  1. Because being eliminated by the Cubs or Cardinals in the playoffs, after running away with the division, would be absolutely horrible. Intolerable. Rather not risk it. Too emotionally fraught.
  2. I'm kind of in a weird spot with this team, feeling super impatient to just win the division already while also knowing we just have to be okay, while also feeling like slightly hopeful we can get the 2-seed, while also really, really wanting the other NL teams to stick ahead of the Cubs and Cards so that there's no shot we have to play one of them to open the playoffs. Then that Langeliers AB about broke my brain. It's hard to thread the needle between being realistic and greedy. I was really confident we'd be better than people thought this year, but the plus 100 run differential and 10-game division lead with 32 to go (assuming this result holds today) has exceeded my wildest expectations.
  3. 12-7 in August if this goes in the "L" column. You're not going to lose the division playing like that. I never really thought we had a shot at a bye, so that's why yesterday and today sting more than they should. Still. Keep playing good baseball, and we'll be able to say we own the Central. I love that.
  4. To be back to +6.5 feels good, given that it could easily be 4.5. It's two days, but that feels like a big difference.
  5. Just watching the Turang play again, and it's frustration. I think it was hit slow, he was deep in the hole, and when he took a second to look at Willy, he probably felt like he had to go to second. I'm more upset that he made a bad throw than that he went to 2nd. I took advantage of the ASB and tuned out from Brewers news for a while, but I was surprised to see Civale starting this game. Seems like Rea is clearly our best rotation option, so a little weird to see him held back for Monday, though I can see wanting him to pitch against the division. I mention that because I think we're going to need about 6 runs to win today.
  6. Agree. And, hey, I think Tampa (and everyone) should be nervous trading with us. In all seriousness, two teams in MLB consistently outperform market size, payroll, and projections, and it's us and them. Might as well swap with them. Adames trade worked out just fine.
  7. This team. Wow. Give Megill a day tomorrow, man. And maybe let's win comfortably?
  8. Past time to move on from Berhalter, I think. Turkey-Austria was an incredible game, though.
  9. Hoskins is essentially on this roster to hit the ball in the air, right?
  10. Can't throw strikes, and dude is up there hacking. We would be going nuts if the roles were reversed. And now tied. Coors is not fun.
  11. Peguero having no concept of the strike zone lately is not a good development. Need him good with Koenig down.
  12. Two double-plays have really hurt. Jackson smoked that, though.
  13. Yeah, I loved playing in Detroit because that's the perfect ballpark for a good defense and pitch-to-contact guys. Coors is more of a struggle. The team speed helps, but balls in play find holes in that place, and it's going to make for a difficult series. Good news is, our contact offense will benefit too.
  14. Following on Gameday. What happened? Something on the Ortiz bunt? Did they rule it fair when it should have been foul or something?
  15. Big CONCACAF energy in this US-Uruguay game. It's been weird, ugly, and the refereeing has been so comically bad it looks match-fixy (not saying it is, but I've seen some awful soccer halves, and this is one of the worst). The Euros have seen all the big boys through, which is fun. Spain-Germany is a glorious QF. Rooting for Austria, as they are very, very fun. Slovenia really should've put Portugal away at the end of extra time. Just couldn't find the finishing touch, and then were very tame in the shootout (some great goalkeeping from Portugal too.
  16. Yeah, not a well-payed game on either side today. We lost, and it happens. Giving the matchups, a split of these first 2 seems good. Freddy is always inconsistent, but the offense really hasn't shown up other than the Chuorio swing on Friday (which was also a wall-scraper). A 4-2 homestand is fine, but 5-1 would be awesome. I'm just gonna say it. The Cubs may beat us tomorrow (and may well win the season series), but without some reliable bullpen arms and probably another hitter, they do not seem built to contend.
  17. Was hoping to steal this one today, and we still could. But we definitely don't deserve it.
  18. Good to see the USMNT get off to a good start in the Copa. Missed some big chances, but that's the kind of easy, 2-0 won they should have gotten. Uruguay look great, so anything other than 3 pts against Panama will make things dicey.
  19. What are folks thinking on Myers? I like that he doesn't walk guys. He pitches to contact. Lately, he seems to have really good command within the zone as well. Yet, his FIP is above 5, and it doesn't really seem like guys struggle to square him up. Hard hit and line drive rates are right around league average. He's neither a ground ball nor fly ball nor strikeout pitcher. There's definitely been a lot of luck involved in getting his ERA under 4, but can he be a decent back-end starter? Like, I don't know, Chris Narveson (4.31 career FIP)? I can see a lot of possible variance for the guy, and that makes him kind of fun to watch.
  20. 156 career WAR for Mays. That's a big, big number. OPS+ of 158 in his age 40 season. Unquestionably, undoubtedly, an absolute all-time great player.
  21. Enjoyed watching that. Feel like I'm on sports overload these days, watching baseball, Stanley Cup playoffs, the Euros, and the Olympic swim trials. But it's also great. A Brewer win tonight would be even greater.
  22. No IL move yet either that I have seen, so let's hope it's just giving the guy (Contreras) a break.
  23. Agree that it would be Haase. Wait and see on the evaluation. They pretty much have to do, and I think it's encouraging he was out in the handshake line. Hopefully it's a minor thing no matter what. I'd give him tomorrow off anyway.
