  1. With Cain and Garcia out and Shaw and JBJ in the chances of the Brewers scoring again today just went from slim to slimmer. And Hiura in LF certainly doesn’t help the defense. Seems like there should have been some way to keep Garcia in, even if it meant putting Suter in Hiura’s spot. I think Suter is capable of striking out.
  2. Richards was warming up prior to the Adames HR. Warming up to throw BP apparently. If this team is going to contend for a playoff spot Stearns is going to have to do some work on the bullpen.
  3. After he smoked those foul balls I was hoping for a walk. That could be the game winner. No matter how good or bad a team might be otherwise, if they can score a run they have a good chance to win against the Brewers.
  4. You have to hold your breath every time Urias makes a throw, even when the slowest runners in MLB are chugging down the line dragging a piano.
  5. That’s probably what the Yankees said going into Detroit. The Brewers performance so far against lesser teams like the Twins, Royals, Pirates, Phillies, and Marlins has not been great.
  6. I assume Hiura would be even madder if his BA was lower than Woodruff’s ERA. What he should be more embarrassed about is that his BA is even lower than JBJ, who at least contributes in the field.
  7. Let’s just say that I feel more comfortable with Hader coming in with a 3 run cushion than bringing in a lesser pitcher who has to face at least 3 batters with a 4 run lead. If the lesser pitcher can’t get anyone out like Perdomo the other day, you end up bringing in Hader with much less of a cushion, in that case against a powerful offense. And not using your best arm has a lot less value when he hasn’t pitched in 3 days, and the team only has two more games before an off day. I strike the balance in favor of going for the win when you have a good chance instead of saving the ace reliever for a future chance that might not be coming for several days. As it works out Hader was able to finish this one up without having to deal with the stress of facing the tying run. Perfect. And he should be ready to go tomorrow if the opportunity presents itself. Hope that explains my thinking. If you disagree with it fine.
  8. I hope the Brewers don’t score again unless they push the lead up to 5 or 6. I don’t want Counsell to be tempted to bring in Richards and then end up having Hader come in with the tying run at the plate already
  9. It’s almost identical. It was 3-1 going into the last of the 8th and it was Woodruff vs Scherzer with HRs accounting for all of the runs. Woodruff only went 4 innings and Scherzer 5. Then Hader just couldn’t get that third out in the 8th.
  10. I always hate seeing it rain in the late innings when the Brewers have a small lead. There’s the risk of a pitcher having trouble controlling a wet ball and funky things happening in the field. Grounders to SS could really be a challenge; it’s bad enough in perfect conditions.
  11. Not a lot of options. Williams has pitched 3 of the last 4 days and he has worked hard in all of them.
  12. I don’t see Woodruff finishing the 7th unless it’s a quick 1-2-3 inning. I wouldn’t think Counsell would want him going over 110 pitches.
  13. Woodruff may be nearing the end of the line. His command seems to have left him suddenly. He’s been helped by some generous strike calls.
  14. Sometimes you see a pitching matchup and figure runs are going to be hard to come by, and then a slugfest breaks out. Today is not looking like one of those days.
  15. Here’s where Counsell can get himself in trouble by being a slave to the save stat. Now that a reliever has to face 3 batters, if Yardley pulls a Perdomo and doesn’t retire a batter, Hader might be coming in with the tying run already at the plate. I understand why he does this because the team has to be able to win some games without needing Hader to finish. But you hate to see an opponent get back into the game by picking on a bottom of the barrel reliever like the Padres did on Monday.
  16. I would love it. The games are more entertaining. I'm sure the guys would love the extra days off over the grueling season too. The players would love it until they were reminded that they would have to take a cut in pay for the loss of gates.
