This is his last chance this season to prove worth for Brewers. Really he has until June/July to prove his worth. By proving worth we can either slide him over to 2nd base or trade him while is value is high. 2014 he started out bad then he lost a child. That's tough so I didn't that season against him at all. 2015 though....no real excuses, he has a horrible approach, refuses to walk or work counts, he isn't driving the ball at all, and hasn't looked remotely good overall as a hitter. Hard to believe his sample size after coming up & his first full season was a complete fluke. It is sink or swim.

I think if that was true the brewers would have not DFA'd Pinto. I understand that most of us on this board believe this trade would be best for the future of the team, but I don't want Sterns to trade our most valuable asset for less than what they got for Gomez. I would rather wait and see what happens rather than trade below fair value. Gomez trade had Fiers so that factors in a lot to that outcome. If you want that type of package you will need to add a Peralta/Smith or someone else with value Gomez for Santana Hader & Houser was more of the deal which still is pretty good as of right now. I don't think Pinto being DFA'd has anything to do with Lucroy. We are loaded with similar catchers all competing this season. I'm happy they are holding out for best deal. With the NL so down this season it'd be great if one of those competitive teams needed a catcher (most don't). I want to trade him but for a good return. My guess is we waste a season by keeping him & hope he regains his old value. At same time Gomez was not good last season and still helped bring back a good haul.

I think it all depends on development. How good is Santana over the next two seasons mixed with how promising Coulter (who if it wasn't for his golden top of the line arm would give us a true 1B prospect) Harrison, Clark, Demi, Taylor and others are. I think a 2020 as of today with what we have LF Trent Clark CF Brett Phillips RF Monte Harrison 1B Clint Coulter 2B Bethencourt/McFarland/ Mallen/ Lara (Weeks type of bat if Gatewood and him both become studs)/ Diaz or Collymore (both can play 2B) or anyone else you can fill in SS Orlando Arcia 3B Lara/Gatewood C Dustin Houle/ Carlos Leal/ Johel Atencio/ Jose Sibrian Now a million things can change by 2019-2020 but as of now this is what we kind of have. I love the thought of having 3 CFers in the outfield. All very athletic with 2 having plus arms, Clark has enough arm but it is average

Should be a no brainer to move if possible. Only worth of Colorado Springs is for the Rockies to prepare prospects for what Coors will be like. That's the only time fans went to games as well. No matter what, Brewers are gone after this year. Either find new club or move down to San Antonio..... Bad news is move is 1 year to late. Lopez, Hader, Houser, Wagner are going to face uphill battle this year

I'd take a chance on him in a heart beat. The hand eye coordination you need in cricket is unreal & he is considered the best batsman in the world. I'm sure he can adjust to a baseball & bat with his natural gifts.

Agreed, he's more of a writer than a scout. Doubt he knows anything at all about the 3 guys. We got one Small crafty Davies type in Missaki Another undersized guy in Peralta but never heard a guy who works 92-95 as a soft tosser..... Then a pretty projectable sized pitcher in Herrera who is 17 sitting 88-90.....could be 95+ in 3 years. To label a projectable 17 year old as a soft tosser is pretty uneducated fan banter .....kid is old enough to be a senior in high school.

I don't see Arizona as a match. I would take Garza for Hill & a prospect though. Kind of like the Braves trade last year. I guess Rays depends on how competitive they feel they will be this season. His price tag, work ethic, attitude, ability to work with young pitchers all match very well for them.

