  1. Yeah, I loved playing in Detroit because that's the perfect ballpark for a good defense and pitch-to-contact guys. Coors is more of a struggle. The team speed helps, but balls in play find holes in that place, and it's going to make for a difficult series. Good news is, our contact offense will benefit too.
  2. Following on Gameday. What happened? Something on the Ortiz bunt? Did they rule it fair when it should have been foul or something?
  3. Big CONCACAF energy in this US-Uruguay game. It's been weird, ugly, and the refereeing has been so comically bad it looks match-fixy (not saying it is, but I've seen some awful soccer halves, and this is one of the worst). The Euros have seen all the big boys through, which is fun. Spain-Germany is a glorious QF. Rooting for Austria, as they are very, very fun. Slovenia really should've put Portugal away at the end of extra time. Just couldn't find the finishing touch, and then were very tame in the shootout (some great goalkeeping from Portugal too.
  4. Yeah, not a well-payed game on either side today. We lost, and it happens. Giving the matchups, a split of these first 2 seems good. Freddy is always inconsistent, but the offense really hasn't shown up other than the Chuorio swing on Friday (which was also a wall-scraper). A 4-2 homestand is fine, but 5-1 would be awesome. I'm just gonna say it. The Cubs may beat us tomorrow (and may well win the season series), but without some reliable bullpen arms and probably another hitter, they do not seem built to contend.
  5. Was hoping to steal this one today, and we still could. But we definitely don't deserve it.
  6. Good to see the USMNT get off to a good start in the Copa. Missed some big chances, but that's the kind of easy, 2-0 won they should have gotten. Uruguay look great, so anything other than 3 pts against Panama will make things dicey.
  7. What are folks thinking on Myers? I like that he doesn't walk guys. He pitches to contact. Lately, he seems to have really good command within the zone as well. Yet, his FIP is above 5, and it doesn't really seem like guys struggle to square him up. Hard hit and line drive rates are right around league average. He's neither a ground ball nor fly ball nor strikeout pitcher. There's definitely been a lot of luck involved in getting his ERA under 4, but can he be a decent back-end starter? Like, I don't know, Chris Narveson (4.31 career FIP)? I can see a lot of possible variance for the guy, and that makes him kind of fun to watch.
  8. 156 career WAR for Mays. That's a big, big number. OPS+ of 158 in his age 40 season. Unquestionably, undoubtedly, an absolute all-time great player.
  9. Enjoyed watching that. Feel like I'm on sports overload these days, watching baseball, Stanley Cup playoffs, the Euros, and the Olympic swim trials. But it's also great. A Brewer win tonight would be even greater.
  10. No IL move yet either that I have seen, so let's hope it's just giving the guy (Contreras) a break.
  11. Agree that it would be Haase. Wait and see on the evaluation. They pretty much have to do, and I think it's encouraging he was out in the handshake line. Hopefully it's a minor thing no matter what. I'd give him tomorrow off anyway.
  12. Great day at the Euros today. I especially enjoyed watching Slovenia equalize late. I like Denmark a lot, but Slovenia probably deserved to go through to the second round of the 2010 World Cup. Landon Donovan broke their hearts, as Ian Darke put it. I'm incredibly happy he did so, but I don't believe they've qualified for a major international tournament since. Or, if they have, I don't think they made any noise. So...they're owed a run, is what I'm saying. Their matches against Serbia and England (the team that beat them on the final group day in that 2010 World Cup) will be a lot of fun.
  13. I heard that Rock said something about the move to PR for Candelario. I was following on the radio and thought that was a mistake. You'd much rather face Espinal in that situation, and it made the decision to walk Elly a lot easier. Of course, Espinal got the hit, but it was for sure a soft-contact special. I thought Murphy managed this game quite well. He's been improving as an in-game manager, I think, and I appreciate his candor after Friday's loss. As others have mentioned, that just felt like about as big of a series win as June could give you. Reds come in smoking hot, Brewers blow a big opportunity in game one (though, really, it was more an opportunity to STEAL a win than a game they should have won), and then they come back and take the next two to go up 4-2 on the Reds in the season series. Love, love, love that we have a winning record against everyone in division about halfway through our divisional slate. Believe we are 18-9 against the NL Central. Let's rock the left coast just like we rocked the Mets on opening weekend.
  14. Good move to walk him. Should be over. Let's get it done anyway.
  15. It would be really nice to not have to face Elly in the ninth.
  16. I'd take Elly just so he doesn't annoy the Brewers as much for the next half decade.
  17. Man, Christian Yelich is a baseball player. So much fun.
  18. Man, some insurance would be great, especially with Megill looking a little hittable lately.
  19. I get trying to sneak Paredes through that inning, but he did not reward the show of faith.
  20. Great play from Sal. I'd guess that long Fraley AB ends Rea's day. Dude pitched really well again. It's the quality start almost no one likes (6 innings, 3 runs), but other than the mistake to Steer, he really controlled the game. Would love to a see a 3-spot to put him in line for the win.
  21. If the Reds have anyone in the two spot other than Elly, this is a 1-1 game. Still feel like it's going to take 5 or 6 to win this one somehow. Hope we can put together a big inning.
  22. Good picks. I love watching Austria. That high-press is fun. And Portugal is supremely talented.
  23. Lots of scoring at Euro 2024, which is nice to see. Teams so far seem healthy and aggressive. Not really any supercompetitive games so far, but I am guessing that changes with Group C getting underway tomorrow. It looks to me like a favorites kind of year, but I would fade England if I had the chance, mainly because I really, really don't trust their back line.
  24. Don't mind turning Gary loose 3-0, but that elevated fastball probably wasn't the pitch to do it.
