  1. I have not heard anything on our former 2nd round pick and I'm not seeing any statistics associated with him this year on his MILB page. Does anyone have insight on what's going on with him? Seems like an awfully conservative plan they have with him assuming he's healthy.
  2. I don't even know why we're talking about Bauer when BC92 has already told us we have an ace waiting in the wings for the playoff push. His name is Drew Rasmussen.
  3. My guess is that they think Dubon might take over at SS at some point and want to keep getting him steady at bats especially since he missed so much of last year. I don't know about this. I've only watched Dubon a few times but my takeaway has been that he's not real fluid out there at SS and seems like more of a 2B. Between he and Hiura, that might be the worst defensive middle infield in some time.
  4. Erceg hasn't hit since he was in A ball and even then it wasn't that great for a college player. Erceg should have no bearing on any decision they make with Shaw. Thank you, Jesus. Someone sees the big picture here.
  5. When it's all said and done, he'll be what he is. A #4/5 starter. MLB history is littered with guys who have a few great starts out of the gates and regressed to the mean. This story will not end differently.
  6. My guess is that Rasmussen isn't even close to the top 100 if you ask the guys that put these lists together. Vastly overrated on here. The minor leagues are glorified practice but still, not many top 100 guys get shelled to the tune of 11 runs in 10IP at any given stretch in a year.
  7. You're picking a weird hill to die on here. A 24 year old minor league arm off TJ that's wrecking every level. I remember CC having very favorable comments about his arm in ST. He may not make the majors this year, but very strong chance we see him in AAA at the rate he's going...possibly after only a couple more starts. The nature of hype. When its high its almost always too high. When it swings the other way its typically too drastic. I'm not killing the guy, I have my concerns and I'm sitting in rational territory. Thrilled to have him in the system. Not buying the 2019 playoff secret weapon stuff. For his age, he's getting promoted aggressively like he should be. I even called the promotion to Biloxi between his last A+ game and the AA promotion. In a thread largely filled with helium and hope, Rasmussen's last four outings kind of tell us that the measured approach is often best with prospects. I highly doubt he'll be in Milwaukee this year and that's not a setback. That's the developmental curve for most top level prospects moving their way up.
  8. Do they need it or do you just want to see it? They've averaged 5.25 runs per game since he was sent down.
  9. didn't you say we had something like 6 potential aces? I've taken things with a grain of salt since then. regardless, love seeing the enthusiasm. I remember my days in college spending lots of time on this site, posting a crap ton. Of course, back then it was all about the Link Report and the minor league forum, as our MLB teams were pretty bad. Now it’s 6 aces. 3-4 tor arms including Nelson is what I said. Then admitted it was a silly prediction. And Every now and then it’s thrown back at me, but only by a certain few, and that’s ok because most see them for what they are. Do we even have 1 "Ace?" Personally, I don't think so.
  10. Didn't Clint Coulter dominate A ball as a 20 year old? I think perspective tells us that alot can happen as these guys move up the chain. I'll be happy if we get a solid starter out of any of the three although I think Feliciano is showing a hell of alot of upside as a 20 year old at High A and has top 100 potential.
  11. I think we need to maybe pump the brakes a bit on this. While Grisham is coming on, all five guys currently have a number of questions marks around them. To me, we shouldn't be looking to replace a Brewer legend and lineup mainstay for 13+ years with questions marks. Question marks tend to be adequate placeholders, at best. With that said, time will tell. Stay tuned.
  12. And what if he regains his fastball???
  13. I don't think he shifts off SS though. I think the 2b stuff is more to do with the fact that Coca is a young gun who's starting to bloom as well. Like Henry Feliciano in A+ Arcia hits arby next year. Would be nice to see him keep this up and take over in time to trade Arcia. Coca's blooming? News to me.
  14. BANNED! Why? Arcia was a way higher rated prospect than Cain. Give the young dudes a rip.
  15. In the case of Phillips, outside of some brief flashes of brilliance in hitter's paradise Colorado Springs, it just seems like he never got on track after coming over from Houston. It's like Stearns got here, took a look around, and went after the first taker he could find for him knowing he couldn't play. Kudos, DS!
  16. Where you were selected means next to nothing when you start lacing them up. In evaluating a prospect, do you grade draft position or what you see on the field? Is Rasmussen, a guy with almost identical stuff to Burnes and maybe just a tick less, a better prospect than Burnes simply b/c of where he "could" have been drafted if not for injury? That premise seems to fly in the face of the concept of development. There have been many, many top ten picks that have flamed out and never reached their ceiling.....See Corey Ray.
  17. Without seeing Rasmussen yet, that’s a tall order. K-Rod has a slider that was the best I had ever seen, and he was throwing straight gas when not many guys did. Tall order yes, but he’s already done what no pitcher in baseball has done this year > low A to high A to AA in a little over a month. 96-99 with a plus slider gives him more than just a chance. It gives him the same chance that Corbin Burnes has had this year given they profile almost identically.
  18. I really think it's more about the secondary stuff. Guys at this level have much better secondary pitches and locate them much more consistently. Could be a matter of him just guessing up there not knowing what's coming.
  19. The way he's gotten out of the gates, I think it would be a mild disappointment if he didn't. Also, I think he may need to get there for the Crew to have a shot at the division.
  20. Bump. I have to believe his current numbers would put him in the top 20% of starting MLB outfielders. If you were going to hate on him when the numbers were bad, time to wear it when he moves back closer to his mean performance. This is where Braun ranks among 73 MLB OF for: fWAR (0.5) = 43/73 (his defense is still a liability) wRC+ (118) = 34/73 wOBA (.350) = 31/73 For those who need help with the math, top 20% would be 14th place and higher... Not quite top 20%, maybe average or slightly above average and all for only $18M... What a deal... Given the season has started, why do salaries and "deals" matter? If I told you before the season, without taking salary into consideration and telling you who the team was, that your team's 3rd outfielder would be above league average, I think most would be reasonable to take it and not care what the money that's already been spent was.
