  1. Well, Rea will have to settle down if we're going to have a shot today. Be nice to win the series, but heading to Miami a little bit fresh is important.
  2. Seems weird that the Astros played the infield in in the first? That offense doesn't seem built to worry about giving up a run in inning number one.
  3. Yup. I'm in western Illinois, and for a while we were on Brewers, Cubs, Sox, Cards, Royals, Twins blackout. Six teams. I believe it's down to four now, but it's really messed up.
  4. Ha! No joke, I was thinking this after your two on with no outs disappointment post.
  5. Sal needed that. And great to see Chourio really hit that one hard.
  6. Miller's versatility does bring some value in this situation, especially with a lot of struggling outfielders. Hopefully it's a short stay for Rhys.
  7. That turned quickly. Hopefully it's not one of those things where Priester now goes out an retires 12 in a row.
  8. I'm in the "let Chourio play and live with the struggles" camp. Obviously, you don't want to destroy his confidence, but I feel like it would be a little hard to do that given that the contract we gave him basically says, "you were worth $80 mil before you even had an MLB AB." There's pressure that comes with that, but the dude just needs to be a regular, everyday major-leaguer for a while. IMO, anyway. He deserves to be here. There's nothing mystical about the MLB compared to Triple A. It's a higher level, but the kid doesn't need magic powers to succeed. Plus, not like there's many better options for that spot in the lineup. I'd go: Turang 2B Contreras DH Yelich LF Adames SS Bauers 1B Ortiz 3B Sanchez C Perkins CF Chourio RF
  9. Pirates tend to play the Brewers tough. I think the Central is going to be like this all year. Lot of 3-4 game win streaks, but no team really clearing daylight. Hoping we can win these next two and take the series. Big difference between a 4-3 and 5-2 homestand.
  10. Good to see Joel limit the damage there. Bednar pitched yesterday and has struggled quite a bit this year, so hopefully there's a big hit left in this lineup tonight.
  11. Super inconsistent. Very bad umpiring tonight. No idea what is and isn't.
  12. Payamps has looked very worrying these last two outings.
  13. Yeah. The second one especially was right there to be driven.
  14. He's fine as a back-of-the-bullpen guy, but Murphy uses him all the time. He's his "down multiple runs in the seventh or later guy," whether "multiple runs" means 2 or 6. I do not understand how Murphy uses the bullpen. It's not even that I disagree, just that I see no overriding philosophy at all, really, and that troubles me. I actually question the guy's understanding of leverage.
  15. Can't ask for more from Bauers. Great AB.
  16. Rea settled down reasonably well. Pirates good bullpen guys all had to pitch yesterday, so there's a chance to steal this one if we can keep in contact.
  17. Well, the Braves have started to knock around the Cubs pen. So, that's something, I guess.
  18. At this point, I think Jackson needs to play every day. Who's a better option there?
  19. As someone said, OF production has been very, very bad. Can't have three guys OPSing around .600. Some of it is just the young guys and a small sample still, but that is a lot of near auto-outs right now. Perkins really carried this team for a while, but he's really scuffling.
  20. Yeah, Bauers and Dunn seem like pretty clear replacement level guys. Ortiz needs way more playing time. I just want to throw out the youthquake and let's roll.
  21. This is definitely the first extended struggle of the year. Still, a 2-4 road trip could have easily been 1-5 or 0-6. Really would have liked game one in Kansas City and/or game two in Chicago, but that's baseball. Really hoping we can rip off a 5-2 homestand. Get things rolling at home. We're nearing the quarter pole here, and have created a 4-game separation on the rest of the division, which is good. I think the Cubs look like the favorites, but the Reds will win some games too. This division is going to come down to the last week in all likelihood, so going 2-4 instead of 1-5 in some 6-game stretches matters.
  22. Brewers were slated to miss Sonny Gray, but with the Mets-Cards game now postponed, they'll likely face him on tomorrow. Been seeing a lot of good pitchers lately. Gotta hit them in October, so might as well do it in May, I guess. If they can pull out this one today, a 3-3 road trip with these matchups is going to feel really good.
  23. Yeah, I don't see it with him. Of course, not sure there are a lot of other options either, and he's probably the last guy out of the bullpen. But no excuse for him seeing an inning in a 1- or 2-run game in the 7th.
  24. I do have to say that I disagree with the minor league system being underwhelming. Chuorio has been fine. Perkins good. Turang has been excellent. All-Star level. Frelick, okay, maybe you want him to be better, but he's not been terrible. Black has really struggled in a very small sample. Yelich's injury, combined with Hoskins and Adames not being monster run producers, has been the culprit on the offensive side. I'm most frustrated because we probably should have had at least one of these last four losses (assuming we continue to be unable to flip the script in the 8th and 9th innings). That said, I still think we're in a better spot than I'd imagined we'd be. This division still isn't very good. We're still not full strength. I mean, if we're 8 games over at Memorial Day, that's right where you want to be.
