  1. I have literally never once seen him jaw at an umpire. Never ever ever. I mean in fear. That's fair, I'd call it moreso diving away like the ball is a grenade or something...but I know what you're talking about.
  2. Laid off the curve and got a heater. Good adjustment. I'm just givin ya a little grief, no worries. Say as many negative things as you want about Arcia...gotta love his attitude. A guy throws at his head...and he's smiling half way to 1st base. You never see him puff out his chest like some players...
  3. Man, I try to stay optimistic but those 2 pitch and 1 pitch atbats are really frustrating.
  4. They don't have Woodruff to PH, and it's the 3rd inning. Save your bench for more critical spots.
  5. Fastball high and away to Winker will get it done I think, he won't be able to catch up by the time he realizes it's the heat.
  6. All these guys are sitting on his slider, at least the lefties. We should go to the pen early and often today, gotta stay in this game. Offday tomorrow so we can use the whole pen.
  7. I think Chacin should throw his slider a bit slower to LH hitters. They all have been ahead of it, but not enough to miss. Able to hang back just enough to pull it over the infielders.
  8. I'll add to that, it's not like Chacin/Peralta/Burnes/etc simply forgot everything DJ worked with them on over the last year. And while some guys got worse, Anderson improved a bit and Woodruff/Davies improved greatly AFTER DJ left. So yeah, I tend to agree with this post.
  9. Sims looks fairly mediocre to me. That curve is definitely a plus pitch, his fastball is meh and he doesn't throw the change much...so I'm assuming it's not that great either.
  10. Why is Yelich swinging so dang hard? You don't need to hit it 500 feet for it to count as a run. 375 is more than enough in most of the park...
  11. How is it that Chacin has minimal fastball command, but can shape his slider however he wants and place it literally wherever he wants? Amazing how the guy can perfectly backdoor a slider on 2-0 count.
  12. Another writer noting the interest in Aguilar.
  13. Lester scratched with bronchitis, Chatwood gets the start. We have to win today and gain a game on this team. The door is hanging wide open in the NL Central and nobody wants it...blows my mind. It's a bit frustrating seeing the Cardinals climb back into the race, that team never goes away quietly.
  14. It did seem a bit weird to me that they simply cut Daniels, but I'm sure they know what they are doing. With all the new guys they added on the line, they couldn't keep them all. I felt like maybe he wasn't THAT great last year, and he's getting older. I also seem to recall him getting a number of stupid unsportsmanlike conduct penalties last year.
  15. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but can't any excess cap be rolled forward? Which would make frontloading pointless. Simple example, the cap is $100 and you currently have spent $95...you want to extend player X for 3 years $9. What difference would it make to go 5/3/1 to max the cap out? You could instead go 3/3/3 and the $2 would be able to be used the following year. To me, frontloading doesn't make sense from a cap perspective. If that's what a player wants and helps you net a better deal, different story.
  16. This is a bit of a unique deadline in a lot of ways, but one thing in particular is lack of quality RH bats. The Rays have reportedly also shown interest in Castellanos and Pence, them and Jose Abreu are the only RH bats I can think of that are at least somewhat available and quality bats. The White Sox are reportedly being dumb and planning to not move Abreu, or maybe that was just posturing. But add in there are quite a few teams that could use a quality RH bat...especially considering how lefthanded so many of the contending teams are. Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, and Red Sox all have a majority LH SP...I think that and an oddly low number of quality RH bats available makes me think now might be the best time to sell Aguilar. That and he's heating up, which every team knows...so it's not like they can look at his season line and justify a lowball offer. I'll also add, the Rays being interested tells me Aguilar is probably more valuable than most people think. That FO for whatever reason seems to be light years ahead of most other FO. I always wonder how teams like that don't have the Yankees and Red Sox offering double or triple salaries to their best people...maybe it happens, but I would think eventually the Rays would stop having the best FO and such excellent talent development if that were the case.
  17. Keep in mind, there are 29 other teams all try to improve and contend at the highest level. Being consistently good is an excellent goal, but so much easier said than done.
