  1. I would assume all(or at least some of) those big WR should make for physical run blockers as well. A small part of what made the Bears run game so effective a few years back was Marshall and Jeffrey dominating cb's on the outside and taking them out of the play consistently.
  2. On a side note, I think the Brewers are setting up well to have a lot of multi-inning relievers available in September. Suter and Nelson have looked good lately, especially Suter. When Chacin and Woodruff come back, we can shift 2 current starters to relief. We should be able to have quick hooks on starters when needed and quite the shuttle service of arms that can shift between AAA and MLB. The goal really needs to be to get through a really tough August within a few games of playoffs and hope to get hot in September.
  3. Who do you propose to start in his stead? How many teams have 4 starting pitcher injuries at a time, along with multiple top prospects inexplicably flailing at SP at the mlb level? It's really easy to sit on a forum and whine about which of the bad options they picked without offering a better alternative. I spent 10 minutes looking through AAA and AA to come up with a better option and I can't find one. Wilkerson is unavailable. Burch Smith is probably the best option but would be available on short rest. Supak is available but has gotten destroyed in AAA his last 2 starts. Brent Suter I guess is an option, but he should be pitching in a more controlled environment at this point. Bottom line, if Davies is healthy...he's by far the best option, despite not being a very good option at all.
  4. I can completely agree with this. Those DUI's are certainly enough to justify him never being your favorite player if you choose, but if he's a Brewer...i want him to do well in our uniform. For me it ends there, I prefer to stick with the baseball side and not be overly judgemental of players character. Again, that's to a point. I don't want Ray Rice or Adrian Peterson or Ray Lewis on my team to name a few examples.
  5. You don't seem to have a lot of exposure to alcoholism in your life if you don't think that 3 DUIs isn't at least a sign of a pretty serious problem. I've known numerous people with multiple DUIs and each one had a chronic problem with alcohol. Each one required pretty intense rehab, two are fortunately recovering and the other is now dead . I could understand one isolated incident for an individual, people in control of their drinking don't end up with 3 DUIs, that simply does not happen. #2, no one said I was "too good" to cheer for a guy with 3 DUI's, that was your words. #3, if allegations are irrelevant, Addison Russell should never have been suspended, yes? Allegations certainly come into play when considering signings. Standing by your own existing players is different than bringing new ones in. I know a guy with 3 DUI's who decided after the last one to simply stop drinking entirely. He hasn't had a drink in years. He never had a drinking problem, he just made stupid decisions when he drank...had a kid on the way...decided it just wasn't for him anymore. I know plenty of people who have had 1 and are now simply far more responsible about it. Never ever drive and rarely get that drunk. Most of these instances were early-mid 20s. People grow up and get smarter, Kang's last incident was 2016 and it was a pretty significant one...he's been notably a model citizen since then, so may be he truly learned from it.
  6. Seriously? If you get busted 3 times for drunk driving, how many times do you think he did it without getting busted? 10, 20, 100 times? More? 3 DUIs is for 100% certainty, a drinking problem. So maybe he made the bad decision to drive after drinking a lot of times and only got caught 3. But it's a decision thing, it's not a drinking problem thing. I'd bet pro athletes are out getting hammered often on non-gamedays, I'd bet a lot drink a heck of a lot more than Jung Ho Kang...they just don't drive and nobody knows.
  7. I agree with this alot. It's one thing if Rodgers blows out a knee in week 2 and is done for the year(yeah, that's the season). But if he misses a game or two, or even a half of football with a concussion...that backup QB matters a lot. Plus, if you can develop a guy well...you can follow Belicheck's lead and try to trade him for value.
  8. When you're talking about a difference making talent this is, for better or worse, entirely true. When you're wading through the waters of marginal 32 year olds who haven't been good in several years, things like a clear drinking problem and allegations of date rape tend to usually be disqualifying factors. DUI's don't necessarily mean he has a drinking problem, moreso poor decision making while drinking. It was one thing when fans didn't want the Ray Rice's of the world playing for their team, but this level of self-righteousness is pretty bad when you're too good to cheer for a guy with 3 DUI's. I made sure to bold out the fact that the date rape thing was allegations only. I don't think he was even charged. Sooooooo, that's completely irrelevant.
  9. It's one guy on a minor league contract. If given the choice, I'd take the model citizen all else being equal. But I assume they picked this guy for a reason. All the self-righteous comments about not wanting a guy because he has a DUI or this or that is just boring and wildly overplayed. Next up will be not wanting a guy because he got too many parking tickets.
  10. It’s baseball, so ya never know, but not confident of a win here. Irritated that our GM has mailed it in vs LHP. Well, that isn’t remotely close to an accurate statement. But you do you. I’m excited for this series 2 off days in 4 days has thrown me off a bit. Let’s take the division boys! Yikes, is this negativity trash already starting? We've won 6 of our last 8...yet we start with whining. Awesome. There are 6 Brewer players that have good numbers career against Corbin. Hiura obvoiusly has no history and is our best bet to crush LHP, so I tend to like our odds of getting to Corbin today. They also are having bullpen issues similar to the Brewers, no truly reliable arms in there. If Scherzer does pitch, he'll likely be on an abbreviated pitch count and probably only be pitching 4-6 innings max. The Brewers have a solid chance at each game this weekend.
