  1. You deal Gamel and have Grisham as the 4th OF. Honestly, if the power surge is real, then I think Grisham is a middle of the order masher as opposed to leadoff hitter. Huh? What do you think you're getting back in return for Gamel? Grisham is significantly more valuable in a trade which is why he's the guy that's being mentioned and not Gamel. Need big bait to land big fish.
  2. Are the Baby Brewer games attended by fans? I know he doesn't have the most dynamic stuff around, but any reports on how Suter threw the ball would be welcomed.
  3. I'm confused here. Are you actually insinuating that Stearns would run the team better if he made moves based on what the fans think? If so, what is your tolerance for 40 win seasons?
  4. I tend to agree with this and Grandal has slowed a bit since the break but replacing Moose with the 2019 version of Shaw makes me cringe. Shaw hasn't earned a bench role much less a starting role for the rest of the year.
  5. I think at this point he's got to get his reps in and actually earn it down there this time. You can't bring him up to be a gas can down the stretch when every game means something.
  6. The subject is "failed expectations". You can't possibly suggest that Burnes and Peralta haven't failed their expectations in a major way? The front office carried out their offseason plan expecting Burnes and Peralta to step into the rotation. That is why they didn't resign Miley, that is why they didn't try to acquire any starting pitching in the off season. Their inability to pitch effectively in the rotation resulted in a chain reaction and is certainly one reason the team is where it is right now. In terms of being an "All Time Failure", the 2019 Brewers are the defending Division Champions and had the best record in their league last season. Even if they suddenly and magically started winning again at a .589 clip, that would put them around 87-88 wins. The reality is they'll more likely than not finish around 83-79, an incredible tumble from 2018 and despite returning almost every key contributor from the 96 win team. With Peralta and Burnes' struggles being one of the main components of this collapse, I would say that is an all time failure even for this team which is mostly known for futility. I would argue if your forecast of 83 wins comes to fruition it's more of a regression to the mean than anything. Take away last year's success and look at the rotation starting the year for what it was. Three young guys with little starting experience, a guy coming off a somewhat disappointing year (Davies) and a guy coming off a career year last year (Chacin). Who outside of MIL was thinking that rotation was capable of a repeat performance?
  7. Peralta doesn't agree. Nor does his 2.57 reliever ERA. Hader Houser and Peralta are our 3 best pen arms. I don't recall Peralta hitting 97, 98 like he was yesterday. The guy can't hit the glove to save his life but if that is the new Freddy, I'm willing to see where this goes.
  8. And you're not employed by the Brewers so...... I know its called.....hold on ......an opinion. And Bill being employed by the Brewers is called....hold on....a fact. What are you expecting? A Steve Stone, circa 2004 rant that ultimately got him fired? We can agree that he's not Steve Stone and partially because of that, it's not gonna happen.
  9. Niceeee Do we have a first here? A reply off of your own post? Probably not but it seems like a rarity, even for here.
  10. Thinking outside the box along these lines is a good thing, IMO. Ideally, I'd go for option #1 - Ray and Greinke for a combination of Nottingham, Erceg, and Chase Anderson. Keep to that. That provides a rotation of Woodruff, Greinke, Ray, Davies, and Gio when all are healthy. Bullpen of Hader, Peralta, Jeffress, Houser, Peralta, Claudio, Jackson, Guerra, and Chacin. Hard part after that is extending Moose and Grandal... but that pitching staff gives Milwaukee a very good shot at a World Series win. I'm assuming this should be in blue. The Brewers don't even want those guys, why would any one else want them?
  11. I like Grisham and think he has nice potential. I've been creeping/posting around here for some time now, been a Brewer fan for 35 years, have seen many similarly profiled guys fizzle out and think Grisham will be a player in the end. That said, I hope nobody around here is getting their facts from Brew Crew 92 because a month and a half into the season Grisham was hitting .219 with a .678 OPS, which is nobody on planet earth's definition of "elite." Definitely not at AA.
  12. Because losing that big of an asset for nothing at all is devastating to the near future after he does leave, particularly for a small market team. This is a hope strategy and there's not a single successful business on earth that runs on a continuous hope strategy. We lost Fielder, and what would that have gotten us at peak? The infamous, Daniel Hudson? Maybe I'm in the minority, but if a team can compete for a playoff berth, a team can win it all. Some here seem to have forgotten how hard it is just to get in. As long as we have a chance to get in with Yelich on the team, I'm going to trust my fellow Harvard alum over the disagreeing fanbase here and run with it.
