  1. No trade clauses are basically just tools nowadays to put more money in a player's pocket. If geographical location played much of a role in deciding where ball players played San Francisco and Seattle would be overflowing with great players. Rather, professional ball players go wherever the money is, often times that isn't Milwaukee. It's a creative idea to trade Moustakas but trying to make the playoffs and trading him away is just weakening one part of your team to strengthen another. It doesn't make the roster more talented. Well it's not just geographic location. The Yankees are very desired because they generally have so much other talent, and all the historic reasons. How well a franchise is run matters as well. Sure some guys will go sign with the Marlins or Orioles if they are the top bidder and only care about $, but a significant chunk of players(especially top players) want to play for a team with a plan and that has a chance to compete/win.
  2. I applaud this level of optimism No reason not to be optimistic as long as they have a realistic shot at the playoffs. I'm realist enough to know that this team is playing like crap right now. But they also have a ton of talent, and that gives me hope that they can go on a run. Is this team living up to expectations? No. Are they as good as last year's team? Probably not (although they have time to change that). Do they still have time to make the rest of this season a lot of fun? Hell yeah! The talent is there, too many guys not playing to expectations for all sorts of reasons. That can change at any moment or it can take until next season. I have virtually zero patience left for all these people talking about how bad this team is. How is it fun to go on a fan forum and do nothing but dunk on the team you're supposedly a fan of? Maybe we create a negativity thread and quarantine all the negative posters in there(which is way too big a chunk of this board), the rest of us can be some combination of positive and realistic and have more enjoyable back and forth.
  3. Everything I've read says Merrifield is going to require a monster offer to acquire, an offer so big that he probably won't move. Also factor in the Cubs farm system being even worse than ours...there's no way they can get Merrifield. Gordon and/or Kennedy are possible.
  4. I'll also add that trading Moose in a move trying to compete is not a good look...especially if he truly took less to play here. That will be a negative mark in future negotiations with players. Right now, I feel like Milwaukee is about as desired a location as we've ever been. We're maybe middle of the pack, where as normally we are a lock for every good players no trade list.
  5. I don't think the Giants are getting enough as I don't think they'll get a ton of quality prospects for Moose, also it's tough to imagine the team being better without him...especially considering he's one of our best hitters and offense has been our biggest problem.
  6. I find this really weird too. Caritini has actually been really good at the plate. He pretty much smashes the ball every time he's up. Maybe they have a series of trades already lined up? I'm sure they have their reasons, but at face value I don't understand this move for them.
  7. I didn't know where else to post this. Is this trade wildly insane for the Astros or is it just me?
  8. One additional comment, if the Giants rattle off a 8 wins in 10 game stretch over the first week and a half...they might not sell. The are currently thumping the Rockies in game 1 of a doubleheader today. It's possible playing the Giants now was simply bad timing...kinda like when we faced the Marlins in June.
  9. Dubon is a better pure hitter than Spange/Saladino/freitas/etc...he also was returning from most of a missed season and wasn't as good in April/May. He was better than all the guys you listed in June/July, he also has more speed and is a better defender than any of them. Dubon has added strenght since 2017, and you are cherry picking as 2017 was by far the worst of his career. Dubon is over a 300 hitter over his minor league career and should hit for average and therefore get on base at the mlb level. The Brewers could sure use a guy that gets on base at a high clip as we have plenty of bats that can bring him around to score.
  10. I think there will be enough relief options that we don't need to pony up a good prospect for Smith+. I think we're better off trading lesser prospects on separate deals for relievers than giving up Dubon for 2 guys. It would be one thing if we were getting MadBum as well, but I think we can get better deals on 2 relievers than giving up Dubon. Plus, trading Dubon creates a hole at SS...as Saladino/Arcia aren't exactly getting it done.
  11. So apparently the article I posted(too cheap to pay for the Athletic) hints at a Dubon for Smith trade? Is that true? That feels like way too much for a rental. It might make sense to trade Dubon+ for MadBum AND Smith. I'm aware the + would have to be fairly significant. Dubon + Supak + Henry maybe?
  12. I'm well aware that I'm in the minority on disliking pitch framing. To me, it's not really different from flopping in soccer to try and get a penalty kick. Only in soccer, they started giving yellow cards to guys that dishonestly tried to trick the ref by flopping...in baseball teams give you more money for being better at tricking the umpire. And I definitely 1000000% agree with the bolded. They can say they get 97% of calls correct all they want, but I personally don't buy it.
  13. I personally think pitch framing and pitchers expanding the strike zone is pure trash and should never have been a part of baseball. It's dishonest in my opinion, basically manipulating the umpire into calls you don't deserve. The strike zone should be binary, either a pitch is a strike or it isn't. All that said, that article had a lot of good arguments against the electronic strike zone that need to be worked out if they were to implement. I just firmly disagree with the reasons such as pitch framing and command guys being able to expand the strike zone as if those things are normal, acceptable parts of the game.
  14. I found this to be a very good article on the electronic strike zone, if anyone is interested.
  15. Here's a link to an article, not sure if that's the source.
  16. My football knowledge is not very strong, but I'm pretty excited about the changes made. I like the effort we made to improve the defense, I think we'll be very physical at the line of scrimmage especially...not entirely sure how the secondary will do though. Hopefully the pass rush makes them look like probowlers. I think the offense struggling the last few years was largely based on an old and predictable offensive scheme...so bringing in a more creative offensive mind should be a positive, hard to be less creative than McCarthy. I'm excited to see how some of the young receivers and rb look in the new offense.
  17. And people say the calls go both ways, blah blah blah. How much different is this game if that's called correctly and Yelich bats. For starters, Holland gets used...that alone is good for the Brewers. And a very mediocre lefty against the MVP...
  18. What he's done over the last three weeks, combined with how Thames has looked lately, has made me much less worried about the production from the 1B position. Seriously, those guys are plug and play in the 4/5 spot in the order every day right now. I hope it continues.
  19. Man Aguilar seriously looks so much better. He's comfortable in the box, feet aren't fidgeting, and he's making good contact.
  20. Thames looks really good at the plate. I really want the team to give Aguilar some at bats, but hard to with Thames looking so good
  21. Regarding Burnes, yes he is a bad pitcher right now and pretty much all season. That said, he has electric stuff and simply needs some work. It probably won't be this season, but he will be a productive pitcher for this team again. Take it to the bank.
  22. Fair point, I just don't understand being so pessimistic(not just directed at any one poster or person). I'd so much rather hope for the best and have it not work out than constantly have a "welp we suck and nothing will ever work out" and then be pleasantly surprised when it does work out. What's the point in even being a fan of a team if you're constantly dunking on them and expecting the worst? To each their own I guess, I personally prefer the positive approach.
