit contender around them? The Bucks FO has a way better track record acquiring veterans than they do drafting, so I’m cool riding with Giannis until the wheels fall off.
