  1. Party time for Cubs fans. Not looking forward to seeing Teheran face the Reds lineup Sunday if the Brewers stick with the 6 man rotation.
  2. I’m curious what your proposal would be for selecting All Star rosters. I’ll preface my comments by saying that who gets selected for the All Star Game is very low on my list of things in sports that I care about. With the predominant use of the game’s best closers to pitch much of the game, a game that was already a meaningless exhibition has become a dull exhibition. Your comments suggest that you would prefer a statistical evaluation to choose players over selecting fan favorites or players selected by their peers. That would seem to have the potential to make the game even less appealing to the public, which might prefer seeing an established star like Mike Trout over some Joe Nobody who happens to have a slightly higher FWAR + over the first 10 weeks of this season.
  3. Maybe a couple of failures to make spectacular plays but, for the second outing in a row Teheran isn’t fooling anyone.
  4. I would take that right now if offered. With all of the holiday activities going on I expect the Cubs to have the home crowd advantage today and tomorrow too.
  5. The Cubs have the edge in SP matchups in this series with 2 good lefties and Stroman. Hendricks seems to run hot or cold against the Brewers. The Brewers matchup with the Reds may be significantly different than the series last month with de la Cruz in the mix and the rest of their offense hot and able to steal bases at will. They’ll also have Aboott again. I don’t think the Brewers can shut down that offense or slug it out with them like the Braves did. Between the heavy load of inter divisional games (including the 3 series against the Reds) and the two series against the Braves, this month could tell us a lot about the Brewers prospects for the playoffs. Another extended hitting slump could bury them.
  6. Good road trip with some big games against division opponents coming up. The July schedule is a challenge: 9 with the Reds and 6 with the Braves leading the way.
  7. It’s pretty sad when the guy hitting third in the order everyday is one of the last guys you want to see up in a run scoring situation
  8. Some are obvious enough that it shouldn’t be necessary.
  9. I think that was tongue in cheek. On both points.
  10. Not if they remove him from the rotation.
  11. Geez Perkins, don’t do that to me.
  12. At least for now. Kind of a risk letting him go another inning. .
  13. Might have something to do with how the minor leaguers seem to pitch when they’re given a chance. Also the fact that Rea has been no worse than Peralta.
  14. Rea serving up BP. HR, 2 ripping doubles, and a 400 foot fly ball from the first 6 batters.
  15. Brewers with the infield in in the first inning. Counsell knows 1 run could be enough for the Pirates.
  16. I have the Sunday morning game on Peacock on, and Mullins made as good a catch as you’ll ever see, plucking a ball off just before it hit the wall while running at full speed.
  17. Reynolds is back and the Brewers are facing a soft tossing lefty while fielding a vintage Sunday lineup (no Yelich). Montaserio at DH says a lot about the rogues gallery of fringe players that Counsell has at his disposal. Losing a series to the Pirates would suck after letting the first game get away but, considering the match up, it looks more likely than not.
  18. If recency is the issue then go back to 2021 and look at where the Cardinals stood in early to mid August. Their playoff chances were less than 5% then.
  19. Not good news on Woodruff today. His next bullpen session has been pushed back because he hasn’t been recovering as well as they’d like.
  20. Glad that’s over. That last half hour or so was not fun.
  21. The double whammy of that 8th inning is that the Pirates have swung themselves back around to the top of their order (starting with number 9). If whoever comes in for the save puts a few men on we might be seeing McCutchen and Suwinski as the potential tying or winning run.
  22. The Brewers have had some memorable disastrous series in Pittsburgh over the years. If they blow this game it may top them all.