  11. Ay ay ay, why is it the first thing people seem to care about is the non-baseball related stuff when deciding whether they like a baseball move? Minor league contract, he certainly has some talent. I like the idea of him getting some AAA action and see if his bat can heat up.
  12. Every team has injuries, the Cubs have actually had some rotational injuries for a change. And right now 4 or 5 of their best bullpen options are on the DL. It's not like their bullpen will all of a sudden be good when those guys get healthy(they'll get 3 back in the next week), but it certainly is a factor. Imagine if they had Kimbrel in there instead of Strop, then Wick, then Holland? Hard to imagine him allowing 4 runs often. That said, I tend to agree with Tplush. It's very likely going to come down to the final games. One team could fade a little with all the head to head, but it might be more likely that with 7 games left...those 3 teams will be within 2 games of each other. The biggest thing all the head to head does...is likely takes us out of the wildcard picture.
  13. I don't think Ray or Small make sense. Generally we send top hitting prospects, and pitchers that need work. Lutz, Stokes, and Segovia make sense for hitters. Someone like Bickford makes sense for a pitcher. The pitchers the Brewers send are generally somewhat under the radar guys...usually not on the top 30. I also believe we usually send mostly AA-AAA guys with only 1 or 2 lower minors guys.
  14. Interesting read, but I was able to easily poke holes in most of it. A lot of it seemed like "Rodgers is struggling on 3 pm games in October on odd numbered days"...type stuff. Like they are sifting through data and highlighting a lot of coincidences. You can explain so many of his struggles as having old/slow receivers and a terrible scheme/coach...along with being hurt. It's fair to ask "are we sure he's elite?", but I don't think it's fair to define him as a mediocre-above average qb at this point based on anything in this article. They can title it whatever they want...clearly they are trying to label him as not good anymore.
  15. This could be a game changer. And if he misses a couple weeks, it will be good for someone else to get a bunch of experience before moving to a backup role. This could be, but I think it could be almost as important to get Summers and Bolton on the field earlier. I'm guessing we won't see Burks until week 3-4 as this seems like an injury that'll take a while to completely heal, but it could provide a nice boost and some fresh legs when the rookies are starting to get a little beat up(if it does in fact take that long). I tend to agree, what I think a lot of people don't realize is a strain and tear are basically the same thing, it's simply a matter of severity. It gets reported as a tear in severe cases and only a strain in mild cases...for whatever reason. Anyways, yeah I kind of look at this as probably a pretty severe version of a muscular injury that doesn't require surgery. I do wonder if the severity of damage to the muscle is as bad as Scooter's torn groin, which put him out for 3 months without surgery. I think 3 months would probably land him on injured reserve though, so they probably think he'll be out less time than that. I feel like it's pretty uncommon for even bad muscular injuries that don't require surgery to put a guy out for more than 4-6 weeks, which is kinda why I'm thinking week 3-4 like you. Better to be cautious this early in the season...make sure he's 100%.
  16. Right, his playoffs issues were just him having the yips for a few games. Maybe he let the moment get to him, or maybe he was dealing with an injury. But it was a weird, temporary situation that is unlikely to happen again. I would say he's a below average thrower, adequate blocker, and plus framer. With all that, hard for me to say he's the 3rd best defensive catcher. I still find that weird, that shoudl all net out to him being average defensively and rank in the 5-8 range at best.
  17. For the Nationals, Scherzer may be back on an abbreviated pitch count for one of the weekend games. We also get Corbin on Friday, but we will miss Strasburg as he pitched yesterday. Figure on Fedde or Sanchez for the other game. On the bright side, we'll for sure get 2 RH starters this weekend.
  18. Brewers are currently 1.5 games back from both the wildcard and division. The Cardinals are currently tied, but rank ahead of the Cubs with 1 less win but 1 less loss. I would put the cutoff for teams out of the race at the Reds being 7.5 back. They need a win 10 of 12 stretch in a hurry just to get back to contention. If that's the threshold, there's still 7 teams vying for 2 wildcard spots...with the Giants being furthest out at 4.5 back. It's weird that in the AL, it's really 3 teams only involved in the wildcard. Maybe the Red Sox make a run...but they are 7.5 back and there are so many cupcake matchups. Winning 10 of 12 might only move them from 7.5 back to 5.5 back.
  19. And from when I looked recently, I think he's actually been hitting the ball harder lately than he had earlier in the year. I would be his expected results since the break are better than the 283/401 numbers. I'm expecting him to finish really strong.
  20. I'm not optimistic on this guy yet. He obviously didn't work right and needed fixing, I doubt we got that done in 2 weeks.
  21. This could be a game changer. And if he misses a couple weeks, it will be good for someone else to get a bunch of experience before moving to a backup role.
  22. Yes, pina is way more valuable than lucroy. Relatively equal hitters, but pina is by far the superior defender.
  23. I think with Grandal, you just have to trot him out there and hope he can turn it around. I'm not sure it does him much good to platoon or miss time. It might be somewhat better in the short term to play Pina against lefties and Braun at 1b, but obviously you get worse defensively at 1b and that probably is a negative impact on Grandal over the next month when he inevitably faces LH relievers late in games. Grandal is struggling on both sides of the plate right now, but I think you have to roll with him and hope he can find his early season magic. Hey, for once one of my comments aged well!!!!!!
