  1. I don’t think it’s a good send when the relay throw is coming to the shortstop in short left field as the runner is rounding third. All the SS has to do is make the throw home on the fly and the runner is dead. But then, the chances of the runner being safe are probably no lower than the chances of the next 3 Brewers hitters getting the runs in.
  2. I thought maybe the Brewers could get through an inning with a lead, but it isn’t looking good.
  3. There’s no place to hide him in the field on a regular basis. Unless a team is willing to have a nearly full time DH it’s hard to find a roster spot for him.
  4. Isn’t there another board for this. Not everyone here is a Badger fan (I know I’m not).
  5. I saw that part. I was actually thinking about going to bed right then with the Brewers in the lead but I wasn’t fast enough.
  6. I see I didn’t miss anything by going to bed early.
  7. All on the road. So, to get a home playoff game they not only have to pass the Padres and/or Phillies but then they would have to win a best of 3 series on the road, probably against the Cardinals.
  8. Do you think the Brewers are selling a lot of season ticket packages for next year with the lure of postseason tickets for this year?
  9. Padres could be moving ahead of the Phillies in the wild card race tonight.
  10. Best Brewers offensive weapon this week: the bases loaded walk.
  11. The Mets are one of the best teams in MLB and the White Sox are under .500 playing in a weak division. So, even if you think the Mariners and Yankees are about even the Padres have an edge in group 2. Unless and until the Brewers show some signs of life it doesn’t matter anyway.
  12. The Brewers play 4 against the Cardinals, series against both the Mets and Yankees and a DH against the Giants. if you line up the remaining schedules side by side and cross out the common or similar opponents, the real differences are (1) the Padres series against the Dodgers vs the Brewers series against the Reds and Marlins, and (2) the Padres playing the White Sox and Mariners vs the Brewers playing the Mets and Yankees. The only advantage the Brewers really have is in the first group, and the Padres have a slight edge in the second group. If the Padres just win 3 or 4 against the Dodgers (who may be coasting) it really puts the pressure on the Brewers to start sweeping series against the lesser opponents, something they haven’t been able to do for a long time. This weekend will be interesting.
  13. I know this has been a daily barb, but I think we all know that the reason the Padres remaining SOS is high is almost entirely because of 3 series against the Dodgers. One of those series is this weekend, and if the Brewers don’t gain any ground while playing the DBacks, their already plummeting playoff chances (now about 33% on both 538 and Fangraphs) are going to drop significantly more. It’s hard to know how the Dodgers will be approaching the later series because they will probably have the #1 playoff seed sewed up. They may coast in like the Brewers did last year, giving regulars more days off and not pushing the pitchers too hard.
  14. I don’t know if there is a specific time requirement but I have seen that they have to be submitted to the league and processed before they are posted for the players or released to the press. That usually happens 2-3 hours before game time.
  15. Maybe posters who are offended by too much complaining should start an alternate game thread where only positive comments about the Brewers are allowed.
  16. Late start. Brewers fall behind in first inning and never even mount a scoring threat, People tune out and go to bed. Not hard to figure out why there isn’t much activity on the game thread. What’s your suggestion to the mods?
  17. Not the outing the Brewers needed from one of their aces. Inefficient and ineffective. The good news is that it looks like I won’t have to stay up too late.
  18. Hope it will be like 18 and 19, not 17, 20 and 21.
  19. The DBacks have been scoring pretty well lately so I wouldn’t assume that the games will be low scoring. Before getting annihilated 18-2 by the Phillies last night they had won 5 in a row, a road sweep over the White Sox and the first 2 of their series against the Phils. They scored 45 runs in those 5 games, including a 13-7 win over the Phillies after they fell behind 7-0.
  20. Hader picked up a save as the Padres completed a sweep of the Giants. Gave up a bloop single and a WP that the catcher should have stopped but retired the next 3 hitters on a K and two easy fly outs.
  21. Nice to close it out with no drama. A rare “easy” win: no save needed and no walk off.
  22. Really burning up the bullpen trying scrape out wins against the Pirates. Win or lose, the bullpen is not going to be in great shape heading into a 4 game series against a DBack team that is hot and scoring a ton of runs. They have caught the Giants in the standings.
  23. I take them gladly but they aren’t exactly exhibits for good offense.
