  1. Woodruff is the latest example that highlights that when the Brewers tell you that a player (especially a pitcher will be out X weeks you should figure that it will really be at least X +2 or 3.
  2. BTW, I know I’m a little late to the thread but, while I’m ambivalent about the players weekend and the silly nicknames, I hate these black and white uniforms. The best move for the players weekend is the Pirates pitcher who has league permission to have his glove marked to look like the Infinity Gauntlet. If he had all of the Infinity Stones I’d bet that could add a few MPH to his fastball.
  3. Manager should play like the score is 6-0. Forget the no hitter; who really cares about it?
  4. I guess Cain had enough for tonight. A questionable call, but far from the worst you’ll see. However, no point asking to be thrown out.
  5. Yep! The Cubs and Jonathan Lucroy are getting whipped right now, too! Good news and somewhat bad news. The Brewers have burrowed behind so many teams now that day to day scoreboard watching becomes relatively insignificant. To really accomplish anything they need a streak of 7 or more out of 10 and then look to see if they’ve gained on anyone. That has to start soon by winning some series against other playoff contenders. Anything less than 4 wins on this 6 game home stand will be another step backward.
  6. Because this is a Brewers optimism thread I won’t comment on your prediction for the Brewers’ finish. But what’s with the love for the Reds? What makes you think that a team that has drifted below.500 all season, is in 8th place in the wild card race and 7.5 games behind WC2 , and has lost 6 of its last 10, is suddenly going to soar to the 86 or more wins that it will likely take to get a wild card spot. To get to 86 wins they have to finish 26-10; I’m not seeing it.
  7. I see this morning that the game never resumed. Brewers might have stolen one because the way the game was trending, and the way Hader has been, I was not too confident that they could have survived the last two innings. So they gained a game on the Cards and held ground with the Cubs, Nats, Mets, and Phillies. With so many teams in front of them they need a run of 7 or more out of 10 to move up, and it’s hard to see that against the upcoming schedule the way they’ve been playing.
  8. Getting up early to play golf tomorrow. Don’t think I’ll wait up to see if they finish and, if they do, how the Brewers give it away. The way things are going they’ll probably start the game, then it will start pouring again and the Brewers will lose trying to throw a slippery ball around. A walk off walk or wild pitch would be appropriate.
  9. It just occurred to me that there is a real possibility that the Brewers will match last year’s loss total before the end of August. In fact, it’s more likely than not.
  10. Not this year. The Cubs and Cardinals have hot streaks coming too in the form of home games and games against the Brewers. They have a good chance to pass the Brewers but very little chance of getting into the playoffs. For all of Aquino’s heroics they’ve still lost 7 of their last 11.
  11. Ball should have been caught, but the Brewers were likely going down anyway. There is no way this bullpen is going to cover 4 innings against a good hitting team. Looking at the upcoming schedule I will be very surprised if the Brewers are above .500 much longer.
  12. Brewers trudging to their sixth straight loss against the Cubs and Cardinals and falling into a deep hole in both the division and wild card races. They’ve scored a grand total of 11 runs in those 6 games, including 4 in a hopeless 11-4 loss. That negative run differential turns out to be a fair reflection of what this team is about.
  13. Now fifth in the wild card race and sinking.
  14. You question whether he will ever win a World Series? I resigned myself years ago to the fact that the Brewers winning a World Series in my lifetime is much less than a 50 percent proposition. It’s 50 years and counting now and a lot fewer than 50 years left. It’s not like they have anything close to a 1 in 30 chance of winning in any given year.
  15. Because that’s often the best pitch to hit?
  16. Great post I feel like 88 is going to be enough for a playoff spot. The Nationals with a 1.5 game wildcard lead would need to go 23-16 to get to 90. While it's possible, the NL did not soften at the deadline and there won't be many cheap wins out there. I think so many teams being involved in the wildcard is going to keep any team from running away with it. And the division is of course still in play as well. I have always considered 90 wins to be the target for making the playoffs, and Inthink the Brewers chances of getting there are next to zero. But, the way things have been playing out it is looking like this might be one of those years where 86-88 wins could be good enough. But, as noted above, for the Brewers to get to even 86 wins, they have to start winning some series IMMEDIATELY. Their recent performance against NL playoff contenders (2-4 against the Cubs and 1-2 against the Nats) has moved them down, and they’re going to be putting themselves in a big hole if they don’t go at least 8-10 in the next 18 games, 16 of which are against NL contenders. They’re going to have to pitch and hit better than they have been to get even 8 wins. It starts tonight.

  18. And they lost 2-1 Friday and 1-0 Sunday. Hitting and pitching are both problems for a team trying to stay in playoff contention.