  13. I apologize in advance to the Stache because this post was incredible. That said, it's worth noting that 95% of Brewerfan.net crapped all over the idea of acquiring Odirizzi in the off-season and crapped even harder when the Twins grabbed him. Exhibit A-Z why fans are fans.
  14. Part of me is left wondering if those "unexplainable baseball things" would have been explainable if Derek Johnson was still on the staff. Just sayin'.
  15. I've never understood where the idea that Woodruff ever struggled came from. I certainly didn't think that watching him and the box scores from 2017 and 2018 seem to validate that. One or two outings each year skewed the overall results. To me, that's just a young guy going through some bumps. Given time as he was this year, Woody was able to get it going. Remember, he didn't get off to a great start by any stretch this year. As for Burnes, the kid needs to be sent down, ASAP. I don't care what he says, they are really running the risk of damaging his long term confidence by trotting him out there every other day. Can't ruin a guy with that much upside.
  16. He was once a highly thought of prospect and not a try hard guy in the Counsell mold? While not quite as bad, Saladino is approaching the 1-50ish type slump that ultimately ended Counsell's career.
  17. Got it. Because I wasn't born with MLB athleticism and gifts I'll just keep my mouth shut. Great way to approach life in general! Now there's a fresh, hot take. So you're born with major league gifts and by default, your development is held to a different standard than the rest of society? Word, bird. Thank God the lunatic fringe isn't running the team.
  18. Frankly, without going back and digging deep into the archives to know for sure, I'm guessing those that are bagging on Arcia were also anti-Segura. The kid is 24. I would have loved to have seen what half the people laying the hammer down here were doing at 24. Personally, the best thing I did at 24 was shotgun beers in the MP parking lot. Baseball player, accountant, insurance salesman, foundry worker, whatever the career path. Sometimes it just takes time to figure it out.
  19. .284 .342 .407 .749 - Orlando Arcia's career MILB numbers while being 2 years younger than Dubon at every level. .301 .348 .424 .772 - Mauricio Dubon's career MILB numbers. Not much difference. It'll be fun to see if Mauricio can translate his MILB numbers to some success at this level. We could use his versatility. He's not an all world defender but Arcia hasn't been very good either this year so defense is probably a wash.
  20. There's a huge difference between a just turned 23 year old putting up big numbers in AAA than an almost 30 year old. Maybe but also maybe not. Time will tell on that one.
  21. Who? Besides Woodruff. The Brewers have a bottom 10 farm system right now, they don't have a true game changer outside of Hiura, and he's about to graduate off the list anyway. Too numerous to mention. But I’ll give you a couple, Houser and Rasmussen. Houser’s already making a name for himself on the crew’s big league staff, Rasmussen’s had a meteoric rise up the ladder to AA, and has the arsenal of a Tor or dominant pen arm. Look for Devon Williams at some point later this year to make his debut with the crew in the pen, with his near 100 mph FB. You should get a opportunity to watch him pitch in the futures game coming up. Tremendous depth of pitching all the way from The 2 Arizona rookie league teams thru AAA. Don’t sleep on this pitching. Let me play devil's advocate to your extreme optimism. Houser is 26 and probably not regarded as a prospect by anyone and certainly not thought of as a potentially game changing pitcher. It's nice to see what Rasmussen has done in a short period of time but the ceiling kind of caved in for an extended stretch in AA. He's exactly where he should be and probably should start there next year...next year being his age 25 season. The Devin Williams story is a nice one but velocity isn't everything and he's a potential back end of the pen type guy, at very best. An unfortunate bi-product of Josh Hader's success has been that many on this board now are looking for the "next Hader." Finally, I think we may need to differentiate between "tremendous depth" and "tremendous impact depth" because I don't see alot of impact right now. That's not a death sentence for what's there it's just saying that there aren't alot of guys that have proven anything.
  22. Totally agree. If you don't like BA, you're saying alot about yourself. There's a reason the guy does major sporting event after major sporting event and it's not because people dislike him. Some people just like to hate and be angry.