I think we are in pretty good shape for CF as of now. I am much higher on Niewenhuis than most people but I think he fits the mold of a 27/28 year old guy who given the chance can be a very productive player. Like many guys throughout baseball history have struggled or never really got many opportunities to play regularly until 27-28 (which is when a player begins to enter their prime as well) then they take off. We hit on 2 29/30 year olds in Scott Po & Brady Clark who were nobodies before they got their chance. Your Jay Bruhner and Burntiz's are all over baseball. Now if the Brewers are planning to compete for division against Cubs, Cards, Pirates...then I wouldn't be so willing to hope one of these guys produce but with where we are as a franchise, one of those 4 guys you would think could at least be productive. Niewenhuis is a 6'3 225 guy who can move an play excellent defense in all three spots. His bat I think will be a .250 ave with .330 OBP .720 OPS. I will gladly take that. Broxton is your typical uber athletic, late bloomer with tools for days. Maybe he is ready, maybe he is not, but definitely a guy I'd take a good look at. Pressley is 30 and he is serviceable. He will give you a higher .600 OPS. Not much for getting on base though. Okay bench option EY Jr. is a good bench guy to have around. Good fielder who can fly. His bat has never really came along enough for him to stick but he has value to the team. He isn't much of a starter I don't think unless something finally clicks for him with the bat. Overall Niewenhius & Broxton are the two guys I am looking at to possibly take the reins until Maverick Phillips is ready to go.

I feel Tampa is a perfect match for us as well. Really Rangers and Rays I feel have the best pieces to aquire. 1) They can offer up a catching prospect in return. Justin O'Conner (#8) who appears to be a pretty solid catching prospect. Chris Betts (#11) is intriguing but reminds me too much of Clint Coulter and may have to move off in future. Nick Ciuffo (#19) is 19 or 20 and has some promise as a catching prospect. Was a former 1st round pick 2) They have some really nice arms to consider. Snell (#2) is a lefty who may have been the best pitcher in all of the minors last season. I wanted Taylor Guierreri (6) really bad coming out of the draft and was very upset we passed on him twice for Jungmann and Bradley. Hasn't been great but still younger and talented. Brent Honeycutt (#3) is young and looks like he could be a very good MLB arm. 3) Exciting young bats who are in advance levels for age. Tampa is very aggressive with young prospects. Willy Adames (#1) 20 in A+, Daniel Robertson 21 in AA, Jake Bauer 20 in AA and is a very underrated, Justin Williams 20 in A+, Kean Wong 20 in A+ and many more....Rodon, Velazquez, Whitley are all really ice looking prospects as well. 4) Arnold knows these players better than anyone so regardless to rank, I should have to deal with people complaining that players national ranks arent better.....Arnold knows exactly were these prospects are with development and potential. 5) 1-30 they are deep! Bauer, Williams, Wong in most systems are top 10-15 prospects they hang out at the bottom in Tampa. 6) Shaffer, Gillespie, and Brett are all decent guys to consider as well Give me Honeycutt (#3), O'Conner (#8), Jacob Faria (#20), & Jake Bauer (#24) for Lucroy and I'd die of happiness Don't think Lucroy alone is enough though

The next collective bargaining needs to address all these international signing issues. If you are going to have bonus pools that teams are just blowing past without any thoughts what so ever, you need to ramp up the punishment. Strip draft picks or something. Dodgers can pay 50 million in just taxes on 16 year olds and not flinch. Brewers can't afford to go over limit at all...not equal playing field still

This is the Cardinals we are talking about....there will be nothing big that will happen to them. At this point if they at least were stripped of a 1st round pick and some bonus pool money I'd be happy. In all honesty though, I don't foresee MLB doing anything.

People keep saying that but for a catcher of Lucroy's caliber I doubt any team hesitates to make that move. Is his performance going to out weigh the drop in performance for the pitching staff? It's going to be an adjustment period to learn all the new starters & RPs, how to best call a game for them, how pitches break, and etc. It is not an easy transition as you need to learn a whole new staff.

Really we have until March to trade him otherwise, he is here until next off-season. Changing catcher at mid season will cause more issue than benefits for a contender. Very few teams make that move.

