  1. Gotta love all the posturing. GM's will probably start actually talking on July 31st about 3 hours before teh deadline.
  2. A couple other SS that would be more significant splashes, Nick Ahmed and Trevor Story. Ahmed has 1 more year of arbitration and is getting 3.7 million this year. Trevor Story has 2 more years of arbitration and is getting 5 million this year. Obviously their costs would be significantly different, but I think one or both teams may punt on the season...and may be open to trading for pitching despite the team control. Again, just food for thought. Not really advocating in any direction. For all I know, both teams may win 4 straight and buy.
  3. I completely understand letting people know at some point, and well before they enact the policy. I tend to think maybe it very recently got approved and they just decided to roll it out without any thought to the specific day.
  4. I would buy that Brewers people are looking at the site, but not necessarily FO/baseball ops as noted above. There are plenty of threads related to SSH rewards, rule changes, ballpark policies, etc that would certainly be useful. I also wonder if the Brewers FO ever got wind of the whole HH19 episode. He did call the Lucroy trade, and I'd think they'd at minimum review something like that to try and plug leaks. Just like I'm sure they are aware that Brett guy on twitter caught wind of the Moose trade multiple hours before any reporter had it.
  5. Cain Yelich - LF Grandal Moose Hiura Thames - RF Aguilar Arcia P Official. I don't love Thames defense in RF with a flyball pitcher on the mound. Thames has been hitting well enough it's not a huge deal though.
  6. I just saw a blurb that the Rockies will not be looking to add at the deadline. Doesn't necessarily mean they'll sell, but they are playing bad and probably makes sense to explore selling moves. Relief options that caught my eye are Bryan Shaw and Jake McGee. Both signed for 3/27 last year and have been fairly meh this year. Both are solid arms that I would think we could get for next to no prospect value. Not specifically advocating for either guy, just throwing options out there.
  7. Purses and backpacks with 10 different compartments are the easiest for the wrong person to sneak in the wrong thing, as well as the most time consuming item to check. There also is only a finite amount of space/doors people can enter from. And frankly, fans are the reason the process moves so slowly...so logically any change made should be made by the fans and not security anyways.
  8. Yeah I just went and looked, what a bunch of whiners. And then they blame security people for being incompetent, unreal. It's far more common for an incompetent fan to get to the front of the line and realize they need to empty their pockets...rather than having them empty when they get to the front of the line. I also read the new policy, it's really not prohibitive at all. If I ever bring stuff in to the park, it's usually a bag of peanuts and a water or soda in a pick n save bag. Takes them all of 2 seconds to see everythign I have is fine...while with a backpack they need you to unzip 3-4 pockets and look in cramped compartments. I'll also add this new policy is definitely better from a security standpoint. Much more difficult for the wrong person to sneak in something bad in a hidden backpack compartment with the new policy.
  9. I watched one of the saves, he looked very good. Fastball 97-98 consistently, got bad swings on his curve. Command wasn't pinpoint, but didn't walk anyone and didn't miss his spots super bad ever. That signing was not good for the Brewers.
  10. Ahh, I see that now. A high enough percentage of people will be ready for it that it's whatever then.
  11. If Sogard can play a decent SS, he would be a pretty solid addition at the deadline actually. Cain Yelich Moose Hiura Grandal Thames Braun Sogard P Obviously you're missing the defensive stud...but that lineup doesn't really have a hole anywhere. If he can't play a solid SS, he wouldn't be a bad guy to look at but I don't think he'd be a great fit.
  12. I didn't know where else to put this but I found it interesting. I personally love it, but I also never carry a bag into the game. That said...I suspect this is going to seriously piss off a significant portion of the fan base initially. How many people are initially going to get sent to put their purse/backpack back in their car? They probably need to have like a 1 month grace period where fans can enter, but are told next time they won't be allowed.
  13. Team reports this week. No drama leading into camp is a good thing. There will be drama of how to divvy up playing time between 7 WR that all look awesome in camp...
  14. Barring us losing 5 or 6 games this week, I would be shocked to see us sell.
  15. A lot of guys have had a lot of success against Anderson, not great. Also, the Brewers were pretty bad last time out against Gray. This is going to be a tough one to win.
