  1. I'm interested to see how that's scored. Couldn't possibly be an error...not even sure he could get up and get to 1b in time.
  2. Caleb Smith deserves credit... he did the baseball equivalent of kicking to Devin Hester. Caleb Smith, you are a REAL MAN, and we salute you! That's so good. Well done sir.
  3. That's enough seasons of sample that it isn't a completely ridiculous notion on Smith, a bit concerning he's so bad in the 2nd half... I did a simple career stats search, he's over 100 OPS worse in the 2nd half than the 1st half. That's a really weird split.
  4. I got a little nervous, after my comment he threw 3 straight outside FB. Overall, really nice start from Peralta. No k's, but mostly weak contact and his command is pretty good. Also velocity has been 93-95 and one 96.
  5. I don't wanna be that guy that jinxes us, but Peralta's command seems very good his first handful of pitches. Curve has a ton of bite to it as well. Promising first batter for sure
  6. Certainly a fair thing to wonder, but I can't imagine him selling. 5 games out of the wildcard likely means under 500. Washington is 5 games out of the wildcard right now at 28-33. We are 6 games over right now, hard to imagine this team going something like 18-24 over the next 42 games up until July 24th...that record would put us at 500. And our schedule is fairly soft over the next month or so. These 2 games are an anomally, obviously this team is good or they wouldn't be 6 games over 500 after starting with such a daunting schedule.
  7. You should probably temper your expectations. Money available is NOT a blank check.
  8. I'm going to double down on this in a way, I think we'll know by the end of the first inning which team is going to win this game.
  9. #1, yes, BUT markets fluctuate over time for many reasons, regardless of past precedence. Chapman for Torres was a pretty unprecedented trade when it was done, and I doubt any team would do it now. #2, we also can't compare prospects straight up based on their organizational ranking, as your #5 prospect one year might only be as good as your #12 prospect in other years or in other systems. Just because Dubon is highly rated in our system doesn't mean he is very valued as a trade chip. Looking at Soria for Medeiros+ last year, I'd say Medeiros probably had comparable value alone at that moment to what Brown is worth right now, and Smith is more valuable than Soria was. Both guys grade out at 45-50 on most sites, takes the guesswork out. Medeiros was probably slightly less valuable than Brown at the time of trade as he had less of a track record and required a 40 man spot, also he had serious command issues that were improving but still existed. It's not a bad comparison, just saying I think Brown has a bit more value than Medeiros. I felt at the time that it was a bit of an overpay, but we were probably going to lose Medeiros anyways. This and the Moose trade were part of resolving the 40 man crunch. And Smith really isn't THAT much more valuable than Soria in my opinion. Not enough to warrant Brown AND Dubon. I could see maybe one and some lesser/younger pieces that are probably not on our top 30 but are having solid seasons in low a or instructional/rookie leagues when they start up. More likely, they try for a 2 for 1 with 2 prospects less valuable than both guys.
  10. I may be in the minority, but I'm getting very close to wanting Cain pulled from the leadoff spot and get more than the occasional day off. I'd like to see him only leading off against LHP, and giving Gamel 1 sometimes 2 starts a week in the outfield against RHP. Arcia, Braun, Gamel, Hiura, Thames, Perez are other leadoff options if they pull Cain from that spot temporarily. I'm also getting close to calling for Arcia to move up in the lineup. He's 7th today, but if he continues hitting for another couple weeks...might be time to consider him for the top of the order. Not only his numbers, but his approach at the plate is so much better. He's seeing a ton of pitches and not chasing the slider away nearly as much.
  11. No denying this hurts our chances of winning the division Hurts our chances, absolutely. But the season is far from over. The Brewers have a ton of talent, and we'll have opportunities to improve our weaknesses over the next couple months as well. The Cubs look better on paper right now, but what if the Brewers add Smoak, Will Smith, and Stroman? Do they still look better? Maybe...but it's a lot closer. And again, that's on paper. Even if we don't add, the team is still good enough to seriously contend. Nobody is talking about taking our ball and going home.
  12. Take a look at 2017 trade deadline reliever trades for some precedent, there are no rental reliever trades acquiring 2 prospects like Brown/Dubon. I feel like not enough people look at past trades for comparables, no sense in trying to reinvent the wheel or throw out names and see what feels right...or however you come up with this stuff. Look at past trades, plug in comparable Brewers...you're going to be way more accurate that way.
  13. Dubon/Brown is too much for half a season of a reliever. Is there any precedent to giving up two of a teams top 10 prospects for half a season of a non-Chapman caliber reliever in the last 5 years?
  14. I feel like we're going to see either 7-8 shutout innings, or 2 innings of 6 run ball...with absolutely no in-between. FWIW I'm benching him in my dynasty league, I'm a bit too concerned about it being the latter.