Lind's option was solely picked up to trade him this off-season.... DS never once even spoke to him. I say there was 1 or less percent DS was going to not move him before ST. Regardless of who we got in trade, it is not overally important to our success in future. We got him for Estrada & it is not like he is an elite bat. Brewers were looking for 1B prior to trade of Rogers. I'm sure they would have kept him if not blown away by Pirates. Not sure anyone would have thought we get a return like that for him. Rogers has looked like a platoon bat Sneed.... Is this really an issue? We got a possible stud/ Bill Hall types who can play all over the field, has a good bat, can get on base, was a top prospect, and has great speed. Once again.... Is trading Sneed who was burried on our depth chart really an issue? Also have no clue how th Sardinas for Flores has no real impact on our prospects of winning or being competitive. Signing Carter who is going to hit 25+ HRs and give 75+ RBIs isn't going to hurt our cause for winning over next three years as compared to having Rogers. If he hits .220 with .320 OBP .775 OPS. I feel that is absolutely fine with the run production you still get out of him. Cecchini, Middlebrook, Nieuwenhuis are three guys that are still younger & entering primes who were top 10 prospects that never really got shots or fall off during the opportunities they were given. All 3 of the these guys could produce and help win games. I went through baseball almanac looking at the mid 90s Mariner teams and old Brewer lineups and many of the guys who were big producers didn't start producing until 27+ or new got real opportunity to show what they offer. Blecher Report gave Middlebrook the best off-season move by Brewers & said he may be one of the steals of the off-season. If any of these guys play at the level people thought they would when coming up as prospects, they could really help us win & compete. Middlebrook could easily be a 30+ HR near .900 OPS guy if he gets back to where he was his 1st season. None of these moves either really help nor hurt our chances. Braun, Lucroy, Nelson, Smith Davis Peralta Jeffress are the big ones really change our team and where he stand Segura has been extremely replaceable for awhile so I left him off. Overall our winning for the future is based on how deep our system is. We need to have an elite system loaded with depth. We fill our roster with homegrown talent and trade off other pieces who are blocked for impact players. If you have enough depth, big trades won't cripple you the way our other past trades had. I see no point talking about our lack of depth at certain positions right now.... DS is 3 months on the job, still has 6-8 weeks until spring with many pieces to still possibly trade, & his staff has yet to draft yet.... Did you expect Lind, KRod, Sardines, Sneed & Rogers to rebuild all our depth in minor leagues with impact prospects? You don't take a less talented player in a trade because he plays a position you need more depth at another position. You always take BPA. If Brewers front office who knows far more about the prospects they trade for than any of us, feel those are the best value players (regardless to national sites ranking) you simply trust they know what they are doing. We will be fine & competitive again. Trust the process and our front office in knowing what they are doing

Only reason to trade Davis is to make room for Santana....why bring in Arcia then? Anyone else find it fascinating how much the league average OBP has dropped over the years in baseball?

I was going to say .300 Obp is just as good if not better than what we get out of Scooter, Segura, Perez, and etc. at least with Carter you also get 30 HRs and 80 RBI's. Carter is a scary guy in that at any moment he can go off and be one of the most dangerous bats as he did in September. You just have to hope he can swing and hit a little more

He keeps his OBP .100 points higher than his batting average. He hits .230-.250, then he is a .330-.350 OBP guy this season

Hard to believe Griffey Jr is only #1 pick to be elected to Hall of Fame. Obviously, Chipper will be a 1st ballot guy to join him. Of course ARod has an uphill climb now but he could join as well. ARod & Bonds are a shame. They never needed to take anything to be elite Hall of Fame players...they just got creedy. Didn't want to be one of the greatest but the greatest.... I don't like the current system. PEDs issue drives me nuts. Baseball created that issues & culture to begin with....not to mention that culture saved baseball. The writers loved the era & it's players. MLB & writers create the issue, turn back to the issue, and then when things went south, they left the players out dry, dragged there names though the mud, played innoscent, and turned back on them. Now they sit on there high horse & deny players who should be in. Piazza....not bad for a guy only drafted in 62nd round of draft as family friend favor....

Which as of right now (waaaaaay to early to predict) means we are able to get a 2nd crack at drafting and signing JJ Schwartz or we could go with hometown Wisconsin kid in Jeron Kendell out of Vanderbilt who is rated 5 five in his class by many outlets

Will Smith should be a big/nice return. He has been one of the top lefty (non Loogy) back-end arms for two seasons, is only 1 million a year, and very controllable. With the RP market today, DS should hold out for a team who is going to bit hard on a dominant left with 3-4 years of control who only cost a million. I think if he pitches the way he does every 1st half until his arm is abused & beaten to near death (as it is by July/August every season) in the closer role for us. His best value will come at the deadline.