  16. The Giants are on fire but they still have to play really well over the next 62 games to have a good shot at the WC. 8 games over seems like a realistic low end for the last wild card teams about to buy and bad teams about to sell. That means the Giants have to go 35-27 down the stetch just to hit that low end. Do they believe they can they sustain that kind of run? Any short losing streak makes it very hard. They feel more like the Pirates last year than anything else. I agree with your two posts about the Brewers and Cubs. Obviously I would feel much better about our chances with Woodruff but the Cub's road heavy schedule is nice to see. Cubs also have 10 games vs the Cards, 3 against each the Phillies and Nationals. The Brewers just have 5 against the Cards and 3 against the Nationals. The Brewers on paper have a tough August (If the Rangers and Dbacks sell it gets a little nicer) and a little easier September (starts tough but 17 of last 20 should be against none playoff teams) The Giants being on fire is only relevant over the next 3 games...at least to me. I like that they are playing well with the Cubs coming to town. The only other NL team I'm concerned with is the Cubs...but even still I'm mostly concerned with the Brewers playing better baseball and churning out wins. It just would be nice for the Giants to win 2 or 3 against the Cubs whiel we win 2 or 3 against the Reds...and then to win the series against he Cubs and take the division lead. That would put to bed any notion that we should even consider selling.
  17. I just noticed, the Cubs are nearly the worst road team in the NL this year. 18-27 away. The Marlins are 18-29 and the Reds are 19-29. Every other NL team has at least 20 wins on the road. They've also played 54 home games vs 45 road games so far.
  18. The Giants are on fire, and the Reds have lost 7 of 10 since the break. Between that series and the head to head, this is a great opportunity to take the division lead from the Cubs. Reminder, we play the Cubs 13 more times this season. We certainly control our own destiny.
  19. I would guess August/September? Last I saw was late August would be best case scenario. As in no setbacks, and he looks sharp in AAA. After TJ, most guys take some time to get their command back...and considering Suter throws like 37 mph, he's going to need every bit of that command back to be effective. I wouldn't count on the Brewers letting him pitch at the MLB level this season.
  20. This would be a great thread to pin up top for the next 2 weeks...
  21. Note on Greinke. Even at $10 million/year...that's a pretty tough contract for this team to take on.
  22. B-R has him with a 1.1 WAR. B-R has Guerra at 0.2 and Albers at 0.1. He's definitely an upgrade over Albers. If you get him as the 2nd acquisition along with Smith, that's the kind of depth they need. i think getting a really good RH relief option is critical. Ideally a RH reliever that isn't specifically dominant against RH hitters. We have Hader from the left, I think we need someone from the right. Not saying Hudson is that guy, because he isn't...moreso noting that Smith might not be the best target for that reason as well. Better to grab someone like Colome or Giles.
  23. I'd like to see us go with Gamel Yelich Grandal Moose Braun Thames Hiura Arcia P Pretty standard lineup at this point, primarily I would like to see Cain get a day off after all the acrobatics yesterday. He also hasn't had a day off since the break...only 7 days but I really want Cain to stay fresh.
  24. Not as lame as when a team has a city ordinance forcing their friday games to always be day games...but they get a special exception to have a night game for competitive reasons. Also not as lame as having a "rain out" on a sunny day because your bullpen is tired and the other team is hot. Ok rant over...yes it is pretty lame if teams do that for competitive reasons...but sometimes they have valid reasons. I know St Louis does it because its very hot and humid during the day in certain months(on a side, the Cardinals host the Cubs at the end of July and are forcing the Cubs to have a night game on 8/1 followed by a day game against us at Wrigley on 8/2). I'm sure LA has their reasons, but as long as they aren't competitive or directed specifically at said team...it's whatever.
  25. I like Shane Greene, but I wouldn't pay a ton for him. Also despite his splits this year...his arsenal plays significantly better against RH hitters. You reeeeeeally wouldn't want him pitching to Bellinger, Rizzo, or Freeman in a critical spot. Not saying we wouldn't want him, if we get him...be prepared for that.
